tournament arcs aren't the best to judge the story of a series. tournaments and fighting are the main focus in yu yu hakusho. there's much more going on in hxh even though there are a lot of fights.
The Chimera Ant arc is better than any arc in yu yu hakusho. So much development, plot progression was great, the main antagonist were great, protagonist got development, morals were tested excellently, amazing tactical fights. This arc had so many great things about it
Ok I know I will seem kinda suspect to people here for saying this, but the Three Kings arc was not that good and this is for the Manga version. Reasons for this are that the arc was not only Incredibly rushed, but the way the characters acted made no sense. Take Yusuke, a person who was reluctant to kill humans for the greater good, but now he will feed humans to Raizen? Ok. Then you have Hiei's backstory which was great, the problem is that he starts to feel for Mukuro out no where we don't see a relationship form in the Manga between them. Worst of all is Kurama who never chose between his Yoko self and Shuichi. We also didn't see a final fight between Yomi and Yusuke and the terrorist stuff was absolutely unecessary to the story and added nothing. Overall the Three Kings saga had some good characterization but the inconsistencies within the character of Yusuke and arguably Hiei along with the lack of development for Kurama hold it back because that arc was supposed provide them with proper development which it didn't.
Na. Yusuke just learned killing's necessary if it preserves the life of another being and that he shouldn't be judgemental of another's lifestyle. Great character for a great series.

I'd say YuYu Hakusho because it doesn't have any filler episodes and the story's more compelling and suspenseful than Hunter X Hunter though the fights in HxH are better than YuYu Hakusho because there's so much violence in that anime.
Yu yu hakusho is still the better anime and has a better relating point to the viewers than hunter x hunter any true yu yu fan knows that the story was rushed and was supposed to play out way different than what was released and last longer hunter x hunter is good I don't like the main characters as much and pretty sure many people can relate if anything yu yu hakusho needs a revamp or needs to be remade hunter x hunter seems like a tribute almost in my opinion to yu yu hakusho

Hxh is may more complex, better charachter development, better world building. Yu Yu is more simplistic (more emphasis on fights and charachters) but Hunter x Hunter is better as a story. Yu Yu is more simplistic in a story aspect whereas Hunter X Hunter is richer and deeper. I think the average person is more related to a more simplistic style of story where you know the charachters and see epic fights but Hunter x Hunter goes deeper and becomes not just about a few charachters but the world and highlights everyones interactions. The battles are less brawn and more brain.
