  • DuBois Mall - DuBois, Pa. Opened in 1971, this ol' gem was once a shopping destination in the area and thrived. In modern years, this place fell on hard times, became more and more of a dead mall and became subject of a foreclosure. Will the new owners bring the mall back around? Only time will tell.

    It used to have tile and brick floors. There were fountains in front of the JCPenny entrance that were close to the Arcade. The shoe store used to be a barnes and noble... so many other changes too. I remember it being so busy back when I was growing up. I was away for 20+ years, so the changes were quite evident when I returned. Now, it's all but dead.

    We're Rolling is closed now. I visited this today for the first time, and wondered what that empty restaurant was.
    Other than the back section (where We're Rolling used to be), the rest of the mall had a fair bit of life in it... scattered stores, but plenty of shoppers.

    @7:37 The Mr. Pizza was on the corner there beside what is now GNC. The arcade was down the hallway to the right behind the Mr. Pizza.
    What is now "Bradley's Book Outlet" on the corner across from the former Mr. Pizza was one time a sports team apparel store called "That's My Team" in the 90's. I still have an old hat I bought in there as a kid. After "That's My Team" closed an "American Outfitters" opened in that space.

    Believe it or not; this is actually the sister mall to the now long defunct Butler Mall (now Butler Commons) in Butler, PA. Matter of fact, if you look at the original layout of the place, it was almost an exact copy of the Butler Mall (with the exception both Montgomery Ward and Murphy's Mart being on opposite ends−as well as the multiple additions that were built thru-out the years, the first being-I believe JCPenney and that LONG hallway that leads up to it [I'd like to say probably dates to about 1981 I think?]-and the latest being the former Sears from circa 1989. With the part that looks like a smaller "single-story version" of the York and Johnstown Galleria...) I do believe Zamais also had a hand in developing this mall as well.

    I love DuBois mall. My mom worked at Arby's in the 90's but now it's closed because the owner died. I didn't know DuBois Bilo was a JoAnn Fabric. I ate at Mr Pizza in 2000 with my cousins and after the pizza, we played in the tiny arcade. I can't believe they put in carpet where Big Lots, Ross, Bath and Body Works and Pet Place are. That wasn't there in 2016 when I last went with my mom and aunt. The Baravian ( sorry, I don't know how it's spelled) Pretzels were so good, sad that I saw it closed on another video. Did DuBois mall have two arcades? Because I only remember playing in the one that's in the JC Penny wing. How many restrooms does DuBois mall have? I only saw ones in JC Penny wing and in Arby's. I've got to go to the Spirit Halloween wing more often, just not inside the store. I remember once when Big Lots was Ames, there was a bird across Pet Place and I loved talking to him and he talked to me too, so cool. I always wondered what happened to that beautiful bird. I also remember getting a balloon from the Coldwell Bank and seeing another balloon stuck in the ceiling, lol 😂😂😂😂😂. At Ames, I got a Potty Training Kelly doll and I loved her and her accessories and outfit but her little outfit was hard to put back on after taking it off 😢. Overall a very good mall to go to 😃.

  • @DouglasMastersF16
    @DouglasMastersF16 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    @9:55 the oldest part of the mall you're walking though (within this 2019 year) they put down carpet over the old brown tile flooring. It's shame. I'm not a fan of the carpet, and it wasn't really put in well. You can feel how it's uneven to walk on.
    Go watch Ace's old video's and you'll see what I mean. The tile was starting to crack up in spots, so they did have to do something about the floor. I guess carpet was probably the cheapest best way they could do something about fixing it?

    all of the small businesses at the mall are being driven out because the owner of the mall keeps jacking up the rent prices, it’s very upsetting. there is really nothing you can do for fun in dubois anymore.

  • @RawRealRetail
    @RawRealRetail 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wasn't this a charming little mall? Yeah, it is struggling and dying might not be too strong a word, but the community spirit is strong here. There were several locals just hanging around, talking to shopkeepers when we were there. In a way it kinda reminds me of the local spirit you see at Laurel Mall in Connellsville, but not as far along the path to Flea Market status.
    Thanks again for the shoutout in your video! It's fun egging each other on to get these malls covered. Great video Wallie!

    Old navy and Dunham's used to be Ames. Bilo was not at the mall. It was on the other side of the road where the walmart plaza is. My family used to have a time share at treasure lake up the road. Also at the walmart plaza across the road was a Kmart. There was a Montgomery wards there. Last time I was there was back in 1992. It was a cool mall. Once again you brought back childhood memories.

      @chrislemaster2695, my mom worked at the Arby's in the 90's when I was little. I loved it when she would bring home some turnovers, I loved the apple and cherry as those were the only two flavors at the time. I don't remember seeing the chocolate flavor. But, yes, the workers were really nice and the food was excellent, especially from the kids meals. I also loved drinking their chocolate milk that was in a carton. I was sad when it closed. Once, I got sick from there ( stomach flu), not a good thing in the car after lunch and I threw up on my Cabbage Patch doll in my car seat 😢. And, there were these pickle buckets and my mom brought one home so I could put my Barbies in it, and it made my dolls have the pickle scent, lol, 😂. I loved coming to this mall as a child in the 90's 😃.
