Hey Nick been flying this lil one since is was released. My thoughts the emax Avon props are great. Really good grip compared to bi blades. Battery I run a 520 2s. Sounds heavy but love it and it does have good float and over 5 min flights. This one well built takes lots of hits well from a beginner. Down side camera is poor but easy upgrade. Double check and perhaps lock right blue bolts have had a few vanish on me. Over all really good flyer that can do freestyle and race as well. In my experience if your new this is a great buy to cut your teeth on beyond the whoop world. Hope someone finds this post helpful.
    Cheers!

I'm an owner here are my top 5 tips (musts)
    #1. (3s 450mah tattu)
350mah was too floaty, and this gave 5-8min flight time.
#2. (Get rid of the TPU mount)
It swings into your props, use zip ties on arms.
    #3. (Buckle strap)
Geprc strap is week, battery shifts and props hit battery leads.
    #4. (Spare frame $18)
The stand offs strip out easy, and arms can break.
#5. (Zip tie that back Stanton off down)
This one is kinda hard to explain. Send a zip tie throuhg the frame where the antenna goes through and then throught the base plate. This makes the frame much stronger in rear, also use the slack pointing up to shrink wrap you antenna to.
One more thing. Putt xing 1103 motors on it. It's the cherry ontop to this amazing quad.
Getfpv has 1 left at this moment (frsky)

I swapped out for xing too, it's amazing. I use 300mah 3s and it flies for about 4 or 5 mins. I feel like 450 is way too heavy, but I like racing so maybe thats why I like the light weight lol

I have broke an arm from a failsafe about 50ft high over concrete!
The sweet spot for the Geprc Phantom is 3s 450hv GNB I get 4.5 sometimes 5 mins hard flying, that 350mah is just too small , no flight time and the voltage sag is terrible. Also the best props are probably the hq t65 but I thought about trying the t65 tri-blade, please try those if you have some I don't have any yet. Love your channel ❤️ great job Nick.

I bought one about a year ago and have flown it (learned how to fly using this one) and wrecked it many times. Over the past year and buying new frames, stacks, and motors I now have 3 phantoms that are flyable and each are just a little different. My favorite one is the one with flywoo 35 amp esc/ mamaba 1103 8000kv/ 450 gnb or 550 rline/ the hg bi blade. To me that is the funniest back yard quad. I'm now think I'm ready to try a bigger quad and im looking for a 5 maybe 6 inch one.

Try 450mAh 2S with 2.5“ Avan Rush props!
It turns it into a true Phantom. So silent! The punch and grip these props provide will ensure enough power with 2S. I get about 4.5 min flight time. I also swapped the camera for a Runcam Nano 2.

First, Thanks for the excellent video. I have owned a GEPRC Phantom for about 8 months now. I love it. For me this is an excellent quad that I highly recommend. The GEPRC Phantom is a great quad. So much so that, I purchased another one after losing the first one. The PID settings are all factory; No changes. The only "enhancements" are: HQProp T65mm 2.5 inch bi-blade props, changed VTX antenna, added a U.FL retainer plate on VTX connector, added a ViFly self powered buzzer, added landing pads and did some wire management. Since I have a bunch of 1S batteries, I made an adapter to run two paired 1S batteries. Mostly GNB 520 mAh and 600 mAh. With my style of flying, I get from 5 to 7 + minutes depending on the batteries. Even though I fly a lot, I don't land well; a good landing for me is one that doesn't break anything and I can easily retrieve. I crash or land hard basically all the time. This quad has been super durable. Nothing has broken. I have a flight video on TH-cam under "Harry T Murphy". Thanks.

@@NickBurnsFPV Additional info that I didn't think was appropriate for that review comment. Beyond buying GEPRC Phantom BNF (you can't build it for what it costs). I love the frame, especially the base plate; better than the toothpick type frame because of the flexibility; the extra mounting surface area and the ability to place the camera forward rather than on top of the stack. I also like the 3 column connection method which keeps the rear out of the props. Presently, I have three builds using this frame. Thanks. Harry

Good review as always Nick. I watch all of these, even for products I would not buy. I have learned a lot of tid bits and tricks this way.
I have been burned by GepRC , I will never buy one of their products. It was probably just bad luck, but my back and forth with the service department let me know that is not a company I will ever support or buy from.Plain and simple, they don't back their products. If it burns up when you buy it, they want you to fix it, and pay to ship the parts. Basically no warranty.
They make a good product, but good luck if it doesn't work out of the box.

For anyone wondering, I get the same weight with those batteries, but 2s has waaay less pop and feels lax in turns. I have this frame built up with Diatone mamba 16x16 stack running Rcinpower 1204's on the Avans and 450 3s and love it so much that I had to buy 4 bottom plates because the arms break easily for me. I don't know why but this combo is perfect for my style of freestyle, a little slower than you but more flowy. I saw your review on the Rcinpowers and have to disagree about the efficiency but that may be because i'm not pegged on the throttle most of the time. I am getting about 3.5 - 4 min on the the 450's. I have 2 phantoms, well 1 3/4.... The first came with a bad RX. Fail safed and damaged a motor. Replaced the motor and rx after waiting 6 weeks. To only find out that the plug between the FC and ESC had pulled from the board. Make sure to tighten up the stack screws, both of the ones I got were very loose! I ordered the esc and a second phantom. The esc was going to be another 6 weeks. The second phantom I got in 4 days. The second phantom had a bad rx and a bad camera. I swapped parts and now have a good flying phantom. Also the stand offs strip easy,, put a longer screw in, the ones from geprc are to short in my opinion. This all happen shortly after it was released. So time has gone by and parts are more available. I might have bad luck as well. But I love it nevertheless! I have been running 3S 300mah. I get 3 plus minutes. But I'm not a aggressive flyer. I will give the 450 a try. Nice review as always Nick!

Thanks for the review and sharing your experience with the Phantom! I do prefer the Avan Rush 2.5 props myself, as I favor the locked in turn handling even more than the slight top end perf increase. The only thing I would like more from this quad was if it could record HD at no cost to performance, but that's unlikely as the extra weight would tank the performance too much. Perfect park flier and very quiet, won't bother anyone.

I haven't seen those white flashes in DVR since upgrading from Aomway Commander v1, is that something you see in the goggles while flying? I haven't tried this specific one, but I keep going back the the original 65mm bi-blade toothpicks with bottom side-mounted 450mah 2s. Lowering the weight to 75mm and having most of it as close to the cg is definitely a big deal in these micros.

First, I absolutely love my GepRC Phantom. I did attach a VIFLY self powered buzzer which I consider a necessity. I put a piece of non-slip pad on the battery and zip tied it to the tail. It is firm, holds the RX antennas in place and I can easily reach the button. I changed the Vtx antenna to an iFlight omni with a matching one on my goggles. The capacitor on mine is a 330 uf 25 volt. I added a soft non-slip battery pad and dog bone landing pads. Didn't like the stock props, so the first thing I did was change to HQProp T65mm 2.5 inch bi-blades. These are great props. I run 2 1S 600 mAh GNB batteries and consistently get over 7 minutes of fly time. Even though I crash a lot, I have not yet broken anything; not even a prop. Although I like the HQProps, I have just switched to the Avan Rush 2.5 inch tri-blade props which I will try as soon as we get "unleashed' from the coronavirus "stay-at-home" order.

    • @heroflying
      @heroflying 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Harry T Murphy I love vifly buzzers but I would not recommend putting one on this quad. It’s already a bit heavy as is, and the ViFly is an additional 5g on a 70ish gram quad. It significantly would reduce the flight handling of it IMO.

    • @harrytmurphy8438
      @harrytmurphy8438 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@heroflying HeroPsycho, I realize that the ViFly buzzer adds weight, but that is not my primary concern; need to be able to find it when it goes down. I live in FL and the vegetation is murderous. I am an easy cruiser and am getting over 7 minutes of fly time on 600 mAh batteries which is pretty good. I have flown this configuration for months and am satisfied with the performance. My TH Freestyle is lighter so I use it for stunt flying.

I like the frame but DO NOT use it for a whoop diamond mount board. The mounting holes on the left and right of the quad, the carbon around the holes will crack open easy. For 16x16 stacks it’s a good frame. Nick’s battery choice is spot on. Use the normal ummagrip on the top to hold your batteries. The lite ummagrip is too thin to keep the screw heads from pressing into the battery. Toss the TPU mount and straws. It spins around the standoff and is too heavy anyway. Zip tie your RX antennas to the arms and heat shrink them instead. HQ props are great! Gemfan are just ok. It’s a good quad. 16x16 stacks are economical if you blow something compared to whoop AIO boards. Pop an ESC? $15 to replace the ESC board, not $40 for an AIO board.

I'm am currently building a 2.5" 2-4s on the phantom frame. The specs so far are succex 16x16 aio stack, geprc 1204 motors, rush 2.5 props and the runcam nano 3. @NickBurnsFPV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

For bind and fly quads such as this phantom I don't make pid tune changes, unless the pid tune is pretty poor. The flight in this video is stock pid tune from geprc. Running BF defaults as a goal is difficult for me to judge, as its very very rare any of my builds (micros) don't require customization. I can't remember a micro I built that didn't require a custom pid tune. One tip I suggest is to use the phantom hd frame. Its thicker and I have been hearing others breaking the frame on the stock phantom.

Nice review, just wondering why you said 220uF is low for 35V ?
Capacitors come in all voltage ranges, and the uF rating is how much energy they store. It is not connected to each other.
So 12V 220uF or 35V 220uF or 1000V 220uF: all of these variants would store the same energy on this quad (the lipo charges them).

      @@NickBurnsFPV I understand.
The reason might be against voltage spikes (though that would only help when polarity matches).
Another youtuber said he noticed such effects, I'd need to put a scope up to verify that.
