  • The EV9 boasts dimensions that make it ideal for leisurely open-road cruising on paved surfaces and well-maintained dirt tracks. However, when you drive a large vehicle, the turning circle increases, posing challenges when navigating highly technical off-road routes. Additionally, the ground clearance is somewhat limited, which could impact its performance in certain off-road scenarios.
Despite these considerations, the EV9 shines in sand mode, where its drive mode excels, demonstrating commendable performance and handling. This feature enhances the vehicle's capability in sandy terrains, adding to its versatility for a variety of driving conditions.
Just don't take it too far!
The Kia EV9 comes with three different Terrain Modes. Depending on the road conditions, when the driver selects the appropriate mode, the system detects four laps of slip and then optimizes driving and braking power. Depending on the active mode, Terrain Mode Select regulates the torque and transmits the power per wheel selectively. The Traction Control System (TCS) reacts to spinning wheels with braking interventions.
In this video, the Sand Mode differentiates torque control and driving force distribution to avoid
the risk of the vehicle getting bogged down
While Starting, it uses 70% or less of the driving force at 10km/h or less and gently transmits the torque of the motors to the four wheels to prevent it from spinning
While driving Driving, the mode maximizes driving force and minimizes braking control at 10km/h or higher to prevent the car from stopping due to sand resistance.
    There is no "lock" mode.
Test model: Kia EV9 AWD with GT-Line Package 2024 Ocean Blue Gloss $94,758.37 / $1,875.88 per month, over 60 months at 6.99% interest for a total of $112,552.80. USD Kia Ev9 Light RWD: 54,900$ MSRP / GT-Line AWD : 73,900$ MSRP

Traction looks great but it is really struggling with clearance.

It was a big mistake to not have adaptive height suspension. Anyone who off roads this will wind up severely damaging the front dam of the vehicle. It was clearly NOT intended to tackle anything bigger than a speed bump. And it struggles to get through this. My old Jeep Cherokee, which I thought wasn't that great, could handle paths worse than this with little effort.

PS: if you're going to market and build an EV SUV, it's kinda silly to not have AH suspension. A noticeable percentage of the demographics for a vehicle like this would expect it to have that at least as an option.

i really wish they would have given some access to the adjustable ride height on the GT line model. any thoughts on if that could be a software upgrade?

Love the video. Do you have any concerns regarding rubbing on the inside of the wheel arches? I am considering setting up my EV9 which I'll be picking up in a few weeks with a set of Wrangler Duratracs in 255/60-20, which would equal a 32" tire. An extra inch of overall diameter. I reckon it should be fine looking at the car 🤔

Wonder if 2” spacers could be added to suspension- that plus tires would give you 3”. Not too crazy but would look good and provide enough for over landing.

@@ronwinn879 Can't do spacers here in Norway I'm afraid, everything must be TÜV certified. Even if it was I don't want to mess with KIA's 7 year warranty :P

Hmm beautiful vehicle, 7 seater, MUCH better mileage but less ground clearance than a Solterra though, and that over $60k possibly $90k when you upscale to the larger battery replacement cost is scary! Ok the most expensive Ev9 is $79k but it seems Kia/ Hyundai would charge $90k for it.

It's that much only if you let the dealer screw the insurance company and you don't mind to pay more after that. Otherwise, the eGMS platform has a modular battery, quite easy to fix. One module in Ioniq5 costs about 200-300 USD, because it has about 32 of them. And you can replace just one in case of damage, almost any service could do that. No need to scrap the car and recycle the entire pack like t**la and other crap glued battery packs.
