    Currently on a hiatus from racing/riding because I couldn't afford good gear (broke college student) and it costed me an emergency room trip from a simple low side at Tally.

    Held got special long and short sizes for the Phantom 2. So you could just try a L-10. It's a 10 for longer fingers. (At least for the Black Phantom 2 in germany)

      When your gloves cost as much as 4 pairs of gloves they don't get any attention.
      Even though their quality is similar the price is just so ridiculous they don't deserve any mention.
      It's an insult to consumers.

      They are a great set of gloves for sure. End of the day we did this to showcase the differences between the gloves to help riders find the one that best suits their needs. Even though the Heroic are not my 1st pick I know for a fact there are a ton of riders that want a glove that offers more longevity and protection than the rest. - Van

    Personal experience - Always try the gloves on with your leathers. I'm quite muscular so have to buy bigger suits, but I'm not that tall so end up with a little excess sleeve and ankle length. I bought a pair in the shop, felt great, tried them with my suit and no longer fitted well as the cuff pushed the glove forward and created too much excess room in the finger tips.

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would suggest having the sleeve of the suit altered. We did this for my Son Max on the ankles of his Astars Missile Suits. I trimmed off approximately 2 inches from the bottom of the legs to reduce the bulk in the ankle area for him. - Van

    Best ones i ever bought are an RST Pro, bought them in 2010 and they are still in good working condition. Paint stars to come off, they look like used work gloves, but no torn seams. And they were far from expensive, IIRC something around 55Eur back then.

    Just a note about the Astars Gloves. It took me about 2 Weeks to initially break-in just about any Astars guanlets. I'm talking about daily riding to and from work.
    After two weeks my hands used to be mildly sore after 15-30 minutes on the bike. It look more like 2 hours. After riding in them for a Month they had fully formed to my hand. I Could ride all day no time limit and effort to put them on was easy. Taking them off was just a bit of effort but not obnoxious unless it was a super hot day. Hope this helps.

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Having the opportunity to ride in all of these gloves at the same time I feel the most important thing is how the gloves feel out of the bag. IMO they need to be pretty much good to go on the first ride, this pretty much guarantees you will get the fit you want out of them. The less they have to stretch the better as it puts less stress on the leather and the stitching.
      I have ridden in more pairs of gloves than I can accurately recall at this point. This is the first time I have ridden in 11 pair at the same time, I learned a lot doing this. - Van

    Wow! Great Video Bryan. Wish I'd have known about the finger length factor before I opted for the XL instead of XXL Alpinestars that I got on Sale last Winter. Back then I figured the worst thing I could do was go w the XXL since the XXL's fit pretty sloppy in the fingertips to begin with & therfore lacked feel, so I figured they'd only get worse over time and went a size down. I assumed that with some regular use I'd wear them in & they'd stretch out enough to ultimately fit me fine...I was def wrong!
    I wanted track-worthy gloves, came across a great off-season deal & assumed that since they were A-Stars, I couldn't go wrong. Too bad I didn't see this video beforehand, I'd have known to swap brands instead of ending up with a $200 bargain that I rarely use vs. my less than ideal, but far more comfortable $60 go-to pair from amazon...
    That said, just wanted to let you know that you're content provides a tremendous amount of value to the MC / Sportbike community! It's very much appreciated. I especially liked your most recent series on the best helmets for different price-points. Great product category + fit & features vs. price breakdowns. You're videos keep getting better & better!
    You're content has earned my business, but unfortunately your AGV inventory has been preventing me from being able to actually buy my helmet from you recently... No worries though, just keep up the great work! and I'll make sure STG is my 1st stop for MC gear & accys in the future. Thank you

    When I rode MX we would sometimes take new boots into the bath or soak in hot water to accelerate break in.
    Have you heard of that in the street world? Boots and gloves, maybe a race suit or other leathers?
    My main concern would be that with MX, it's expected that the boots will get muddy/soaked. Not sure if street/race gloves have materials which might degrade.

    Just bougth a pair of Five RFX race to replace my RFX1.
    The RFX1 was so great feel and flexible. I had a lowside so I have suprised my self with an upgrade, "the RACE must be even better". Same size RFX race feels so stiff. The size perfect, but not as flexible. I can't remember what was the rfx1 like when I got it maybe it was the same can't remeber😅.
    Will it ease up a lot?
    I still have the tags on. Shall I start to brake it in with some water or is that waste of time as the internal kevlar will not loosen up?
    Also my mate told me my new gloves stiffer as they are white (the old one is black) and to get the white result the chemicals and white paint makes the leather more rigid then the black😅. Is that BS?
    If I can brake in the Race to the level of the RFX1 I would love to keep it, but don't wanna ruin an expensive pair of gloves with a bucket of water.
    Help me out on this, please. 😊
    Thanks!

    Late comment here but can you tell me which of these gloves are using kevlar/aramid thread for the stitching? Last crash was ~70mph in a pair of Scorpion SG3 MKII gloves and all of the finger stitching just fell apart and I am lucky I didnt lose skin. Most comfortable gloves I have owned but super scary when I found out they wont hold up in a crash.

    This year's shootout didn't have an ultimate protection glove like last year's Knox Handroid. I guess this year was a little underwhelming for me since I gravitate towards maximum protection and a glove without hard palm sliders on both areas of the palm is just a deal breaker for me. I can pray for Knox to return to what they are good at but I don't think that will be anytime soon. I just hope a company will one day come out with a fully armoured gloves with enough dexterity to not hinder the rider.

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Out of the gloves included in this shootout I would give the Ultimate Protection tag to the Heroic SPR Pro Gloves. They use a full kangaroo chassis (a little thicker than the other brands) with double stitching and a ton of stingray hide. Using the stingray in place of plastic sliders you get the same effect with the added bonus of not transferring as much energy from an impact as the plastic will. As with the Handroid you do sacrifice a little feel and dexterity for the added protection. I would also say the Heroic gloves will last the longest of the bunch. - Van

    • @zoomjoo

      I tried on both the heroic and the handroid, and bought the heroic. It feels like a much more durable glove and handroid exoskeleton does feel a bit flimsy when you see it. No regrets on my purchase, I’m never going to be the quickest guy out there anyway so I want maximum safety and the heroics are great for that.

      I have not done any real street riding in years my man. The pressure will be different from tire to tire. I would do a search for the specific tire you plan to ride on and run that. We offer some of the Revit products but have not put a lot of effort into updates as our customers have never shown much interest in them over the years. In your case the best way to get a good fitting pair of gloves will be to go to a shop and try on several pair. We have a ton of gloves here in stock but like other dealers our showroom is currently closed due to the Coronapocolypse. When this passes you need to go to a shop. - Van

    What are your finger length measurements? My Astars GP Plus and GPX gloves are XL and the fingers are too long

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In many of the Astars gloves I will be a 3XL so comparing finger length won't do much. I have worn both of those gloves in the past and found the finger length to be right where it needs to be. Over the last few years we have seen the glove sizing from most of the big brands to get closer to each other. There is still some variance in fit from brand to brand but it is not as much as we had seen in the past. Of all the gloves in this video both Jimmy and I felt the Held Titan had the shortest fingers, followed by the Held Phantom 2. With that said the difference was around 1/4" ish.
      The first thing I would do in your case is take a good measurement and use the size chart for the gloves you have to see if you are in the size they would recommend for you and work from there. We are turning on a pretty cool glove sizing video later today that will help IMO. - Van

    • @TrackSol
      @TrackSol 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sportbike Track Gear Thanks for the detailed response. My problem is I have wide palms and short fingers so every glove that fits me has fingers about 1/2" to 3/4" too long. This really sucks with street gloves with touchscreen enabled tips. For sport riding, I guess having gloves with too long fingers is better than too short.

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure having the fingers too long is better than having them too short. Most of the gloves are built using a very similar pattern which means it will be tough to find a pair with short fingers and wide palms. - Van

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No we no longer offer Knox Handroids. They are a good glove, only issue is they require more break in than most other gloves out there. Several of the gloves we have included offer a very similar level of protection (with the exception of the exo-skeleton on the back of the Handroid which reduces feel while increasing protection), require less break in and many will offer more feel in the end. - Van

    • @PSCadu
      @PSCadu 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sportbiketrackgear Ok. Well to be honnest I own 1st and 2nd Gen of the Knox Handroid and I use them on my day to day routine so both of them had a quick break in...I would guess if you mainly use them for trackdays it would take you longer to break them in if you only do trackdays once in a while...but that's not even an issue per sei. Have to disagree on your statement about the exo-skeleton... why you would you stablish a connection with reduction in feel...feel is about palms and fingers (which is great)...I've done several trackdays over these last years and there's no issues about feel...in my opinion! Thanks for the great review on this shootout it was great to get to know gloves that I didn't even knew existed. :)

    • @sportbiketrackgear

      We learned a lot having the opportunity to try all of these gloves at the same time. Over the years I have ridden in a ton of different gloves, always one set at a time for the most part. I have ridden in all of the versions of the Handroid and like the gloves, for me the break took a lot of effort. At one point we were the US distributor for Knox so we have sold hundreds of Handroids (maybe in the 1000's) overall the feedback was good, most common complaint was the break in.
      Important to remember we all shaped a little differently with our own likes and dislikes so we may not choose the same glove or have the same experience with the same model. A great example of that is Jimmy and I only ranked one glove in the same spot.
      You are welcome and thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback! - Brian Van

Having ridden in the Handroids many times I have grown to prefer gloves that break in a little easier now.
