      Gotta agree. It's always tough to pick favorites but the ABB are my all time favorite. Live at the Fillmore East the greatest live record of all time. I was lucky enough to see Duane play before he died. That means I'm old but happy. ✌

    Didn't know Dickie played slide, let alone so well. They were a great great band, so sad we lost Duane, Berry, Dickie and Gregg, they were huge talents.

  • @njabbfan
    @njabbfan 9 ปีที่แล้ว +66

    Dickey on slide. He played slide after Duane passed. He said he hated to play slide because he had to play the way Duane played and he felt that held him back in his playing. But he sure played slide well.

    • @malbuff
      @malbuff 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +njabbfan Maybe on the slide solos he was a little restrained, but listen to him swing that slide guitar during Chuck's solo. Sweet stuff.

      +njabbfan Well looks like he is using the same Coricidin bottle that Gregg gave Duane one time when he was sick! Not tooo bad!

    • @robertwoodward829

      +njabbfan Yes he played a conventional slide like most. But make no mistake. Him or anyone else, can't play the slide like Duane did. Even to this day, no one can hit his licks!

    Whoever gave this a thumbs-down doesn't know music. This is one of my favorite Greg renditions of this song, he totally rocks it. Funny, he seems so shy, especially here. He keeps his eyes shut a lot and doesn't really look at the audience. It's amazing how that voice comes out of someone so young.

    I had a connection to band and used to get in free to concerts, best seats. I'm getting back into their music via YT and it's fun to watch the "reaction" videos on here where young people listen to 70's music and are blown away. ABB is a real favorite with that group. Try looking at Patrol Gaming's site, he listens to Whipping Post for the first time and is amazed.

      This is recorded 1973...a little less than a year after Duane's tragic death. Dickey didn't play slide...he liked to play on an acoustic like the old blues fellows...but, like you said, the show called for it. HE NEVER, EVER, according to Gregg, played slide on an electric guitar. Apparently it is very different. They were flying from coast to coast, 3000 miles and about 5-6 hours....Gregg said Dickey picked up and electric guitar and started to mess around with the slide...by the time that plane landed...this is what you hear. Gregg was awe struck...he said it was just amazing how focused Betts was...so, not bad at all for his first go at it....Also, NO BODY EVER will be a Duane....that is just not gonna happen....lt is not big deal but it is Dickey.

      judy Girl in every single classic rock videos there are these ”bitter knowitalls” complaining that someone writes barry instead of berry or dwayne instead of duane... give it a break. please.

      @@RagshoreJoseph No. You spell their names wrong if you want to.. If that guy can call them all 'tore,' and we know what that means, I can pick on his spelling. I mean, c'mon, the names are right above him. I am not a know it all, it just amazes me how illiterate people are these days...also, I edit for a living. I have more than my fair share of typos...but, if I am gonna slam a person, I better know how to spell their name...or, I will be there to correct them. I don't call anyone names...I don't want anyone calling Gregg and the guys names...They accomplished so much and their assets far out weigh their faults. There are a ton of mistakes in this paragraph...but, I know how to spell GREGG! I am not stopping,, I wish you would join me.

      @@RagshoreJoseph I am not bitter either. Don't be a name caller...I see your comments and you're an intelligent person...I am on the right side...if a person is gonna point a finger, well, they are open game...join me, don't fight me.
