1966 NCAA Championship. The first men's team to win it in the state of Texas! More of this great game. I have the full game and it's documentary, but TH-cam has blocked it!
last night, i watched 2 great films about black's life.. The birth of nation and Glory road (3rd time i watched this movie) and i still feel the same impression.... Simply amazing...
This tournament might have taken a different direction if freshmen were allowed to play. UCLA had a rare mediocre season that year but their freshmen team led by Lew Alcindor and Lucius Allen was incredible and handily beat the varsity team in a scrimmage game. It would not have been unreasonable to think that Alcindor, as a freshman, would have led them to the tournament title that year. Once those players were eligible to play as sophomores, UCLA had an undefeated season in 66-67. Congratulations to Texas Western for winning that tournament.
Dunking was banned in the NCAA from 1967 to 1976. Many people have attributed this to the dominance of the then-college phenomenon Lew Alcindor (now known as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar); the no-dunking rule is sometimes referred to as the "Lew Alcindor rule. Many others have also attributed the ban as having racial motivations, as at the time most of the prominent dunkers in college basketball were African-American, and the ban took place less than a year after a Texas Western team with an all-black starting lineup beat an all-white Kentucky team to win the national championship.
glory road had a huge impact on me as a player on and off court, rip to the great players and coaches on this team who are no longer with us, and lattin stay reppin Htown, he went to the school district right next to myn, HISD
Read the book which I did. The movie distorted and played loose with the facts and in some cases created events that did not take place. Both teams deserved to be in the finals but both lacked size and were more representative of teams in the past and not of teams in the future for example next year's champion Lew alcindor and the UCLA Bruins
Bobby Joe Hill is my grandad and most of the events in glory road are inaccurate like Nevil shed was not beat up in a bathroom and Texas western didn't lose because of bad team work they lost due to racist refs
I showed this 2 my grandpa and he totally remembers watching this!!!!!!! He got a little teary cuz he said it felt like it just happened yesterday lol..
Sam Daniell just think what if the refs didn't make bogus call like traveling ( after a play takes 2 steps off a pass or not call fouls for putting your body between the man and the ball, also legal, it would have been a blow out they couldn't set picks because the refs would call foul, they played against the the refs and the announcer and still dog them
Texas... it was an epic years for them. 24W 1L in season and champion at least 7blacks players VS all white players for Kentucky.... i advise u to watch the movie "GLORY ROAD" a great and epic tribute to all thoses players who rised up this team

glory road had a huge impact on me as a player on and off court, rip to the great players and coaches on this team who are no longer with us, and lattin stay reppin Htown, he went to the school district right next to myn, HISD
Dunking was banned in the NCAA from 1967 to 1976 due largely to the dominance of the dunkers playing for Texas
R.I.P. Orsten Artis
