This is what saying no to drugs, cigs and alcohol does for a singer as they age. She took excellent care of her instrument. Patti Labelle was another who did as well she was singing folks down well into her 60s without any vocal decline. She lost some of her power but Patti still killing the soprano. Chante is so gifted!

There are a few reasons why some singers hold their ear. For me, anytime I did it, I held my ear because my right ear is little more sensitive to high notes

She’s not nearly as high as Mariah gets. Because Chanté’s a coloratura soprano people tend to think her whistles are much higher than they actually are. Mariah’s highest whistles are an entire octave above Chanté’s. That’s why she plugs an ear to act as an internal monitor. It’s much harder to go from a dramatic soprano full voice to a light, airy whistle with hardly a break in between.
Love her but lots of times her whistles tones have too much forced air so they don’t sound as clean and crisp.
she can sing and definetly an icon, but that was a bold move singing this song and i think she should have passed.
