You know i never fully processed it, but the second Ip Man movie shows this to a degree. The first student shows up and brings his buddies, then it shows a montage of new students showing up with a nod to the first with a smile, and it shows him hanging up posters. The movie kind of glosses over it and I never fully appreciated the difference one dedicated person can truly make. Thank you for putting a spotlight on this 😁👍

Ironically the movie doesn’t portray Leung Sheung. It portrays Wong Shun Leung (character “Wong Leung”) as Ip Man’s first student simply because he’s the most famous. I don’t know why they did that, but they did. Look it up.

As much as I have learned about training and preparation for Wing Chun from you videos in recent months, this may be your best Sifu Adam. Thank you! 🙏

A very accurate account of Leung Sheung. He was Tsui Sheung Tin’s ( Chu Shong Tin ) first instructor in Ip’s school. And was held in very high regard . He died too early.

Thank you for sharing information with the rest of the world about one of Yip Man's very important and highly skilled todais (disciple). I personally know the story of Leung Sheung but not as intimately as perhaps Sifu Kenneth Chung. Those who endeavor to learn this great art should also learn the art's history and players past & present. There is much mystery in this art but it is only mystery for those who are not well informed. There are an elite few compared to the 100's of thousands or Wing Chun practioners that are exceptional in their Wing Chun abilities in application and life. I suggest for those who are truly interested to find yourself a good sifu, as a good sifu will not come looking for you.

I'm not sure that I ever knew those interesting and very necessary facts about Leung Sheung.
Thanks so much Sifu, for creating this video and sharing that great information.
And regarding the comment below, I never really thought about that in the movie but I suppose that's probably who that young man was representing,.. just so very cool!

Hello, Adam, I do not know from where did you obtain all these information but I must say this is probably the most objective and factual account of Mr. Leung Sheung, This is quite impressive - especially considering the fact that you are a foreigner. Yes, Leung Sheung has always been a low-profile and humble man and his contribution to the perpetuation and propagation of Wing Chun is grossly understated. As a matter of fact, there were also a few others from the very first batch of Ip Man's students that many people did not know but were nevertheless fearsome Wing Chun masters and contributed greatly to the wide recognition of Wing Chun in Hong Kong in those early days.

Thank you for sharing this. If you want to touch hands with someone who is probably the closest to how it must have felt with Leung Sheung, hands down, it would be Kenneth Chung from San Jose.

The whole thing about Yip having no succesor...
Well, back then Leung Sheung was his most senior student, so he WAS the succesor. Just because he died early is where the trouble started. Same with Ip Bo Ching. He's the guy always seen in a suit sitting next to Yip in those old pictures. These where the guys. Ng Chung So shares a similar story.

How great of a teacher do you think Yip Man was? And was he a better teacher than any of his students. To my mind he was better than them all at teaching simply because of how many apparent greats he taught. I think I’m correct in saying not one individual student of his produced the number of high calibre students that Yip Man did. Any thoughts?

    • @sifuadamwilliss
      @sifuadamwilliss  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

That’s an interesting line of thinking. It’s hard for me to say one way or another. Leung Sheung didn’t live nearly as long as Yip Man so didn’t get the same chance .

    Hi Adam
How the hell you dug up this piece of information? I am in shock like hell. I learned with Leung
Sheung in 1968 at his place at no.12 Tai Ping Do (Peace Lane) in Kowloon, Ho Man Tin, Hong Kong. He was the no.1 student (King of Bil Jee)of Yip Man, no. 2 in Tsui Sheung Tin(King of Chum Kiu) and no.3 was Lok Yiu (King of Siu Nim Tau). All the fighting or competitions of Ip Man were taken care of by his 3 students, he didn't even have to move his pinky.
Leung Sheung,s form is the best and most authentic. He was modest and low profile, he taught us to apply the Wing Tsun theory in our everyday life. I couldn't have said enough about him. I missed him. Thanks again Mr. Wikkiss.

And Yip Man was furious about Leung Sheung and stopped teaching him when he found out that he had visited Sum Nung, Yuen Kay San's student.
