I didn't even know this program had content-aware. Good to find this out! Thanks.
Happy to help!
I tried content aware cropping in a very similar way, to create 8x10 dimensions. I generally shoot in studio with muslin and solid color paper backgrounds. Unfortunately, when the program fills in the areas, the results are blocky, like big pixelated areas and the results are unusable. Very disappointing since I crop most pictures. I hope future versions of this feature work better because it's causing me a lot of extra time to get decent cropped images. If you have suggestions on how to get better results, that would be helpful. Otherwise, count me very disappointed in this feature.
I just tested out a gray muslin and had very good results. I then tested out a shoot that we used a pink roll of paper and that just gave ok results. I would have to retouch some of the new pink background to make it look good. ON1 is good about improving their software so hopefully Content Aware Cropping keeps getting better.
@TomCheswick thanks for checking it out. I've tried it on a Mac and PC with various backgrounds (mudlin, paper etc. ) and it 99% of the time gives unusable results that have to be worked a lot, to be usable. I agree with you, I hope they improve the feature. I bring it up to hopefully draw attention to the fact that it's unusable as it currently is. That's the only way the company will know that the feature is woefully bad and unusable.
