I love vintage television shows like this it warms my heart and brings back good memories.

We were on an Aeroflot flight from Baku to Moscow in 1992. People were standing during take-off and landing and downing shots of Stoli. They were several folks using Bunsen burners to heat water for tea.
Nanette Fabray was on Carol's show several times and she was always very funny! She later played Mary Richard's mother on the MTM show and Bonnie Franklin's mom on One Day at a Time.
She also had her own show, "No No Nanette" and her original surname was "Fabares" she was Shelley Fabares aunt!
I love the French decor, damask wallpaper and crystal sconces!

OMG! I am 63. Her show was my favorite back in the 70's. She became a role model for me and I ended up being a funny person! Thanks to her and my dad!

"With air travel becoming more and more popular...", what a quaint old line! This historical statement makes it very clear why it would be nice to have dates on old clips. This is either the late sixties or early seventies, kids.
Season 1 it says. So 1967.
Rotten Tomatoes lists it as:1) aired November 6, 1967, and 2) as Season 1, Episode 8, not Episode 11.
Living in North Carolina ... this is TWA vs. Piedmont Airlines!!! Cirica 1973 and forever !!! And I even worked for Braniff in its last years !!!
My friend took a piedmont airlines flight to visit her sister. Had a good laugh .

I was on a flight like that second one back in 1983. Flew from Zamboanga to Manila on a DC-3. Not much different. When they started the engines, the plane vibrated so badly, I lost three teeth. 😵💫
Well, at least you arrived in tact. Bless the pilots. They always do the best they can no matter what aircraft they are flying. Of course there are DC-3s still flying!
@@paulazemeckis7835 Don't get me wrong. I loved it. Flying on a DC-3 was one of the highlights of my life. It's the crazy things in life that are most memorable.
The loop de loops and the barrel rolls are a bit much.

I’ll never forget a gold-toothed Aeroflot stewardess flung chickens on our trays 32 years ago.
The chicken was reasonably tasty.
JAT Yugoslav Airlines was a carrier I flew on a number of times in the 70s and 80s. They were average at best. Still, they were far better than our airlines today. Poor JAT had a passenger-given slogan, "Joke About Time" since they were often late.

Same here. Our experience was a bit more posh, though. When we got settled in the scary rickety seats for an 8 am flight, the attendant wheeled in a tinny cart - "Beer, wine, chocolate?" Hey, in-flight breakfast!

I did! In 1976 my family and I visited the Soviet Union with a tour group and we took Aeroflot between several cities. It was only slightly better than Slavic Airlines. We then flew to London for a week using British Airways, and had some serious reverse culture shock.
I did in the eighties, it was decent. There were seatbelts ) First row side seats had flip mesh baskets for babies in front of them. They served carbonated mineral water.
Slavic airlines managed to get the first human to outer space. Interesting how these two facts combine in your heads.
The funny thing about it is that LOT Polish Airlines had really outstanding service back in the 1970s, so cheap laughs done with the generic pseudo-Russian accent had nothing to do with the real thing.
I mean this comes from the days when Polish joke might have mentioned the airplane was powered by rubber bands. Folks have short memories.
Thank you. I agree with your "cheap laughs" assessment. This totally un-funny sketch labels people of the "Slavic" countries as stupid and dirty and incompetent. Writers for this comedy sketch revealed themselves as incompetent and as totally lacking in knowledge concerning these countries. I have lived in Poland and I have lived in the Czech Republic. In both of these countries education is the passion of the people. It is very usual for people in Poland to continue with language classes, and other educational programs, into their 80s.
The aspect of this so-called comedy sketch which should be called "stupid" is the writing. In most cases, I don't care about political correctness. We should make some allowances for comedians. This comedy sketch is just plain horrible.
@@ceceliaclarke Don't take this to seriously. Back then they made fun of everyone. Hollywood mocked people from the Southern USA, the Mid West, the West, etc... They mocked everyone but themselves. Intelligent people know that Slavic people are very smart, have a rich culture, produce world class athletes, scientists, musicians and other remarkable people. Look at Hollywood now. They are degenerates that no longer make anything people want to see.

To be fair, this came out at a time when Polish jokes were very common and Carol has said that the Polish embassy contacted the show to complain after this sketch aired due to the Polish airline part of the sketch.

Get over it. This was done in the 1970s first of all. All so it was the generic term Slavic which could be any of the Baltic states and Russia. Third It was more about the poverty of communism at that time which is defunct. This is not today's Poland we all know that.
