INCREDIBLE album. The instrumental in The Darkest Part resonates so much with me, I tear up listening to it. The music literally makes me cry. Not that it sounds sad, I can’t explain it. A lot of his beats have that effect on me. Like a lot of Kanye’s did. It’s like every emotion possible happening at the same time. Beautiful emotional confusion. It’s what I always hope to find in a project. It’s super rare but damn…Danger Mouse is special. Thought is too. He’s been my favorite MC for a long time. I truly appreciate this album. It’ll stick with me forever. I wonder if artists know just how much certain people get from what they create.
Great interview! Y'all gave both artists the right questions to explore their own process and influences in making the album. I'm especially grateful for the last question to Danger Mouse about drum artists. I'll have to check out the first 2 but as a Tame Impala fan, when he said Kevin Parker, my ears lit up. Danger Mouse will continue to collaborate with great artists like Black Thought and that sort of list is a testament to his love of sound and music and rhythm.

Incredible album, love the distorted production from Danger Mouse, mixed in with that dusty basement type style of production with a Vinyl type sound on the ears, also mixed in with charming and warm soul samples, Black Thought just rapping ferociously and displaying a real spiritual and deep minded style of lyricism, the way the album opens up is perfect, it has a sort of triumphant and turned all the way up Soul sample on the track "Sometimes" , just under 40 minutes of great music, one for the culture it feels like, with Black Thought dismissing a tour, just simply leaving it to speak for itself, as great art, I think "Aquamarine" is one of the best songs of 2022 for sure, "Streams Of Thought Volume 3" was cool but weaker than volume 2 & the 1st, it leaned a little too experimental with slightly out of place hooks on some tracks, I was expecting this album to be Experimental and a little out there giving Danger Mouse's knack for doing abstract and complicated but interesting productions but he just kept it skillful, pretty traditional and well suited to Black Thought with the beats, the title track is probably the most unconventional beat on the whole thing, the tracks are placed perfectly, all the guests do their thing and don't take away from any songs, they appear on, the hooks outside of Michael Kiwanuka, from Dylan Cartlidge & Kid Sister, are really nice on the ear and engaging, beautifully done, "No Gold Teeth" "Saltwater" & "Strangers" have dark and filthy production with plucky baselines, then you get emotional and beautiful beats like "Violas and Lupitas" & "Belize" to weight it all out, possibly the more Spiritual and resilient tracks as a listener on the feel they give me personally are " The Darkest Part" & "Because" , the album has a lot of skill on display and I sense a real potency with Danger Mouse & Black Thought, enough to say a sequel or deluxe version is needed, they went with the right approach just doing 12 tracks, making People want more, " Identical Deaths" is probably the only track for me personally that sort of just rolls by without grabbing me too much but its not a song I skip, it just doesn't stand out like the rest of the tracks,, I have heard enough albums this year, to say this is a fantastic piece of work from these 2, Danger Mouse sorta is like Madlib where he doesn't really enjoy interviews or to be center of attention, he just wants to do the music and stay low key, i respect it.
Funny you mention Madlib in your sentiment because listening to Cheat Codes gave me that similar feeling when I first heard Madvilliany with MF Doom back in 04. Two different albums but the abstract, unorthodox production suited both DOOM and Thought on their respective albums working with abstract producers which are both engaging to listen to. This has a nostalgic, yet timeless feel for me. My only complaint: it's not long enough, but I still consider it to be a 38:20 gift of musical perfection. Violas & Lupitas, what a way to end an album...
Lupe Fiasco and Black Thought dropping within months of each other. Could it be that real rap is making a comeback. Only thing that could make it better is if Jay Electronica dropped a new album before the end of the year.
It kind of blows my mind that Black Thought wasn't familiar with J-Zone for a min. Check out Penny Loafers by The Du-Rites. That actually just came out. I followed him back in the day in like 2011 and and witnessed his sort of transition from Hip Hop to just straight up being an dope percussion artist all together. Dude's got a real ear and feel for the shit.
I sold my turntable a while back to fund a surround sound system. Just purchased 2 copies of this vinyl (black & limited edition red). Looks like I'm in the market for a turntable now...
You know that song Star by Roots, I really think humans are like stars some shine brighter than others. That's why you shouldn't compare yourself bc some are just brighter. Black thought shine like Dog Star

Everyone should watch this.
I sold my turntable a while back to fund a surround sound system. Just purchased 2 copies of this vinyl (black & limited edition red). Looks like I'm in the market for a turntable now...
This album is mind blowing! Easily in the running for Hip-Hop album of the year.
Best Album I've Ever Heard
Black Thought has amazing answers & responses
This album needs to be in the art museum of Philadelphia
I will be honest with you, Sway Family! I was bugging for a minute for how underrated J-Zone is. 😅
Who is really fucking with Black Thought? God MC!!!!! Been a fan since Illadelph Halflife....
Definitely AOTY for me, it's constantly been on repeat
Attention to Objective: Tactics n Years
You know that song Star by Roots, I really think humans are like stars some shine brighter than others. That's why you shouldn't compare yourself bc some are just brighter. Black thought shine like Dog Star
What a sick interview..big up🔥🔥🔥
This album is going down as a classic.
Fabulous album
Rap album of the year..
It's been 20yrs wow this the 1st interview I see of Danger Mouse
This was the album I have been waiting for from Black Thought tbh. Dangermouse really laced him with top tier production. Black Thoughts last solo projects, just missed a little something for me. And Dangermouse definitely filled that gap. It's AOTY for me so far and gonna take some beating. It really is a masterclass piece of work. Tariq 100% in the top 10 O.A.T! And been in my top 10 for as long as I can remember!
I can hear the beats playing in the background tabs of my brain right now😌💭
Sway black thought amazing
