      In Utero defined my guitar tone for my whole life. I have always wanted to find a 1982 Fender Twin Reverb and rebuild it like Kurt’s. I already have his pedals like the SanAmp Classic which is that records drive tone. The PolyChorus is key too. The 1982 Twin is rare. I have never seen one on Reverb or EBay. Seen and 80 and 81 but never an 82. 1982 was the last year of Ultraliner production. I have been working on dialing in my Kemper to do all the In Utero effects. PolyChorus is the challenge.

    My favorite Foo Fighters tone (and album in general) is There is Nothing Left to Lose from 1999. The Gibson Explorer tone through the Vox AC30 inspired my own rig, that's primarily what I play in my own band. This is a really cool video, love all of the Foos records.

    • @kurdtjohn
      @kurdtjohn 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Jamesfoofighter loads and loads of compression were used on everything especially on guitars. Those two songs that weren't mixed by Tom Lord-Alge (The Party Song, and Wendy Clear) do not possess the same kind of compression. It'd be interesting if there was an album's worth of Jerry Finn mixes on that record.

I keep telling people that you can't record the way you play live and expect to get the best result just b'cuz. Sometimes you need to rethink everything about your sound because it will sound different in a mix, through some mics, and on a hard disk.

    Nicely done, I'd say you did it justice. I keep seeing requests for Jerry Cantrell's sound, personally I really liked his sound from Dirt and I believe he used a Bogner Fish for that.
    I like his tone so much I bought an 86' JCM800 and had Brian at BFG amps mod it with his Snorkler (Jerry Cantrell) mod years ago and it sounds amazing and is still one of my favorite amps to play.

    Not really from your childhood but I'd love to hear your thoughts and tone representation of the album "meteora" by linkin park.

    Foo Fighters may be a bit generic at times, but their Guitar tone always keeps me coming back. Summers End and Congregation for specific reference. Such an articulate and clear Drive sound, that’s seemingly unique to the Foos, and unfortunately nobody seems to even attempt this unique tone when doing these Sound Likes, always just the easy high gain stuff, wtf? Going straight into my Sheriff 22 comes close at times, but gonna check out the Victory Copper and try some Drives through it to see if I can come closer. I know Chris was using 2 hand wired AC30s for a while there.

    Great job Fluff, definitely got really close! Might be just me, but I think it might have been a little closer without the distressor. I'll have to go listen to the album again to double check though

    I love this series. Using what I have I could get this using an 84 Destroyer, ehx Glove and Blackstar Artist 15.

    One of my favourite records of all time! I bought it also when it was released and i still listen to it very often and i still love to play the songs myself. The overall sound/vibe of that record is incredible! So raw! I read/heard the guitars were a modded Plexi on that record though..
