    Thanks for this video, by now I am repairing a Mackie 450 v3 which use this IC in the bass amp and I am so disappointed of company's like NXP because so many speakers use this IC for Gods sake like this Mackie 450 V3, some FBT's and Yamaha and if I were one of this company's I would not use any NXP IC in the future as they must be punished 😡

      This is funny. A friend of mine gave me 2x v3 to fix. Last time he used them we were both at the wedding. I think nobody notices the bass die in the mackies because we were also using a sub. I looked all through youtube for tips but nobody has vids on the V3. As i wrote above seems one of the bootstrap legs is shorting internally to it's corresponding output leg. Is that what you found. I feel i should check for signal before i order but i'm 99% sure it's the TDA8954 with this short on the boot. Will buy a generic from Ali but i never trusted these new style amp chips since they came out. All that heat in such a tiny space with virtually no heatsink.

    I'm looking at a mackie srm 450 v3. The bass drives is driven from one of these. I see there seems to be a short from one of the bootstrap pins to it's corresponding output (running always in bridged mode) I'm going to say that this must be blown the other output has no short to the bootstrap. I removed the cap and the short is still there. Less than €9 including shipping to France from Aliex.

    I have a bass amp that uses the TDA8954, and all of a sudden the two output filter inductors burnt. May you have any suggestions as what could of went wrong?

    • @KissAnalog
      @KissAnalog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, it sounds like there might have been a near short - something to overload it and heat the inductors - or low frequency at high level? Are the TDA8954s still functioning?

    • @paolomauri3207
      @paolomauri3207 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know if it’s still working but it is a prime suspect, the amp just makes a clicking noise when you turn it on. That noise started intermittently but always about 10 minutes after turning it on until it quit. I never had it at full volume and the bass has passive output. Everything before the power amp seems to be in working order, since the headphones and xlr outputs function well. I can’t see any other signs of damage anywhere else.

    Do you think It is pure 420+420= 840 watts? Another issue how many volts and amperes can I give in this amplifier board? If I use 30-0-30 volts & 20 amperes then will it be risk for amplifier board? Waiting for your reply.

    The real question is are these Chinese parts from eBay real or counterfeit parts? There is currently a global electronic parts supply shortage that doesn’t look like it’s going to end anytime soon. Finding end-of-life parts or obsolete parts now is even more difficult than it has been before. Good luck with your end of life part search.

    For 3 bucks it was a real bargain. For lower power amps single power supply is more desirable. For high power class D modules, external mosfet's are more reasonable. This one was somewhere in between.

    I have several old computers from the 80's and I run into this all the time. I use Ebay and sometimes Aliexpress to make repairs. I've paid 50 dollars for one chip off Ebay. You can also buy broken equipment and try desoldering the chip it in hopes it is still good. Like you said maybe you can find a pin compatible replacement. If not there is always like you said daughter boards to make something else to work.

      Even if it was just a nice board he uploads to a site like PCB way plus a BOM I'd be cool with that. You would at least know it does rated power and the THD wasn't off the charts. About 80% of the kits on eBay sound terrible.

    coolGaN board EVAL_AUDAMP24
    Single-ended, 2-channel CoolGaN™ class D amplifier for premium audio applications
    The EVAL_AUDAMP24 e-mode GaN HEMT-based evaluation board is a 2-channel, 225W/ch (4Ω at ±43V) or 250 W/ch( 8Ω at ±63V) half-bridge class D audio power amplifier for high-end Hi-Fi audio systems. This evaluation board demonstrates how to use the IGT40R070D1 E8220 CoolGaN™ gallium nitride transistor together with the MERUS™ IRS20957SPBF controller IC, implement protection circuits, and design an optimum PCB layout. The reference design provides all the required housekeeping power supplies for ease of use. The 2-channel design is scalable for power and the number of channels.

    I love your work, but why does it take 5 min. to say, "I'm really sad, but this part has been discontinued. My friend and I would have liked to build amps with it - but now we will have to find another solution."? For me, all I need to know is, "we were going to use this, but now we can't." The journey of discovery in web page screenshots that you cannot buy, is not interesting as i can do that myself in about 30 seconds. It's a story for you to say, "I wanted to do this with my friend - these were our plans electronically." There's not much of a story to, "I can't get this part anymore, and here is how I searched to prove it," or something similar to that. Again, your work is great, and that's why I keep watching. But I sincerely believe, you could cut your information in half, drop unnecessary additions to descriptions, and your videos would improve dramatically. And your friend, I stopped watching him finally. Why? Extraneous information, usually in the form of complaining. You don't do that. I like that you do not do that. Here you are not complaining. You are simply stating facts.
