    My ex-mom joined a cult when I was 13yrs. Old & I had to join the military to get away. I suffered every kind of abuse & there were so many child molesters. I'm still trying to recover at 42yrs old. I'm 100% disabled with Complex PTSD & I had to walk away from my whole family but I just knew this wasn't God. The good news is, After I left, most of the other kids followed & my doctor & I report them every year.

    In 2011 my mother forced me into a cult with her when I was 14 in Texas. When I told her that I wanted to visit my brother in California for his High school graduation- the cult leader and my mother took me to an airport and abandoned me. Sadly, I lost my mom to this cult, but I’m so grateful they abandoned me because I got my life back

If these things are stripped away from them, they can turn into monsters if not worse... which is scary, once they’re no longer have these things, the horrible things they can do is unlimited and nothing can stop them from going to low and causing pain to other because the things that made them humans are no longer a part of them...

      It makes sense because all of his followers came from the church, so they were indoctrinated to believe rediculous things from the time they could understand words 😭 most religions teach that women are lesser to men so that wasn't an instant red flag when he was making the first recruits for his cult, also most religions teach that women should suffer for literally everything, it's super unfortunate that these crazy ideas are only being presented in a new way but these cult followers were already brainwashed long ago from the cult they were born into 😢

    Hi ! French Canadian here ! Moise Roch Thériault terrorized Quebec for years. My father's cousins had terrible mutilation and amputation there. One of them died in terrible pain. Its very tabou in my family because of the trauma he caused. But I can still feel my family's trauma, the powerless they had to save the girls, the sadness when its their commemoration day. Those who survived now lives in mental health facility others are totally disable with very complex PTSD and substance abuse. Its so hard to witness a multiple generation trauma in my own family. The Ant Hill Kid's cult leader's name was:
      Roch Thériault
      The good news is that Roch Thériault died in prison because on February 26, 2011, at age 63, Thériault was found dead near his cell at Dorchester Penitentiary. His death is believed to be the result of an altercation with his cellmate, Matthew Gerrard MacDonald, a 60-year-old convicted murderer from Port au Port, Newfoundland and Labrador, who was charged with the killing. MacDonald pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison, having already been serving a life sentence for a previous murder charge.
      Matthew Gerrard MacDonald had stabbed Thériault in the neck with a shiv, walked to the guards' station, handed them the weapon, and proclaimed:
      "That piece of shit is down on the range. Here's the knife, I've sliced him up."

      I don’t like kids, I find them annoying and gross. But I would risk my life to save a child. If I see a kid crying or lost, I have to make sure they’re okay and help them.
      I think the adults who let this happen to their children are equally culpable. They were open to this kind of disgusting activity regardless of brainwashing, because the natural instinct of wanting to protect your child is in all of us who aren’t p*dos

    As an indigenous "Canadian" that's in Quebec and was born in Montreal, thank you for talking about this. We almost never have "big name" serial killers if you will for lack of a better word, but when it does happen, it tends to be actual hell. My oldest sister was actually a member of the jury for the trial of Luka Magnotta and it scarred her. And that's not even getting into the fact that my mom unknowingly dated a serial killer - William Fyfe - when she was like 18 or 19 and she had ZERO idea and she only found out the year I was born and apparently he's still in prison. It was WILD.

    I come from the same region as Gabrielle Lavallée and back when I was in high school she would come each year to give a speech about her experience in the cult, how she was manipulated by Roch and how she managed to survive during and even after the cult. She also wrote a book called "L'alliance de la Brebis" (litteraly The convenant of the Sheep) that describe her experience in very gruesome details. When I met her I was really impressed by the strong and confident energy she gave off, and how she ended turning her life around to raise awareness on manipulation and how everyone could be a victim.

    There was a creepypasta written about this and I found it very disturbing as a "scary story". What I found most disturbing was googling it and finding out everything was true. This is so incredibly horrific and heartbreaking on such a deep level. On a different topic, the person who gave birth to me absolutely hated children and when I was 12 she said "the great spirit told her her contract for being my mother was up". She had been a horrible mother so her leaving was genuinely a dream come true. I know she's a cult leader somewhere in the woods near Santa Cruz. When I was growing up her beliefs were absolutely insane and got more and more unhinged the older I got. I'm now in my 30s and it's genuinely terrifying knowing she has followers. Sometimes I wonder just how bad her beliefs are now.

Does that sound like someone even remotely sane to you? Do you actually think they had the mental capacity to think "well raping, torturing, disfiguring, killing me is ok but not with children!"? Of course they didnt. They were in a completely different reality. Coming back to real life and realizing what they let happen to the children AND themselves is punishment enough. They do not have the capacity to think for themselves or their children. The children deserve to get the care they needed/need, they deserve deep therapy from someone who is warm and caring. The parents deserve therapy, a lot of it, and time in a psych ward to help recover and heal. The parents are as much as victims as the others. The leader, and leaders deserve jail time, those who know what’s going on is wrong. But those who are deeply brainwashed and being controlled by the leader, don’t know what’s happening is wrong, they don’t see it as an issue, but it’s been drilled into their heads that it’s normal and okay.

      I agree with you.
      BTW the Ant Hill Kid's cult leader's name was:

    I find it horrifically disgusting that Francine would keep throwing her kids back into the lions den like that. She could visibly see the neglect and consequences of abuse on her sons the moment they came back and dealing with that was so annoying for her she’d rather let them keep being abused and neglected. She was free. She wasn’t stuck in the middle of the bullshit anymore. She could have, SHOULD have, protected those boys. Kept them away from their father. It’s insane that the direct correlation between her childrens declining physical well being and poor behavior after having just come back from spending time with their dad wasn’t enough of an immediate red flag to never send them back the first time. ESPECIALLY after he borderline kidnapped them once to live with his sex cult. To be so irresponsible and cruel is a level of heartlessness I hope to never ever achieve in any life I live. I don’t have enough poignant words to describe how truly pathetically disgusting I find it.
    Edited to say in no way am I saying she is somehow worse than Rock. Hearing what he’s capable of makes me sick thinking someone not trapped under his abuse would willingly send their children to live permanently with this kind of person. But not more sick than what Rock did in total. That speaks for itself.

      @@yourancientblogs did you actually read everything I wrote? Because I clearly stated that I was in no way saying what Francine did was worse than anything Rock did. At all. That being the case, sending your kids to live permanently with the person who’s not feeding them and actively abusing them is not a “mistake”. Such a little word does not get to be used on something like that. It’s not a flippant thing that held no real meaning, it forever changed two innocent peoples lives because she didn’t want to deal with it. That’s WRONG regardless of what you’ve been through. Having been abused by Rock at one point doesn’t absolve that. If she’d been actively under his abuse with no way to protect herself like the women in the cult it would be a different story. She had choices, resources, and could have had support if she’d gone through the proper channels. Instead she chose to wash her hands of the “problem” which meant leaving her young children to be tormented and tortured until they were old enough to save themselves. Again, what Rock did will always and forever be incomprehensibly worse than anything Francine every could do. That doesn’t make it right either. You can cognitively understand one is way worse without shortchanging the other.
      Edited to say I didn’t feel it necessary to drone on and on about how terrible Rock was first A. Because Steph and Mr. MangoButt talked in depth about how truly disgusting this guy is, B. Every other comment touches on exactly how disgusting and evil this man is and C. I shouldn’t have to say it at all it should be expressly clear that this guy is a sick, deranged, monstrous individual that should have been put down long before his dna desecrated the gene pool.

      @@corinnewolfe963 I agree with you, but want to add something still.
      I don't know how severe the signs where. Nowadays most (but still not all) know more about how a childs change in behaviour can be a huge warning sign for abuse, but that wasn't always the case.
      Interestingly enough, often kids even make it look like they had a good time and like the other (abusive) parent a lot. Now, if the parent isn't aware and probably can't imagine, they'll send them back.
      I know this first hand and wouldn't blame my mum (she would blame herself, but what for).
      The woman here was super young still, alone with two very complicated (because of the abuse) children (that probably parroted the father, which made it seem more like they want to be with him, but that's speculative) and although she knew her ex-husband was a dick, she probably didn't know how absolutely batshit he was. And so, decisions like that can happen.
      You highly underestimate the issue, don't recognise the warning signs as such, are overwhelmed with the situation and so young, you desperately just want to live, too young to understand.
      And then there's a seemingly easy solution.
      I'm absolutely NOT defending her actions, or saying that she definitely didn't know!!!
      I'm just adding that stuff like that COULD have played a role.

    • @corinnewolfe963
      @corinnewolfe963 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@lethfuil I see what you’re saying and agree to a certain extent. I can understand being young, overwhelmed, and unequipped. I can also understand the parroting aspect. Given that Francine left Rock because of how he treated her and the things he said, I can imagine it would be extremely difficult to hear your two young sons spewing the disgusting rhetoric of their father. Triggering even. I can understand not knowing the nuances in the change of behavior due to that being a more recently explored topic in society. We were also only given a brief description of the condition the boys were returned home in. On top of that Francine, as well as the rest of the world, wouldn’t know the extent of Rocks abuse until much much later. With all of that being said, a few things still ring true for me. While Francine didn’t know how badly her kids were being treated outside of her care, we do. We know how Rock treated the kids staying with the cult. Even the ones he liked. Knowing that, I find it extremely hard to believe the boys didn’t have far too many bruises and marks to be explained away as “boys being boys” and playing too rough amongst themselves. We also know they were malnourished by this point as well. Outside of the behavioral aspect, Francine had to have been able to see that something was wrong. Not as a mother, not as a woman, but as a person with empathy and eyes. I know you aren’t defending her, and I’m not saying you are. That’s just where I get hung up. The cognitive dissonance she had to have had to see the signs and still push them away is staggering. The only thing I will say in her defense is her relationship with Rock was tumultuous and traumatic at best. To heal from that while also healing the active trauma her kids were going through was probably not something she had the facilities for. While trauma can be a monster that makes you make decisions you never would have anticipated, that doesn’t make those decisions any less wrong. She may have thought she was doing something for the greater good but it ended up serving no one.
      As an aside I want to say 2 things, A. I appreciate your input and the lived experience you have that adds nuance to the conversation and I want to thank you for sharing it, and B. I love your podcast but almost every case I have to stop and google the year to know where we are at in history when it occurred. I paused your video to type this comment. He may not have had it easy before that. Lots of times convicts torture people like him for a while before they are killed. Manson was lit on fire, Folgal gets beaten, and I think Nassar has been either stabbed or periodically beaten.

    This is the most horrible, disgusting, torturing case I've ever heard of. Thank you Stephanie. I am really shock how these women allowed him to do all that...and he is not even handsome...i mean there are guys more handsome out there.

    I’ve never had a case that I haven’t been able to watch, assess and digest over time but later on I genuinely gagged. The fact that there were people who survived their injuries makes my heart absolutely break. Those children deserved a life MILLIONS of times better and I hope they’re able to live wonderful lives.

    "Happiness is not out there, you have to find it in yourself and everything is already given to you to fulfill yourself.
    There's always a bit of Hope in the darkness and we have to hope for that to get out of the darkness.
    Because there is always light at the end of the tunnel of our human misery always never give up never never never give up."

      @@spv9086 people who dont have a choice or dont know any better.
      Its easy to say all that quote when you got a decent life or supporting family.
      What about all those North Koreans for example?

    • @spv9086
      @spv9086 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh! Yes totaly I agree with you. When you have no say in your life and dont know anny better, its hard to hope for better things to come, to be happy or to be able to change your life. And sometimes you can do nothing in your life and hoping dose nothing. And you are right. This dosent apply people who dont have a choice or dont know any better.
      The person saying this quote is privileged. But they are learning how to deal with there life. We all can be ungrateful and not thoughtful of how privileged we are. Even me.
      Life is hard and you are randomly put in a stituations in life. However I think we are here to suffer and learn. We are all going to have to deal with hard thing. So we should try are best to deal with them over and over. And maby grow Discipline from it.
      However I do understand that some people don't have control of there own life. And things do happen, that is just life. It's not equall or fair to everyone one. If it was life(the world) would be to perfect, there would be somthing missing. And what is a perfect world?

    • @spv9086
      @spv9086 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Not everyone has the privilege to be able to change there life, to find happiness.
      When you are privileged you take this for granted. I do it. What you said is a good reminder that I am privileged for what I have. And that I should be more grateful for what I have. Thank you for reminding me of that.

    You do this story alot of justice . You do all your stories justice ive seen since i discovered this channel. The details and scenerios youve committed to memory would take a mental toll on any decent person. Thanks for giving these stories the compassion they deserve so that these things dont happen or at the very least we know they do happen and need to watch out for it. The depths of depraved evilness that some people amount to is beyond imagination sometimes.

    I have heard of the anthill kids... I knew how HORRIBLE it was for the victims, but holy shit Stephanie you went much further in detail.. this is by far the worst case you have ever covered. Danielle Kristy covered it very well too! She covers very gruesome cases as well and delivered this case wonderfully, but I believe since you read that book you had a whole other side of this story. How were you able to finish that book?? I would have nightmares. I feel for that poor government worker who offed herself largely due to this case...

    I feel like some people use religion as a form of manipulation without understanding the meaning of it. Also for their own greed. These women were indoctrinated to believe in something that was created not only to harm them but also their children . The innocence in these children. This is traumatic and they were too exposed to this setting because of their parents choices

      Yes, but the truth of it is almost most religions started off as a means of manipulation. No matter how much people try to change the meaning, it always was meant to be a means of manipulation.

    • @embadly
      @embadly ปีที่แล้ว +5

      it 100% is used as a form of manipulation of weak or those needing guidance or lost people. people who are scared & go to faith for some sort of protection almost because it’s all mostly derived from fear. the fear of death or fear of “not being/doing enough” in life. people who are scared of death and need to feel better about it so they fall into this…..belief….that if they follow these rules/doctrines/systems, they i’ll be ok in the “afterlife” so they’re not as scared or full of fear in life.
      and in my opinion, that fear drives people into doing whatever they need to to NOT live in that fear. and unfortunately, these people ARE easy to manipulate & often are.
      then there are those who take advantage of those easily manipulated because their “faith” “told them to/so”. it’s a vicious cycle that people get stuck in BC of that fear.
      tbh i sound like some wannabe cult leader with my ramblings here, i know. but
