Great video! I've been trying to make my mechs more visually complicated and creative, yet still life-like, and this helped a lot :) The mech artists you mentioned are also very inspiring :0
just decided to improve myself in drawing robot like doodles, this video gave a very good tip how to have ur mind setted. thankyou very much. for sure the key from now onwards is to practice and practice.
I recently spent some time sketching out some joints. What I had in mind was the use of stepper motors instead of any hydraulics then just sketch out the electrical cabling.
Hello robert! New subscriber here! Finally yt recommended me the best teacher ever, i've been searching bunch of art tutorials and yet I just found your channel today! Also great timing I'm very interested to learn mecha stuff, great content and thank you for sharing ur knowledge!
Thank you! i enjoyed drawing robots like gundam when i was younger and recently decided to do a detailed trace of pictures of my battle droid figure to learn to use illustrator program. and looking at each piece of it i was like oh 🤔 how would this work IRL? it lead me to think how would i approach it if to design on my own. my bf has so many gundams and the *Articulation* and details ah it’s so cool :) This helps so much thank you again!

Hi Robert, love your videos watching this one especially got me thinking 🤔 about landing gear. Hear me out, I know your passion for Star Wars type spaceships and in the films and especially the animated shows they often emphasize the numerous different types of landing gear and I thought you might have a interesting take on different looks for such a mundane item, which, I feel can make or break certain designs. Being a sci-fi modeler and loving and being inspired by your designs, it would be interested in seeing how you would approach different types of landing gear. Call it adventures in hydraulics the sci-fi version. Just a thought, anyway keep drawing and I’ll keep watching.
That is an interesting idea. honestly I never really thought about it. I like star wars ships but I don't like their feasibility. Spaceships in general are not meant to enter the atmosphere and land. I like the idea of coming up with something functional though.
@@robertlkiss I agree but those imaginary shields protect the ships from the heat and allow our imaginary spaceships to land, and fly like aircraft in space that’s what makes it so great. To quote one of the greatest minds of our time, SpongeBob SquarePants you have to use your 🌈IMAGINATION 🌈. 😁thank you so much for replying.
Thank you for awesome video. I have a question, is it possible to know the brush setting? I've been wondering about that tilted brush many mech/ vehicle artists seem to be using
One thing I struggle with is joints. Reference is key if you’ve not got a visual library in your head. Thank you sir for another amazing video.
Glad you found it useful! cheers!
The inclusion of references was especially helpful, and something I haven't seen many others do.
Absolutely great video, love that you brought up artists that cheat the details just a little! Very interesting technique
Glad to see that you enjoyed the video!
The video with the I was looking for, and super well explained, thanks! Great content!
Happy to hear that you found my video useful!
Thank you for your video, I have been learning about mechanical drawing recently, and your video has been very helpful to me. I support you!
@@shane8200 glad you liked the video and thank you!
Oh, another challenge….I’m in! Oh, and let’s see more of these but with some rock love thrown in please……😉
rock love for the win :)

Yeah stepper motors are pretty much the best approach for actuated joints!
This is a great video, and a challenge right up my alley!
Thanks, and I'm looking forward to see your joints ;)

Are there any classes that we can take to go more indepth on these types of drawings?
Great video very informative, can you make more on this? Mech design and how they work

Can you do a mech chiropractor?
Haha proably, but that sounds like livestream material :)
is there any book for such mech designs to study for sketching?
I don't know of a specific book but Scot Robertson's how to draw does a lot of good explaning

Really good video, thanks for the help, but you forgot generation zero 5:03.
Thanks, I didn't think of including it since I never played it and it is was not a big enough of a mainstream hit for everyone to hear about it
what kinda brush are you using?
Hard round
@@robertlkiss How do you get it it to have that marker look with slight transparency?
@@tris10dm just pressure sensitivity. I think it gets turned on automatically when you are drawing on a tablet.
