when i was a teenager, two perfumes were standing and i though they smell strange and totally different when my father wear. never knew what those scents until i went to check my self in my dad locker. Terre d'Hermes and M7 YSL that discontinued, after years i decided to take a shot and buy Hermes, i remember in a winder day in my room spraying this perfume i just went speechless for an hour just random pictures pooped in my mind i was confused, chocked in a Good way like drowning in that punchy notes. Then it goes away then it hit back again like you described it. I believe its something magical, sometimes you though its just two strong notes and then you can't imagine how those smells deliver other feelings and open another dimention for other smells to hit you. Simply will spell you.

This is some of the most passionate I've seen you talk Eugene, I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on Terre, especially since it seems to be so abstract (at least to me). One way I could describe it is, it starts sharp, bringing to mind an object with sharp corners, and then it mellows down to something smooth, something shaped like a cloud. And funnily enough, way down into the drydown I pick again some of that sharpness of the opening, so I guess for me it comes full circle. I also think the concentration on this one is just perfect, it doesn't overwhelm you and it doesn't just dissappear before you have time to want more. I gifted my bottle to my dad, I really need to buy another for myself.

I think JCE is more about sophistication rather than minimalism, in that he simplifies things but it's refined to such a high level that you have to look at the subtleties to find the care that went in. Kind of like looking at an A Lange and Sohne watch movement. You need to have a magnifying glass to see the little details on the tiny pieces

I just recently picked up the Pure Parfume and I'm really excited about this Juice. It doesn't have as many Notes listed as The EDT but, to me it's very complex. I LOVE it and I have a lot of Fragrances but, this one is a sure HIT in The Collection and will for a long time coming too. I went on and got the 200ML Bottle and I'm glad I did, I've got plenty of LOVE FOR IT and My Wife LOVESITAS WELL.........Thanks for the Video Brother and take care out there. 🤝🏾🇺🇸💪🏾

Coming back to this review for the second time and like the explanation of the perfume..I'm finding more and more things I'm hearing i didn't get the first time I watched it..a very complex review a lot like the fragrance itself..what i get out of this perfume is burnt orange with earthy vetiver and like a birch wood vibe "that you get in Givenchy Gentlemen" even though birch wood isn't a note in this fragrance..your spot on Eugene this is a very complex fragrance which for a designer fragrance makes me respect it even more..

I like to check in with TdH every so often and see where I'm at with it cuz I've never been so up and down and all around on a fragrance. The first time I smelled it I hated it, it reminded me of something a rich, womanizing sociopath might wear. Threw my sample away. But damned if I didn't have an urge to go back to it, and when I did, I realized it was actually very nuanced and delicate, not nearly the high end personality-less brute I mistook it for originally. Wore the hell out of it for a few months, but then something about it started to turn my stomach so I put it aside. Nowadays when I wear it it's a 50/50 chance whether I'll enjoy it or regret spraying it on. I love the flintiness and I do get a distinct floral presence that people don't generally mention, though you did and that's why I love you dawg!

  • @steliosc.4686

I do agree. This is not a vetiver fragrance. But what a masterpiece this is. I slightly prefer the Edp and this is close 2nd. They basically dry down the same. Also to my nose the Intense Vetiver one has similarities with Bel Ami. Its half Terre D Hermes and half Bel Ami. My least favourite is the Fraiche one. I actually gave my bottle away. Nice video Eugene.

Thanks for your rewiew. I have been using this perfume for the last ten years. And this wasn't my first perfume bytheway. But, ever since I started using this perfume, I delved more into comparing tere de hermes with other perfumes just to figure out what makes it different from the other one's I tried?
I am still searching for the one that can smell so classy and different from what I have tried so far. May be never, because signature is difficult to change and It's my signature perfume.

With respect to reformulation, the current one still holds up. My much older bottle had ‘tree mosses and oak moss’ on the ingredients list - they stopped printing that after some time. Also, Guerlain’s Homme L’eau Boisee reminds me of TdH to the point I consider it an unintended flanker 😄

Wow! I just want to start by saying that I have been following you for some time now and have been catching up on your previous reviews/takes on perfume. You convinced me to write and basically to thank you for doing justice to this perfume. Your take on this might have been your best review/perfume related video to date in my opinion. I honestly don't think if the JCE himself would have been able to describe it in such a way that you fully understand what this perfume is and trying to make you feel. I learned a lot from you today, have been learning and will continue to do so in future as well. Really really appreciate it. Amazing job.

Sometimes it just smells like and old cedar closet like the one in my basement growing up in my parents house. It takes me back to my childhood becuase of that which is awsome. It's just so well mixed it smells like one scent sometimes it changes alot. If I wear it to much it does get alittle sickening after awhile. And not everyone around me likes it. My kids hate it my wife doesn't like it but a few girls at work love it. So it's not for everyone but it is a classic that I just don't wear unless I want that memory of growing up.

I've been thinking about the idea that Eau des Merveilles and Terre d'Hermes are indeed marketed for the same purpose and with a similar scent profile lately. It's almost as if TdH is the men's counterpart to EdM. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that.

Though I am back and forth on whether I like the original Terre, I have to say I am intrigued about Eau Tres Fraiche. Does ETF have a sufficient dose of cumin/other body odor spices to backbone the citrus? Is it different enough from the original TdH and from something like Declaration, both of which I already own? I know ETF has been compared to Bigarade Concentree but I've yet to smell that one.

A fresh citrus that turns into pepper and benzoin and lasts forever who can say no to that.

Terre used to be an excellent foresty scent before reformulation killed it.Even vintage batches can't compete with Guerlain's Arsene Lupin though. Also, the deeper you go into it and understand it..the more the ISO e super annoys you.
A nice trick with this is add a 30% guerlain vetiver on it and make it more vetiver dominant and smokier.3 sprays TDH 1 spray GV.

For some reason I've not delved into hermes yet and I don't know why I always skip them over.
Appreciate your thoughts on this one.

For me, this is the fragrance that genuinely stopped me in my tracks. Like other fragrances, the peak of my interest i'd say ''wow this smells amazing'', but with this one it's just a different ball game. Definitely test it out, be patient with dry down and you'll know what I'm talking about. This, for me is a scent that feels like a dream honestly xD

This & Encre noire are the reason why i disappeared down the fragrance rabbit hole & i love them dearly. If perfumers were artists then ellena would be monet - pale water colours and deft, light brush strokes. I have since replaced encre noire with sycomore but their is no way i can replace TDH. The word masterpiece is used a lot in perfumery but in this case it’s truly warranted. Jean claude must have done the perfumers equivalent of the mic drop on completing it.

I'm huge fan of Terre d'hermes edt. I've 2014 bottle and 2017 bottle and I recently purchased 200ml new formulation with small white horse made on front down of the box. My 2017 bottle has 8FA batch code and my recent bottle has 01046 batch code, when I search my new bottle code on checkfresh.com it shows 2020/09 manufacturing date but its still 2020/08 and when I try the same batch code in checkcosmetic, the site says Specified code is not supported, or is not correct. Help me please... is it fake or genuine? How could it show 2020 September manufacturing date when it is still 2020 August?

That's interesting. So do you smell any noticable differences between the 2014, 2017 and the 2020 version?

Idk I'm hesitant to try out this product because I'm afraid it's too unisex or that it smells like an old man's cologne that's been sitting on their dresser for 10 years. Please tell me isn't an old man's fragrance but a fresh, sophisticated, contemporary fragrance for a man in his early forties.

TERRE D' HERMES EDP - from love to hate. Too simple (in bad way), too flat, too linear. Maybe EDT is better?
