I told them I was about to leave but said I would wait if they were quick. They promised me 3 minutes max... They were still trying to fit bits and pieces into their car a whole thirty minutes later. They had just finished by this point but instead of moving, leaned against their car, congratulating one another with hi-fives. My garage exits onto a narrow (no lane marking cars can pass with care) lane way and I only have about a fender length of "driveway" and about a car length before the intersection at my end. I make the effort to park tail in as it's much easier to see if you drive out forwards - and my car isn't especially long (small sedan).

It's a 2 car driveway and the hatch is parked towards the center. If the driver of suv only ever uses the driver mirror to reverse from drive and that was the first time the hatch had been parked there, then it's real easy to do.

I use google streetview if it looks like a really tricky junction on an unknown journey.... until I don't have time etc. On a really big or complicated roundabout it can end up a bit of a shit show!
The license assessors need to be more strict. if you don't pass the first 10 times, maybe you shouldn't be driving at all. If you can't pass the test, you aren't competent to drive. Also should have to do an online refresher course if the cops catch you breaking the traffic laws.

Not a Melbournian here... what's the purpose of the traffic lights if not to control traffic going into the roundabout? It's not a pedestrian crossing. Having traffic lights immediately in front of a give way sign seems like trouble as drivers could believe the lights going off red meant cross-traffic was stopped.

It's pretty simple really - you're entering a roundabout and have to give way to your right. The two roundabouts you mention are great skill-testers. I actually taught a friend to drive in this area, it's great for learning how to negotiate complex intersections.

EDIT: DC driver can, as @lessstockley4937 has said, take the first three exits. (There is a sign further down the entry road showing this.) Anyone entering a roundabout must not assume what other drivers are doing. If there is a risk of collision, you must give way before entering
from the left lane their the DC can take any of the first 3 exits, they took the 3rd. You need to find it on street view and look at the signs prior to the entry.

However, it depends on the signs before the roundabout is entered. That’s why I asked about this particular roundabout as I don’t know where it is. Where there is no sign post on a dual lane roundabout entry, the left lane vehicle cannot exit left past the 12 noon position. Re giving way: obviously silver dual cab is at fault, for sure and should have ensured the vehicle already on the roundabout had right of way. As they say, Assuming makes an Ass out of you and me. Thanks for the feedback. Curious to know this location so I can look it up on Google maps and do street view.

Lol, I've got a dashcam video on the freeway near Ballarat (which I've only been near twice in my life) that I haven't sent in yet. Dude undertakes and cuts in front of me super close. When I beep a little he goes ballistic out the window. Gave me an impression of Ballarat residents I won't forget.

Took me a while for the 2 clips starting at 6:04 . Found it was in the sky, both those drivers are flops, the ENTIRE highway is empty and they still sit in the outside lane, then the 2nd driver is slowing down to 80kmh for something in the sky.

It's a 2 car driveway and the hatch is parked towards the center. If the driver of suv only ever uses the driver mirror to reverse from drive and that was the first time the hatch had been parked there, then it's real easy to do.

They've got to have part of every driving test where they must correctly turn right at a double-lane roundabout. That would fail at least 10% of drivers.
What do people do when not knowing the exact exit until seeing the sign? Those occasions do still occur right? I use google streetview if it looks like a really tricky junction on an unknown journey.... until I don't have time etc.
On a really big or complicated roundabout it can end up a bit of a shit show!
The license assessors need to be more strict. if you don't pass the first 10 times, maybe you shouldn't be driving at all. If you can't pass the test, you aren't competent to drive. Also should have to do an online refresher course if the cops catch you breaking the traffic laws.

The guy in the left lane was indicating right. He did nothing wrong. You have to ensure your exit is clear to take on a round about, the guy in the right lane was in the wrong. Check your highway code/ rules of the road if you don’t believe me.

That intersection was laid out when cars moved a lot slower, and people were taught to drive. The lack of skills by most motorists these days is as equally responsible for accidents there as the design is.
Not a Melbournian here... what's the purpose of the traffic lights if not to control traffic going into the roundabout? It's not a pedestrian crossing.
Having traffic lights immediately in front of a give way sign seems like trouble as drivers could believe the lights going off red meant cross-traffic was stopped.

It's pretty simple really - you're entering a roundabout and have to give way to your right. The two roundabouts you mention are great skill-testers. I actually taught a friend to drive in this area, it's great for learning how to negotiate complex intersections.

Clip at 4:00 - that's a fairly dangerous intersection at that time of day (Kerr/River Streets, Ballina NSW)... that western setting sun is terrible to see through. Mind you, that car was going way too fast for the driving conditions!
5:20 there is a van stopped at a no stopping on the left, this is very common around the area and it prevents drivers from seeing traffic. Council stop add in islands to stop these bums
their left indicator is on as are their brake lights, they are not parked, they are waiting for that car to come out so they can enter the lane. Car is probably sitting in the middle of the road instead of keeping left enough for the van to turn.

In an earlier thread someone said the number plates don't match the car model, so was definitely a stolen car trying to do a runner.
Speaking as a motorcyclist, there's a fair few of us on here this week but none of them will be motorcyclists for too much longer if they keep it up. You can ride fast for a short time or safely for a long time, but you can't ride that fast for long.
Do they just not have a driving test anymore? I swear the IQ of these drivers has gone below room temperature.
Here in Queensland they pass you if you just turn up.

EDIT: DC driver can, as @lessstockley4937 has said, take the first three exits. (There is a sign further down the entry road showing this.)
Anyone entering a roundabout must not assume what other drivers are doing. If there is a risk of collision, you must give way before entering
from the left lane their the DC can take any of the first 3 exits, they took the 3rd. You need to find it on street view and look at the signs prior to the entry.

Normally, if (in the left lane) the left exit on a roundabout in AUSTRALIA can be taken if equal to 12 noon position or less than the 6 o’clock position entered.
However, it depends on the signs before the roundabout is entered.
That’s why I asked about this particular roundabout as I don’t know where it is.
Where there is no sign post on a dual lane roundabout entry, the left lane vehicle cannot exit left past the 12 noon position.
Re giving way: obviously silver dual cab is at fault, for sure and should have ensured the vehicle already on the roundabout had right of way. As they say, Assuming makes an Ass out of you and me.

@@martinlang9615 look up Walker Street and Cessnock Road intersection, or Greencross Vets Maitland, that will give you the roundabout. Back up down Les Darcy Drive about 200m prior to the roundabout and you'll see the sign showing which lanes can take which exits.

I'm always amazed by some of the camera cars on this page. The driver is waiting with hand on horn, instead of foot on brake. They regularly make a situation worse just for the opportunity to beep or swear. I've got one in my car, but I've never had anything to submit, because I react in time and predict movement. A lot of these people are really oblivious, careless and also responsible for their accidentsor near misses.

No, it looks like the 4WD in the left lane was adjusting it's speed based on the car in front in the middle lane to achieve a zipper merge. Yes, it was merging slightly prematurely but the commodore(?) should have been preparing to merge behind the 4WD. Seems like he was just pissed off at having to give way and then behaves like a lunatic. Precious petal syndrome.
@@wandpj Yes, the 4wd "merged" while there was still a broken line between the lanes - which makes it a lane change, not a zipper merge. The 4wd, therefore, should have given way to the sedan. (What the sedan driver did then was stupid, but the 4 wd failed to give way first.)
