    I would have found more value in some kind of test. Taking them apart will show you that the knockoff is inferior, but it doesn't tell you how it would hold up on the typical low side slide. I don't think the majority of crashes happen at a higher speed, so I'd be curious at the point of failure on the knock offs.

      Hi Tommy,
      Thanks for chiming in, that is definitely a good idea.... a little destructive testing never hurts. Well... maybe sometimes.

      I saw an article that did a study on knockoff yamaha riding pants by the BBC I believe. The yamaha pants were rated to slide for 3 seconds after testing. Ece standards are 5+. Don't quote me on the standards. I skimmed the article but u get the idea. Inferior material and craftsmanship that's not up to modern safety standards. Going down sucks pretty bad even in real gear. That extra 2 seconds for some extra cash sounds pretty alright to me at this point lol.

      I would assume just by the fact that cheaper gloves already exist from good companies that are making them less protective to fit a price point would already tell you that the cheaper one isn't going to be as good. You would be able to compare it to a glove that is build with similar material. Which would mean in some cases it would still work street riding but not for street riding since fake leather doesn't offer good protection at high speeds.

If I wouldn't have seen this video I proby would have bought a cheap pair thinking it would save my ass like the real ones. Definitely what I was looking for and worth every dime opening them up, much thanks stay healthy!

    I always get comments on my Sidi Vortice boots when I ride, on how they look like ski boots and make a lot of noise when I walk. People sometimes ask how much they go for, They are $495. I get a lot of odd looks, I just reply with the well $495 is an investment, if I don't wear them and I crash the chances of a broken leg is way higher with out the boots and hospital bills will be many times more than the boots cost. Hell the ambulance ride will be two to three times more then the boots cost. Wear your gear fellas, 5 extra minutes is worth saving your self road rash, broken bones or possible paralysis.

    • @bikebandit
      @bikebandit  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +xavier415
      Hey X415,
      I too have a couple pairs of Vortices, and yup I've crashed in them. Walked away without a scratch. Are they a bit squeaky? Yup. That's a small price to pay for articulating ankles armatures. Try a little bit a silicone spray (Armor-All) on a Q-tip, and apply that to where the plastic pieces rub over each other. We find that helps. Knowing that you're wearing the finest product, from a company that doesn't make anything but footwear, has been doing it since the 1960's, and what the fastest guys on the planet wear...well that's just nothing reassurance. Why do they look like ski boots? Dino Signori (flip the firs two letters of each word to see where the company got their name) is the founder of Sidi. He is the inventor of the rear-entry ski boot. So there you have it!

    I get the point you're making but for people who can't afford the extortionate prices of top A* gear this basically demonstrates that for the price the $60 gloves are not too bad. Any gloves better than no gloves

    • @bikebandit
      @bikebandit  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hey AT,
      First things first, thanks for watching our videos and the comment. Now, as far as ever riding with no gloves, that's just dumb. The way we're wired, we put our hands out when we fall, be it over the cat, on the garden hose, or off a motorcycle. Our problem with the fraud gloves, is that they're profiting by taking advantage of you, the consumer who's thinking that they're going to be protected in a crash scenario, and they're doing it with inferior materials. Just for giggles, I went to the Ali Xpress and typed in Alpinestars GP Pro. Not even $40. This is a glove that retails for $240. Anyone who thinks that they're getting a current genuine leather glove for almost %85 off is just naive. Anyways, ride safe, see good gear as an investment, and have fun. Subscribe if you haven't, OK. BB.com!

    • @Osprey1994
      @Osprey1994 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can't afford the GP pro's get the GPX's they are a mid cuff design at 130 dollars they offer great street protection or for $100 you can get what I picked up about a week ago the SPX Air carbon ignore the crappy reviews about the mesh fingers they only get stuck to the velcro if you aren't careful with where you grab with your thumb. If you don't think you need the extra airflow or aren't buying in a store like I was then buy the Alpinestar Celer gloves for 100 don't know if they flow air as well and the protection on the palm and ulna area isn't as good as the SPX Air carbons but they are still a great choice for the money. There's also Icon hypersports for 135, Held Sambias for 120 and after doing a lot of looking those are the gloves that are on my list for the next few years of riding if I need to replace a pair I will get another off the list. Gloves are very important and you can start out cheap if you are a beginner rider and you are playing it super safe but after 2 weeks I felt like as I pushed my boundaries and learned more it was time to get something that would really protect my hands and dropping $100 even as a part time employee was no big deal (BUT I also have a problem right now anything for the motorcycle as long as the math says I can afford it is worth it).

    • @tagg8233
      @tagg8233 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good points of course there are better value gloves than A* pros but I would make a couple points. I've had A*s celers (i paid £80 so I guess that would be around $120) and there were mesh with a bit or carbon on the knuckles. Take off the a*s logo and they'd be £30. There are cheaper brands (I now have Furygan fit-Rs that were £80 sale and I love them) but most people paying $60 for a* gloves must know they're fake and expect poorer quality and tbh in the video when they were cut open they were better than I would have expected. Compare to a branded $60 (if one exists) and the quality would be real similar

  • @ValdiValdies

    Dress for the slide not the ride.... But while it was fun to watch these gloves cut apart it really didn't prove much. I'd like to see both of these go up against and abrasion over time test using calibrated force to actually see how these gloves compare to each other.

    • @bikebandit
      @bikebandit  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +gmctech
      Hey GMC,
      Thanks for watching our videos. We agree for sure...dress for the crash. In this video, we were trying to show that if the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. That and the fact that there are companies out there that are making and selling gear that is a darn good copy visually. At a quick glance they seem like the real deal with all of the logos in the right place, and external features that appear accurate. If you held the fakes in this video, it wouldn't take a knowledgeable rider to spot them as frauds. That is the dangerous part. Many new riders and even some unsuspecting veteran riders would buy them "for a great price", and expect them to protect them in a crash scenario. That is the worst part. Companies are profiting by selling fraudulent safety apparel, with no concern for the outcome. As far as a abrasion test, there would truly be no comparison. Even worse would be the trauma to bones upon impact. The padding underneath the facade of armor was a joke. The box your computer came in had better foam in it.
      Again, thanks for watching our videos and the dialogue. You're a subscriber to our channel, right? Ride safe out there. BB.com!

    • @gmctech
      @gmctech 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh, I fully agree... just pointing out that an actual abrasion test would likely scare the beejeepers out of unseasoned riders. Last year a friend of mine showed up with a "brand new eBay wicked deal".... after a few hours of debate and research it was determined the helmet was a fake... scared me senseless to see a real life fake helmet. I grew up running Bell helmets and have no issue forking out half a grand on a modern brain bucket; but when I was presented with a new helmet retailing for $600 that was purchased for around $200 alarm bells went off in my mind and after lots of research and a quick reply from an email to the manufacturer it was determined to be fake.

  • @nickcardillo5021
    @nickcardillo5021 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    There really doesn't look to be too much difference between the two, considering there is a $150 price difference. Although the fake one may not be leather it may still good abrasion resistance. I usually spend a lot on protective gear, but to be honest I would buy those fakes. How many people do you know who have had hand injuries because their glove disintegrated in a crash? Probably none.

    Just shows how much these retailers have been ripping us off for years. BS bias comparison. If you're on a budget you're still better off getting gloves from Aliexpress. I've heavily used my Aliexpress Revit in snow and rain and they remained dry and warm.

    • @trsskater
      @trsskater 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I bought some cheap $20 chinese gloves that handle wet and cold very well. Thats not hard to achieve. But they will give you road rash if you hands go down because thats the part that makes a glove more expensive. Even the low end of decent brands you are spending less money because you are getting less protection. So I wouldn't count it as a win as much as you could have gotten the same quality from other brands at that same price point and sometimes even cheaper like the gloves in this video. You could get an Alpinestars glove that gives you the same perfomance at the same price. It just won't be a race level glove.

  • @Nightdare
    @Nightdare 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would have replaced the talkshow "comedy" for things like tests on the material itself
    like hitting the knuckle with a hammer, trying to pull off a finger, setting them on fire
    It doesn't need to be "scientific" but basic pull and hit forces that you can moderately replicate on equal terms

    Most people will need to cheap out in some part of the gear, if so gloves is a good place to cut corners but NEVER cheap out on: helmet, boots, or jacket. Those are the key 3 things you need top quality no matter what as even at low speed you can injure yourself pretty badly on your back, arms, shoulders, head and one of the most weak and most affected spots your foots and ankles.
    Also the gloves part is not THAT much of a help... even knock off gloves will help you out if you can't afford the real thing, if you crash at regular low speed (20~40kmph) it will help you out, if you crash at any higher speeds not golden made gloves will save your from that...... also if that does happens your hands will be the last thing you will be worrying about.

    • @bikebandit

      Neil Appleby Hey Neil,When it comes to motorcycle apparel, just see it as an investment. Quality components make for a quality product. Think of a wooden bridge. Good wood but shoddy hardware...FAIL. Shoddy wood but good hardware...FAIL. All of the pieces need to be high quality. Where the price tag comes from more exotic hides (kangaroo), more exotic armor (titanium/carbon fiber) and quality thread such as polyester core thread (polyester core for strength wrapped in cotton for heat resistance and a solid bite into the material). That's where the fakes take advantage of things. They make things look like they're quality on the outside, but it's the inside materials are inferior, and consumers are fooled. If I had just $60 for gloves, I'd buy the AStars SP-3's that are on special right now, as opposed to the flagship fakes. There will be other videos soon, along those same lines. Next, could you compare these knock offs to a cheaper set of gloves that you sell? I'm not surprised in the least that they don't hold up to the craftsmanship of the genuine article, but are they "good enough" for any riding scenario or are they complete crap in all scenarios?

    • @mattm9087
      @mattm9087 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see this question pop up now a couple times and I'll give the same response in hopes of saving fellow riders. BBC did a study testing knockoff yamaha pants. Spoiler alert they didn't meet ece standards. I think any certified garmet from a real manufacturer if likely safer than a knockoff. It has to be. It met the certification. $20 ce certified glove vs $60 knockoff glove who definitely didn't get any ce certs? All gloves have different levels of protection and im sure the 20 dollar glove can't hold a candle to Knox gauntlet but at least it had some kind of testing. Knockoffs you just have no idea. I mean he said it's definitely not leather. Then what is it? It might not even be abrasion resistant and it could shred like paper. Idk knockoffs scare me after seeing this. These knockoffs look better and better all the time

    I bought some Chinese gloves and I think it is best to pay the extra and get the real things. Even if you buy Pakistani gloves. They have a part that looks like fiberglass until it breaks and you see it is plastic with paper inside. Imagine that in a crash. I am happy for this video.

      Hey Tom,
      My best analogy would be something like this re: the $60 gloves shown here...a first grade child with a black belt in karate. Really.
      The kid might have a black belt, and received great training, but in a practical application setting, really how effective will the kid be. Yes, they are a black belt, but perhaps there is a false sense of security there as well. Take a look at some of the gloves that have recently gone to "close-out". This is the perfect time of year to buy last years gear at a fantastic deal. A great example would be the Scorpion EXO Guardian gloves: full leather construction, hard knuckles armor, a few colors to choose from, etc. and they're just over $50! Lots of good options out there for sure. Now, hitting the ground in the fakes with their material (we're still not sure what they're made from) questionable thread material, and a facade of an armor complement...well that's just too much of a gamble to take. As with anything, if something seems too good to be true....it probably is. Thanks for watching our videos and the question. Ride safe. BB.com

I can't afford the $250 glove either I get it but Jesus there's dozen of gloves far cheaper that are the real deal tested and certified to protect u? Why is gear so expensive? Ur paying for that testing in part. The knockoffs just take the design and do none of the testing. Knockoff stuff just seems like murky waters to me. Idk to each their own but I wouldn't be caught dead in fake gear I know might need to save my ass one day. I get the whole woah look at my awesome gear. Same thing as designer bags tho. It sure looks like the fake ones knuckle foam that you call cheap is identicle to the alpine stars impact area foam. And this video was kind of pointless, all it tells you is that one is fake. It in know way shows which one would actually be better in a crash.
    Saying the real one has ridges inside the knuckle so its better? Take both of them to a belt sander and video it. That would be more of a test as opposed to just saying this is cheap over and over.

      @bikebandit  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Sargeant,
      Thanks for the props on the video production. We appreciate you watching them and the positive feedback. Now, where we're going to disagree with you is on the protective capabilities of these gloves in a serious accident. Remember, especially with gloves, more armor, thicker leather, and strategically placed sliders, etc...more is better. There is however the delicate balance of protection and dexterity. We've got employees here that have had triple digit speed crashes, and walked away with not a scratch on them. One guy in particular here, destroyed an Arai Corsair, a Spidi kangaroo suit, Spidi Penta gloves, flattened his back protector, and scuffed up his boots pretty good. Essentially wasted about $3500-$4000 in gear (the suit was $2000) but in the end he walked away. Not so much as a scratch. So was it really a waste? We think not. There are no guarantees when it comes to crash scenarios, but you have a much better chance of minimizing you injuries with high end gear. Look at the guys on the MotoGP circuit. They rarely crash, but when they do...it's not just a silly tip over. Anyways, we agree that ATGATT is smart thinking.

So now imagine a motorcycle crash with shit gear broken hands, maybe a foot, rib, road rash, etc. All the stuff they have to do to put you back together (not to mention potential future surgeries if thinks don't sit right) and probably multiple days in the hospital on top of the ambulance ride you are looking at a whopping bill that will probably cost you 10x what the gear did. ATGATT and good gear at that.

They 1 downside is that you definitely feel like you are wearing a glove unlike the gloves I tried on before. Hey Jessie,
      We can talk anything you like: Scotch, motorcycle gloves, diamonds, or power tools. The good stuff will always cost more. Always.
      Companies that produce high end motorcycle apparel spend millions of dollars testing their products, making sure that their customers get the finest quality, the safest design, and the best materials for the money. Alpinestars sponsors the fastest guys on the planet, and those riders come back with input on how to make the product better. The MotoGP is the highest level of roadracing. Of the last 10 years, 8 of those years, the World Champions (Hayden, Stoner, Lorenzo and Marquez) wore Alpinestars. They are your product development team. Think of it that way.
      Sure you have choices when it comes to gear. They make gloves with only half of the fingers covered. They make helmets that only cover the top of your head. You can choose to ride in denim jeans and sneakers if you like. When you look at the top tier products, expect to find the price tag to go with it. We sell gloves at all price points, but if anyone thinks that they're getting the finest glove for $70, well, we both know that's simply not the case.

      +BikeBandit Agree with you there, quality means more R&D time spent coming up with a procedure. There could be GMP, QA, QC, SOP's involved in making products. I save my money and buy quality gear for riding since it's my life im protecting. Good quality doesn't come cheap. I work in production of medicine, and guys a lot of work, time, effort, planning goes into making a quality product. Sometimes I do 73 hour weeks just so we meet quota for the medicine we make for Hemophiliacs, and we are just one step out of many.

      Hey AM,
      It's always nice when others understand the concept of investment. We've had some folks comment on the fact that $250 is WAY out of line when it comes to a pair of gloves. We think not. When you're looking at a glove of this caliber, you're talking about the finest materials, the countless hours of R&D that goes into them, and the fact that they have an amazing balance of safety with full functionality, and are available to the retail public, makes them worth every penny.

      Hey BK,
      We're not here to argue, and the beauty of this world is that you can choose to wear whatever you want to when you ride your motorcycle, even nothing at all. Totally your call. There are $60 genuine gloves that will protect you better than $60 frauds.
      It's not so much as where it's made (here we're talking about gloves) but this can be anything you like. It's the ingredients. If you use mediocre ingredients, you get a mediocre product. We can agree on that hopefully.
      Our problem is that you have businesses that are trying to pass off frauds as the real deal, that can be had for a bargain, and it's peoples safety we're talking about here. You want to drink lousy Scotch, go for it. It just tastes kind of blah, but it's still booze. Having someone expect to fall off a motorcycle and still be safe is just wrong.
      Now, your GWoChina parallel is just silly. You realize that it took 9 YEARS just to build the original section, right? What you know as the "whole wall" (which really wasn't a complete project took another 11, and the wall that you know today was actually completed over several hundred years, over 1000 years after the project even started. The motivation was to protect the Chinese from the warring Mongols approaching from the South. Imagine if the Chinese Dynasty at the time "sold" the idea of a wall to the populace as a barrier of safety, and then built it out of marshmallows. That's a closer parallel to your glove/cost idea.

      O.k.Then explain this to me please.
      I just bought a pair of boots these days(the Tech 5s' to be exact) and they are made of leather,synthetic leather, and rubber.
      The boots weight about twelve times more than the gloves do, and both are made from the same materials.
      How come the gloves cost more than the boots?Do they make coffee or something?
      And what I said about the scenic wall is not a parallelism ,it's a statement.I' m not into why they build it,when they started building it,if they stopped and continued after a thousand years.
      I just stated that it's the only man made costruction that can be seen from space and it's Chinese.
      I don't have anything against Thailand.I am a Thai-box athlete myself
      and I love Thai people and I go crazy about Thai food.

      Hey BK,
      So, your boots weigh 12x what your gloves do because they're about 12x the size. There are buckles and a steel shank internally that adds weight, however with the gloves, it's smaller components and thus harder to make, hence the higher cost. If they make coffee, awesome!
      Here's an interesting fact about high-end motorcycle gear. Did you know that only Japanese women assemble Arai helmets? The men make the shells, and the women because of their smaller hands, and more attention to detail in the application of graphics, vents, etc. assemble the final product.
      We will agree with you 100% that Thai food is wonderful.
      Anyways, most importantly, enjoy your ride. Ride safe and thanks for the dialogue. BB.com!

      +BikeBandit Actually I didn't know that, thanks, but I remember in the late 80's my friends at school were mocking me because my father owned a Japanese car, and a few years later when they graduated from high scool, most of them got Japanese cars.
      Thank you, too for the conversation!

    $60 compared to $240 is really quite a difference though isn't it? I can buy 4 pairs! I might not skimp on the helmet quality but gloves? Humm...
    I think the knock offs are still WAY BETTER than what was available even just a few years ago and I still have both my hands so...
    Just saying-
