I have own Toyota Landcrusier 120 3.0 Diesel 2005 for almost 5 years now. He has 383000km on clock and is running well. I use Diesel Fuel System Cleaner | Redex in every tank. I used to own Pajero and there was problem with the engine, very common with Pajero. I ask the dealership for Pajero and they said that this problem was not fixed until 2015. I Definitely recommend Toyota Landcrusier 120 3.0 Diesel

Great description of the potential problems but I think the cracked piston risk is being a little overstated, at least in Australia. The failure rates are very low here and these engines are very popular in the Hilux and Prado and many people do lots of towing in hot weather with these engines. The biggest cause of cracked pistons seems to be over fueling due to worn injectors or bad tunes. Mind you, in Australia you will lose your license on the spot for doing 160km/h and there is only one place you can do 100km/h so high speed driving for long periods doesn’t happen much at all. All up, I wouldn’t let this minor risk put you off the car, just make sure it is not damaged when you get it and replace those injectors probably every 150,000kms.

My injectors had 320.000 km and where like brand new. Maybe the previous owner did it(bought it with 220.000 km), but I changed them at 320k and sold it at 340k for a 100 serie V8 petrol.
    Other problems:
    - Often the turbo leaks oil in this car what can get worse over time
    - Seats are worn quickly
    - Engine mounts are vacuum driven and when broken can give an annoing resonance through the car
    - Wheelbearings are a pain in the *ss to do
    - Brakepads are worn fast
    - If the radiatior fails the coolant can mix with the transmission oil which means a new transmission.
    - Light bulbs of the dash buttons will fail and are quiet expensive (for bulbs) but replaceble with some work
Overall loved mine and never had a problem. If there wasn't those annoing diesel emmision taxes etc. I would never get rid of it.

    • @gregormenga2166

you never had a problem but listed few of them. Is this just theory or reality. I had a 2001 with who knows how many miles in it and run smoothly without complains summer or winter. The only problem I ever had was the automatic transmission (four speed) would get overheated if driven to slowly uphill.

    • @The_Touring_Jedi
      @The_Touring_Jedi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Frame rust can be prevented. There is a lot good rust protection to be used. I just bought Kline rust protection and finish with Dinitrol 4942 which is used for protection for military vehicles in Europe. Dinitrol 4942 is for the hard offroad use it is special elastic wax basis which stands good against small stones hitting underbody while driving. Anyway it prevents further spread around frame. I think almost every off road SUV have issues with rust after some time. Most of the people when buy new does not protect extra frame and underbody against rust which after some time leads to spread.

the 2004 have a different piston design
according to various sources this is a much stronger piston design which is not affected with this particular well known cracking issue
But can it crack? Well yes - any piston can crack/get damaged/burnt because of a faulty injector. But the chance that your piston in your 2004 cracks is VERY VERY SMALL (its the same as on other common rail diesel engines which are not known for piston cracks).
So don't worry about this issue, just pay attention to the faulty injector symptoms, and to the oil pickup strainer.
you can buy genuine injectors directly from Toyota

That's why it's better to stay away from Toyota Diesel engines and buy Petrol ones, as Toyota Petrol engines are the ones that made the brand popular for its reliability. I'm in Australia and almost all Toyota 4WD new engines (LC, LC Prado, Hilux, Fortuner) are Diesels, so I purchased a FJ cruiser which has the 4 litre petrol engine. The one produced after 2010 is almost trouble free and will most likely see +500k kms.

I have V6 120 year 2005 with 5 gear and full spec including compass in the middle and Navigation. I heard they could have issue with headgasket but I also read that models with 4 gear early production until 2004 could have this issue. I should pressure test my system to see ig any leak. Anyway 215k and running like charm.

because its a Toyota and because you can't really find a better built similar off road car with a proper ladder frame like this, these cars are really really well built, but they can have their own issues

Prado 120 in Europe is around 15-20k euros with average of 200.000km. I have bought mine V6 petrol full spec with 213k for 15k. They are expensive but with A-trac system for offroad and ladder frame excellent choice for off road and also long trips. Weakness is that a frame can rust. Mine have some rust but nothing serious. Protecting that frame and rear axle against rust is good investment. If you want power take V6, consumption is an issue but comparing to diesel it take on average 3 liters more. Diesel is around 11.5 liters and petrol is around 13.5. If you don't make over 10-15k per year take petrol, if you drive over 25 k per year buy diesel. Diesel don't like short trips it kills the engine and petrol have no issues. If you go for V6 then models with 5 gear auto after 2005.

persze sok szempontbol jó meg fasza a bódé + viszonylag primitív könnyen javíthato is, de nagyon meg kell gondolni, hogy igazábol meg-e éri az árát
