While I can understand why some people find this entry in the series a little underwhelming. I have to say this is one of my favourite entries into the civ series. When I first started playing it seemed "alien" but after I got used to the new looks it opened up as probably the best entries in the series.
It would be awesome if Firaxis made a "humanity's last stand" type of bonus scenario. The alien signal deconded in the Contact victory came from a hostile, supremacist alien race which views humanity as just another race to conquer. Now you and a number of other civilizations have to defend your fully-developed planet, and a warp gate back to Earth, from a 50-turn onslaught of aliens.
THAT would be uber-cool mate.

Supremacy is my favorite affinity, followed by Harmony. Supremacy represents mankind's next stage of evolution, while harmony also represents that, but in a more biological way.
I would say that Purity is like technology coming to people meeting people's needs whereas supremacy is more like people becoming technology. Harmony is like the weird friend who is into green peace and other save the planet stuff idk.
The affinities remind me allot like supreme commander this is how i see it

Gathering Storm has even less future units than Civ5. Only the death robot. Not even a stealth bomber.

Dude, this game rocks, and I love it even more because of this trailer, also this trailer really explains it in detail and it is so much easier to understand, I love this trailer and I love the game.
Civ is a great game and I've pre ordered it, but you need to make a goose bump inducing trailer to attract more people
Idk if there's some sort of intergalactic space congress in this game, but if not there should totally be one in the future of the game. If you ever see this Firaxis or anyone else who agrees with me, there should be a DLC where you can travel and colonize more than one planet. You know like there should be an option for how many planets you want in your game too, this would make for some pretty cool matches in beyond earth. Just imagine it, not just continental wars but planetary wars.
I really hate how all farms and tile improvements look the same no matter what affinity you are. Here I am building an army of terminators and I have fruit farms next to me to feed my ... nothing cause they are all machines.
I mean since we don't have unique units this time like in other civs you would think they would put some extra effort in such things. It really really REALLY kills the atmosphere for me.
You have a point, though I think a supremacy affinity would, in fact, need produce because A) Not everybody's 100% robotic and B) Biofuel is really useful for machines.

Yeah but still it should definitely set itself apart by looks. They don't have unique units for civs they don't have unique buildings for civs the least they could do is make 3 different farms for 3 different affinities

Why is this game selling for $90 on steam in Australia? I mean seriously... it was originally advertised at $45 for the first two days before it basically doubled over night, while the rest of the world kept their lower prices.
I would love to hear a good reason for this.
I am not a member of the Firaxis company and i am not a professional of computer gaming industry in any way. If you'd like to know the answer of a plain, poor, next door gamer, some people can sell you some double priced products, the answer is they just can do it and they do it. I think this is more than a good reason for such activities. The question is what will you do about it?

would using the web interface while using an extension like zenmate to hide your IP location help? though you might have to get a card with a billing address int he US, I wonder if there is any way to get a pre-paid card for this?
This is why you "borrow" the game for the first year or so, until a Steam "sale" brings it down to a price that is in line with the rest of the world. The ridiculous mark up on digital goods is currently being investigated, but until that day, don't throw away your hard earned so that some middle man can get richer. And they wonder why Australia has a reputation of excessive piracy =\ If I could buy a single episode, or the whole series, of GoT WITHOUT signing up to 999+ channels of crap from Foxtel, then I would. Give me a legal way to buy what I want for reasonable prices! Chant with me: Pirate bay until that day!
Finally, all the previous Civ games where too linear and they brought some stuff back from good old Civ games like quests, damn I missed quests on Civ V. Had to install mods to get them back

***** Civ5 had a demo. I personally never buy games I cannot try out before purchase (the official or the unofficial way), Civ franchise being the single exception, so I'm a strong supporter of demo versions. For everyone, not only people who preordered.
Civ5 was the kind of game I tried the unofficial "demo" and I got so into it I had to buy the game straight away.
Need a sequel with at least 3-6 core affinities and countless hybrid XD

My brother just pre-ordered this for me on Steam and I'm so excited, I can't wait to play it! I've always been a fan of the Civilization games since the first one and I never got to the space age because I would beat the game in the modern age. Now I don't have to worry about it because WE ARE IN THE SPACE AGE!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!

I still play this game. I love civ6 and can’t wait for the 2nd expansion Gathering Storm. But!! I also want Civ Beyond Earth 2. Like I hope and it’s wishful thinking but hear me out. In CivBE 2, Earth is still well and has been trying to recover, but the other factions have been advancing and haven’t been heard from them. In this game, a third group of factions have left to colonize another planet. When they arrive there, a few turns later, they meet up not just aliens but also the other 12 factions. Some have change their looks while others still remain true. Now, it’s a test, who will rule over the new brave world.
i love how the people in the comments are hating again, without having any idea how it plays or just making up stuff they don't know about. personally i really like the changes and the setting. i'm looking forward to it.

so i'm happy they are making a game like this but how will the terraforming mechanic work with your city's will they build domes or out side houses? and your troops will wear helmets? and what about the intelligent aliens DLC or are they hiding it from the gamer's ??

civ 5 is simply very poorly code writen game.
i have cpu intel i5 2500 @4900 8gb ram and some radeon no sure 7500 or somting my hd is 8- 12 year old but i have 5

CE:B has three-colored ways,just like ME3. Purity,keeping humanity clean. (Red - Destroy), Superiority,with super-advanced guarding robots (Blue - Control),and Harmony,where you merge the consciousness of aliens and humans (Green - Synthesis).

This year, there was literally no game to look forward to for me, that was until this game was announced. I cant wait! Even though there are a plethora of "next-gen" games that just came out, i could careless. This game pretty much salvage 2014 for me.

Everything changed except the Engine and Hexagon.
To start, you can have diplomacy with the barbarians. Having the best science doesn't win every single game. Units upgrade based on Affinity Points rather than techs. Cities are worthless for several turns. The espionage system has been greatly expanded upon. There are no more worthless social policy trees. Adopting policies in multiple trees isn't a horrible idea and is actually encouraged. AI players come at different times. Scouts also function as archaeologists, but the bonuses they give are varied and useful. You can get game-changing bonuses from the Orbital Layer.
But wait, it's made of hexagons and has the same basic mechanics - mechanics which are confirmed to work? Oh, it's just some shitty reskin.
Seriously, people posting comments like this need to go watch some actual gameplay demos.

I would have liked a non science fiction civ more but thats personal preference.

I do admit that this game is, overall, extremely similar to Civ 5 + DLCs, but the new features have me really excited. Please just don't dick us on expensive DLCs, Firaxis.
I hope they have updated the AI from civ5. i haven't heard anything about AI.
Still looks like a mod for Civ5, and I'd take Civ4 over it any day of the week.
Agree with you, and Civ4 was - and what's amazing - still is great. There aren't many games who could boast of having people still play them 9 years after the release, and having such brilliant mods.

Quite? You mean BARELY. I want my money back you scam artists. You re-skinned CIV 5 and think its worth a full triple A price. Blasphemy. Last time I will be purchasing a Firaxis game. Yeah I play it but its not worth 50 dollars. Maybe 20 as a DLC. But we all know you stripped all the good stuff and saved it for upcoming dlc's you money hungry bastards. How about fixing multiplayer first before selling and promoting it! Or at least providing servers that host games, ya jackals.

Having not played it, I have to say it wouldn't surprise me if you were right and it was as buggy as crap. What bothers me is that this seems like a (failed) spiritual successor of the Alpha Centauri game thrown into the Civ category.

Sounds cool and all but what is a civ game without some type of nuke? Has anyone heard if they confirmed rather or not atomic missiles are in the game? Where's peace without fear?
Going to be frank here: I'm not feeling much joy about this game, and this vid all but reinforces that feeling.
- 1UPT is still in effect, and running off this engine, that means unit clogging and, very likely, the terrible AI from Civ V is coming along with it.
- Given how chopped up Civ V was DLC-wise, and the insistence on Steam regardless of so many players going alone versus playing together (See also: Civ V's MP versus Civ IV's), I'm willing to wager this will follow the same route.
- Affinities are a shallow idea in comparison to Alpha Centauri's Social Engineering, or even Civ IV's Civics system.
- The Victory Conditions, and Pre-Planetfall set-up, don't give the same crushing isolationist feel as in Alpha Centauri.
- The style and aesthetics of the game seem cartoon-like, and that doesn't help the mood of the game either.
At the end of the day, it will still be fun, am I right?

Chibi1986 you simply can't say the game is more frustrating than fun, when you haven't played it.
You can say the ai will be bad and stuff like that, and ideologies VS affinities VS social engenering and stuff is besides the point, different games different systems, thats a good thing.
You can compare it to alpha centari, but that's a matter of nonstalgia and preference.
The looks also preference.
Maybe your preference is alpha centari and different graphics, but that dosent mean the game will be leas fun, because of how it looks. Alpha centari is old, and has worse graphics than this because of its age, so you see, graphics aren't every thing.
Maybe this is a little confusing, so I'll leave you with this.
It will be a fun game, frustrating is for playing Victoria 2 or crusader kings 2, not civilization.

How about looking at the comparisons I can make, and will be making, between Civ V and BE, since they use the same engines, and between AC and BE since, let's face it, they are related projects and have similar ideas in every respect.
Or do I have to point out how AC's name is still owned by EA?
