I'm working on a large, coffered ceiling, and working above my head is going to get old real quick. None of those 10/11 lb framing nailers for me. The Paslode fit the bill and the weight of the tool was a key factor in my purchase.

    Paslode is still the most widely used gun in NZ, But in saying that to keep cost down on buying fuelcells, Take the time to use a compressor and air gun if doing lots of framing and subfloor work etc ...

  • @ctdieselnut
    @ctdieselnut ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Agree 100% about the weight. 4lb difference is huge by the end of the day/week/job/year/lifetime. Especially if held over your head for any amount of time.
    Im all for modifying your tools, too. Dont like the heavy spring tension on the belt hanger hook? Take the spring out, or replace with a lighter one. 'Foot' serrations slip on angled shots, file/bend those suckers till they stick. You bought the tool, you have to use it. If you can improve some aspect of it without making it dangerous, i say go for it. Mechanics often have to make/modify tools, i don't see why builders can't do the same. Just don't give someone else a saw you've pryed the safety off of. Or at least, don't let osha see it...

    July of 2023 Paslode stopped shipping new fuel cells with the required 90 degree adapter for the pre 2010 guns. Talk about a real F-U surprise if you buy a fuel cell at the store as they have not changed the box to reflect that.
    I bought the newest model via Lowes on a black friday sale and compared to the Dewalt flywheel type framing guns (I have both of the Dewalt models) it is a rockstar, that $15 every 1000 nails thing does suck but not having an air hose trying to trip you up and kill you with every step when your 2 stories off the ground is totally worth it.

    Make sure you check the expiration date on the bottom of the fuel cartridge. I drove home 200 miles from Reno only to find out the fuel cells were expired in May of 2024, 5 months ago ! I bought them at Lowes. Their service is terrible. They wouldn't ship me some fresh replacements. No. It's YOUR PROBLEM ! I'm pretty f#@kin' pissed.

    • @RepentOrPerishL133
      @RepentOrPerishL133 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Make sure you check the date code on the can. I think they expire in 18 or 24 months. I can't recall, and it could have changed because they reformulated the fuel to improve cold weather performance. The supplier could have unknowingly sold expired fuel. A new tool and fuel can sit on the shelf for two years. The tool isn't aging but the fuel is. Fuel is like milk, the unopened package doesn't stop it from aging. I don't think most suppliers understand that. They should check their fuel inventory once a year. I don't know if Paslode has a return policy with the stores on unsold expiring fuel. They should look into it. Oh, make sure you're not trying to install the old metering valve type on the can. It won't work. You don't need it. The metering valve is built into the can.

I charge all my Batteries off of Solar, So I only need to spend more money when the battery comes to end of life. if I was not charging them with solar, its still cheaper than the $13 or so for the "air cartridge". I would also rather not have the chance of it exploding either.

    Say you're toe nailing a stud up into a top plate. From 45* you should be 15* closer to vertical, not 15* closer to horizontal. Which means, unfortunately, I think you have the 30* angle "backwards" when laying the magazine against the stud. To use the 30* angle of the nails you'd need to rest the magazine against the plate, which isn't practical.

    • @HuntsWorkshop
      @HuntsWorkshop  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We always nail the top and bottom of studs through the single plate then add overlapping top plates on. But for framing in openings we go right to the header with 30. Stronger than 90 degree.

    It's by a long way the worst tool I have ever purchased. I finally gave up on it 2 years ago. It cost me more in constant repairs due to misfiring than it cost new. Paslode love blaming the customer for not cleaning it. Mine was constantly cleaned and it never worked properly, I have the Milwaukee and the Hikoki and they are far better in terms of power and reliability. No gas no cleaning it just fires nails as it should.

      We never clean ours, besides the air filter. Work like a charm been using them for literally 20 years.

    I have the dewalt 3rd gen framing nailer only to go with a bunch of other flexvolt tools. That and it comes in a bit lighter than some of the other battery only options. But still it's a bit of a bitch on the elbow. After a decade or so in the game the smaller ergonomics start to play a bigger roll. Got a new xp on the way and I'm super excited! I love a stick nailer for framing and a coil nailer for sheathing. Having the depth adjustment is a huge plus for back framing where you might switch from nailing 2x to ply which is kinda lacking in the power master (plus pneumatic paslode).

    This could be dumb, but maybe a good idea if Milwaukee made a 12 amp version
