  • Check out this rare footage of the University of Cincinnati's celebration of the 1960-61 National Basketball Championship inside the Armory Fieldhouse on campus. Special thanks to Mike Simpson, Bus '63, who shot this in 8MM and sent it along for UC Magazine to share. Every player on the team appears in the video with the exception of starter Bob Wiesenhahn, who led the Bearcats in scoring to defeat Ohio State, 70-65. Also missing is assistant coach Tay Baker. As the oldest son of Paul Hogue from Knoxville TN, I appreciate this footage because basketball was my love. I didn't live with my father, not a negative situation, but I was not exposed to memorbilia from his college and pro basketball career.

I was not even 2 when this occurred. My father told me many stories about this and the following year’s team. Thanks for allowing me to share in a once in a lifetime experience for the Bearcats. Let’s do it again!

Bob Wiesenhahn was not there because he was practicing for the East West All Star game in Kansas City the next day. They won and he had 17 points just as he did against John Havlicek in the Championship game.

I just found this video. Was hoping that my dad, Mel landfried would have been in the tape. I was born in 62 and my dad died when I was 9. I continue to search for anything I can find.

Cool video. I love the old school fight songs.
