I think someone should tell whoever came up with the title that "A Mansion in Darkness", which is the song actually featured here, and "Darkness", which is the song mentioned in the title, are two entirely different songs. "A Mansion in Darkness" is the third track from the album "Abigail" and "Darkness" is the 9th track from the album "The Puppet Master". Both songs are excellent, but when I read the title, I was expecting the song from "The Puppet Master".
That lead guitarist is none other than the great Andy LaRocque. He does all the Sound Mixing on the recordings for not only King Diamond, but several other bands as well. There's an interview with him on the @A&P-Reacts channel. It's a good watch.
This is my favorite King Diamond song! If you ever get the chance in the future listen to the entire Abigail album. It's a concept album and a Gothic Horror story. each song is a "Chapter" in the story. I think you'll love it!
Thank you for playing KD as I'm a die hard fan from the first moment I was turned on to him at 14 & my very first concert was the "THEM" tour in 88 at first Avenue in Minneapolis (Prince made famous) RIP I was 16 at the time & was blown away by the his live show!!!! The last show I seen was Abigail tour which was amazing playing the album beginning to end live was truly epic.
That was my first King Diamond concert also but in Portland Oregon. It was a bonus Flotsam and Jetsam opened for him because they were also one of my favorites.
Some nerdy things : Back in the 80s I saw 3 bands in Saga, Copenhagen. First band was Mercyful Fate, second cant remember and the last was King Diamond. In the end King D said : I have some speciel guests who i want to invite at the scene ....... The guest was Mercyful Fate (again) and they played together some bonus songs - This was GREAT ! :) 2020 I bought a one day ticket to see the reunion with Mercyful Fate starting at Copenhell. They would only play the good stuff from before King D. I got a refund but now I have bought the same ticket to 2022 ! I was not sure that Mercyful Fate would play the same day .... And Timi Hansen RIP ! 97 pct still have their old tickets from 2020 without demanding a refund. YES 97 pct !! There is also a warm up day at Copenhell and the 97 pct got the rights to buy and change their tickets from 3 days to 4. The reason is that Metallica plays at the warm up days. Cheers and see you in Valhalla
I can still remember the moment I first heard KD and it was that particular album. I cannot describe what I felt. I only know it felt very good. Since then music has been divided into KD and everything else for me. Beyond.
When I was in high school my best friend and I bought the Abigail album without even knowing who he was. We laughed hysterically the first listen because it was so weird. Didn’t like it at first...but the second listen I started realizing the brilliance. He’s still one of my favorites now.
There's something in that melody..... its called the King's Darkness. I am 43, I have listened to King Diamond since the first album when it came out.. for his age, probabĺy 60 by now, his perfection is incredible.
The sound name is Arrival by the way my friend. King is a big inspiration for many peoples creativity And he got me into metal. He's 4 characters on the show Metalocalypse. Just a legend. Still one of my favorite singers ever.
King Diamond. Now there's a blast from the past. I remember way back in the day the kids loved him because we thought he was the epitome of evil and everything our parents hated. Meanwhile he's on stage singing about living like puppets in jars. Hahaha.
You MUST react to Ronnie James Dio aka DIO. A true rock legend with a fine spin on theatrics. STARGAZER. HEAVEN & HELL. HOLY DIVER. So many... You will NOT be disappointed.. 🎶🎶🎶✌
He is classically trained and went into metal there is a few king Dimond, david from distrub and Ian from deep purple thats all I know of love all three
We are protective. And very, very open. Especially to anyone who shows a legitimate interest in our music. Bonus points if you're an "outsider" like most of us.
Not sure if you've gotten around to any full-album reactions from King Diamond yet, but if it helps, a couple of "starters" would be the albums where only half the songs tell a whole story : 1985 - FATAL PORTRAIT (first 3 songs + the final song on the album - I still don't know why it was done this way?) - The Candle - The Jonah - The Portrait - Haunted 1995 - THE SPIDER'S LULLABYE (last 4 songs on the album) - The Spider's Lullabye - The Eastmann Cure - Room 17 - To The Morgue
Give Type O Negative a shot. Iconic front man and band. Sweet dark voice. Classics are Black No 1. Long version, Christian Woman Long version, I Like Goils, Angry Inch, Nettie, It's Never Enough, Haunted, to name a few. Enjoy.
vastly under rated singer and band still touring. lizzy borden 87 murderess metal. road show. live and let die Council of the cauldron through these eyes american metal this right up your alley I'm requesting you have a reaction.
You need to listen to his full albums. The man not only has an incredible voice, he is an amazing storyteller. All but 2 of his albums are concept albums that tell a horror story. He is the Stephen King of Heavy Metal (and in my opinion his stories are better than most of Stephen King's). Personally I recommend you do a full album reaction to Abigail (or at least listen to it and give us your review). It was his first full concept album (the previous one had 4 songs that told one story) and it is one of the greatest heavy metal albums of all time.
King Diamond has another band. His 1st Band to be signed was Mercyful Fate. In the mid 80s Mercyful Fate broke up, than King Diamond made a band using his name. Mercyful Fate is more occult, superstition and such. King Diamond, is more social minded with occult elements and each album tells a complete story.
You should try an entire album, as most of the albums are full story. some of the stories are continued on later releases. The Puppet Master Give me your Soul please Abigail/Abigail 2 Them/Conspiracy Each album is a work of art
Good ups. Might sound weird but listen, when you make it to Carach Angren you have three choices. Official video. Lyric video. Fish Center Live performance. I would not be disappointed if you went with their Fish Center Live performance.
check out some Nightwish - the wishmaster album mate :D if ur new into that theatrical opera metal :D or maybe Blind Guardian - Night at the opera :D u might like em
Metal is your #2 behind Theatrical? Eh, we'll take that mate. I can tell you why you've made that decision. In the ~50 years of Metal/Hard Rock, the genre has changed and morphed into something for everyone. In the early days (1970s to 1980s) there wasn't that many different styles or subgenres. So it was kind of a niche thing. But now with the genre going into its 6th decade, there's just so much more to choose from. So whatever one's tastes are, there's probably a metal subgenre that fits that bill. But if you can remember this one thing then you'll love the genre even more, and that's Metal is basically the merging of Classical Music (instrumentation) with The Blues (lyrical content) just sung and played with more aggression and modern instruments.
You probably already got to this but listen to his first 5 studio albums.lot’s more harmonies and the production on a limited budget destroyed anyone at the same time in history.listen to a lot of metal albums at that time period and they are totally dated.king diamond rules!
Next King Diamond reaction absolutely needs to be "Eye Of The Witch".
Beautiful and haunting...
A true masterpiece!!
LONG LIVE THE KING
His majesty, King Diamond!

King Diamond is an incredible talent.
This song is A Mansion in Darkness. In fact King have song called Darkness but it was released in 2003 and it sound totally different
Thanks Nat, another great reaction. King Diamond brings back a lot of good memories when I was much younger.
Another great King Diamond choice my Gothic friend. Let's stick with Metal and turn it up to some Mercyful Fate soon!
Yeah we need Mercyful Fate
Oh, Mercyful Fate!...What can I say?
Awesome!!!!

But! Can't wait for the Floor Jansen Euphoria reaction. You gotta do it.

the first was this album for me. the band was just to great to dismiss as a fluke. circa 1989

Love that shade of lipstick! Reminds me of that beautiful blue shirt you own.
I would love to hear King do some readings of Poe

“Stargazer” when he was in Rainbow is a masterpiece.
Best reaction ever loved it
My favourite song of King... He is unique...
Its just an amazing experience to watch artists mastering their craft.
All I have to say is that beginning guitar riff sounds like IRON MAIDEN and I'm living! 😎🤘 😎
He is classically trained and went into metal there is a few king Dimond, david from distrub and Ian from deep purple thats all I know of love all three
Yep, lets stay with metal!
I'm 54 years young.People tell me you're to old to listen to this kind of music anymore. I just say, metal to the grave.
@@rogerbyington5640 48 this year and still huge fan of old school metal, death metal etc etc! Till the grave!
If I end up in nursing home when I'm older and the nurse ask me if need something ,, Yes , put on some Slayer, please"

And to think that the dude was 61 when this was filmed 😱

I think you would love that one
Excellent reaction. Btw the metal brotherhood will welcome you with open arms. In fact you can gain new friendships for life as I have...🤘
Have you heard Overkill's Elimination? The way I read it it's an AIDS awareness song dating back to 1989. Great video, Thanks!
Swear to God i watch this reaction at least once a day,
My first album I buy was fatal portrait
YESSS!!!!

The most under-rated band in metal.
Under-rated? He has a huge following and most metal artist know and respect him.

The title is kinda wrong. There is a song "Darkness", but this one is "A mansion in darkness" :-)
The only good thing about Country music is that I live in a country where I am free to not listen to the crap! Cheers!
Jeez, that opening could be Helloween, very similar!
Saw Helloween when they opened for Exodus and Anthrax in ‘89. They got booed off the stage 😂
@@GilaMonster971 they got MUCH better after 93 when Andi Deris replaced Kiske
And at the wrong spots!
Oh my God why must all reactioners pause the freaking performance to talk
Omg. I understand occasional pauses during a song, but you totally ruin EVERY song you react to with your constant interruptions
Bro, King's music has absolutely nothing to do with country music bro. Metals roots are based deep Southern Blues, Blues- rock 🎸, and classical music
