my dad was playing me some of the songs from his childhood and he brought up this song. i will never forget the look on his face when he listened to this and started crying. he preceded to tell me through his tears about all of the young boys that were from his small town that had been drafted and died in the vietnam war. i could never imagine losing so many of my friends and family... this song will forever bring tears to my eyes.
Amen and may God rest their souls. People today don't appreciate what they have done for our freedom and happiness but I do I have a family of soldiers I say thank you and I will till the day I die.
Ms. Phenomenol Always It seems to me you got a wrong message from this song its about anti vietnam war not pro vietnam war. Those soldiers have done nothing for your freedom they fought in a land far away with no other meaning then a bloody political game, basicly they died for nothing since its proven vietnam war was a big lie. But so its every war i hope you also think about how meny lives they have taken there. But who could blame them may they R.I.P.
Soul Wisper Sorry you feel that way Soul. I was there and have experienced the hatred of people like you. What part of the war have the socialists convinced you was a lie? Aren't all wars a lie? Is there nothing you'd risk your life for? I suppose not.
So your looking at this from your perspective as much hatred as you expirienced don t you think they also have the oposite side ? "But so is every war" is clearly answering one of your questions about all wars are lies i am guessing you didn t even read my comment. No socialists have convinced me it is proven americans went there because of the The Tonkin Gulf incident that never took place with an interest for viatnemis oil. And yes i would never risk my life for something like that to bad all this blind sheeps didn t see that including you i guess. Its just sad some people think its nobel to die in war or fight a war for a greater cause. I will tell you no greater cause can be achived trough war. Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity and if your sorry i feel bad for people dieing for nothing because they were not capable of seeing the truth its just sad
Calvin Sanders hola......i deeply feel sorry for you.....you were only a victim of politics.....that was just a business war with a big fat L......a lie....
The soldiers are gone but not forgotten. Let not their sacrifice be in vain. Pray for the soldiers who are on the battlefield right now until we can put war to an end forever. PP&M's music touches not just the heart but also the soul.
I grew up in the 60's. I was young and had the world ahead of me, and this song brings back so many happy and inocent memories. I never appreciated my youth, and when I hear this song I want to cry. Not so much from sadness, but rather from the experiences that I will never forget, and the songs, like this one, that float through those memories.
This said so much to me when my brother and husband was fighting in those jungles, they were the lucky one's they came home, but they were never the same....War is Hell....
The war changed them. I've heard that so many times from the "survivors" of Nam, even the ones who saw no combat. Happy-go-lucky kids or draftees or kids who felt a patriotic duty to serve. The lifeless body of a friend or the scream of a dying child haunts them. Their own child or spouse complaining about a minor problem sets them off ... the unreality of a peaceful everyday existence and the fragility of the world is unbearable. Those who didn't go -- brothers, sisters, parents and friends - have been mourning the loss of the smiles and confidence of their beloved veteran for decades , even though he or she returned "intact." Middle East combat veterans are and will be no different as the years go by.
I remember singing song this in my early days of school when my oldest brother was on active duty. Now my son is on active duty trying to keep this world from killing it's self. I am very proud of Tristain. Watch your six my son. Should you read this some day I leave you these three words that I never express enough I love You. gsb
I was in my teens in the 60s and we use to sit down on the sidewalk at night singing PPM songs until very late at night. It was still safe yet then to stay out at night with friends. Those were the happy times in the philipines.
Ana Nym Hi Ana, That was funny you though Mary Travers had answered, unfortunately I cannot sing. Although when I was a young girl I sang in a folk group, and sang this sort of song, but they realised I was not that good!! so my cousin stepped in (who was a good singer), and I got the SACK!! We had such great time back then!!!
Listening to this song... one that I sang when I was a young teen, I found tears come to my eyes and run down my cheeks. This song invoked such feeling about what was going on at the time - the war in Vietnam - and the hopelessness of that war. It wasn't the soldiers that we blamed for the war, it was Richard Nixon, et al. Our friends went there to fight and saw such horrors and were exposed to Agent Orange, and then weren't welcomed back home as the true heroes they were and are.
Saw Peter Paul and Mary many years ago in Wellington New Zealand. Mary's presence on stage was magnetic. We were so lucky to have such beautiful and talented people in our lives.
My mother went to a Peter, Paul, and Mary concert when she was young. Afterward, the group was signing and meeting fans. When she got the opportunity to meet them, she had a tape recorder. She asked if they would say something on the tape and that she was sending it to some young men in Vietnam. They took the recorder and told everyone to be patient and continued to fill the entire thing. Such caring people. It went to Vietnam and that was the last she heard of it. My mother died a few years ago now. This morning either in a dream or partially awake before the alarm went off I was suddenly in my childhood home and she was waking me, calling my name. It was so real at that moment. I did not want to realize I was an adult and that she was gone. Heavy is my heart today. She brought me here... Love you mom.
Mama's and Papa's, The Seekers, The Carpenters. best years of my life, i really must write a book about my life.. i'm 66 now, going to live to be 150 years old, well i can dream and as Walt Disney said " If you can Dream it, you can do it" part of his quote about a mouse called Tugboat Willie....
This is certainly a song that inspired the public to go back to their homes with better feelings, that inspired to change the world. We need more songs like these.
This beautiful work of art is so much more than an "anti-War" song. At it's heart, it is a most tender LOVE song, and I don't mean "romantic" love. It is very special, and I adore it.
This song should be played today. For the Brave Men and Women who are sacrifing their lives. USMC 1968-1969 2/27 and 2/9. Vietnam. Still speaks to me after all these years.
My first husband got drafted in 1970, we got married, went on Honeymoon and then to his parents house in Illinois! He left for Basic training, then to Vietnam, came home a different man!
I'm 13 and I basically grew up to Peter, Paul and Mary because my parents were/all obsessed with them and I really understand what they mean now as I learn about the past in Social Studies and they are truly all beautiful!
peter paul and mary are and will always be the greatest group to ever grace our ears....they had a way of imparting wisdom that stays with us all our lives. i am 35 and still smile when even thinking of these songs. my dad used to play one of the old records every morning b4 going to school. thank you peter paul and mary, and thank you dad!
I was singing this song in 1963 - we had such hope then that we could change the world for the better but hearing the song again today it seems that as a grandmother now those hopes have not been realised. So sad the world is still so full of war and sadness . . . And the young are still be lost to us in this way.
You are so right Jacquie. We never learn, but you & i worlds apart appreciate what as a generation we tried to do & if like PP&M & so many others this world listened this world would be a better place today. We can only pass our values onto our children & grandchildren, but will they listen or when will they ever learn. Merry Xmas
Mary has now gone with the flowers but anyone who listens will be calmed and relaxed (I listen to lower my B/P). She will always be missed - thank God her music will remain,
I'm 45 and still this song rings in my memory and spews from my lips as tears stream down my face... when will we ever learn??? Mothers unite and stop sending your sons and daughters to fight for old bitter causes... Please!
Yes...enough. Let those who can live in peace do it. I am grateful for my country and the men willing to defend it. What I won't countenance is the misuse of our best and bravest. Thank you for your service. Please understand why we sometimes protest.
Kindness raised when those beautifull people stayed on the stage! Never saw them really, but they will stay into my heart 'til the end of my days, for sure!
Appreciated. I am in my mid 60's. Never had to go to war thankfully, was in the RAF for a few yrs. 'We' just never seem to learn. I visited the memorials at Monte Casino. I believe that EVERY world leader should be made to visit ALL the memorials, & then hang their heads in shame for what leaders in the past have accomplished!
May we never forget that our freedoms have always meant the shedding of blood and how so many have given the ultimate sacrifice for what so many take for granted.
What would they ever think of our world today, i was a teenager wanted to change the world, didn't succeed. One of the most beautiful songs from our youth, but the politicans never listen. Miss you Mary, but life is like PUFF the Magic Dragon for all of us.
God! How this wonderful group has aged! I remember when they came on the scene in the early 1960's. So young then! And when I listened to them back then it was also the first time I experienced Stereo Sound which of course was a great advance in recording. From Canada.
Why is American society like it is today? Because we don't have music like this anymore. The songwriting here is absolutely brilliant. All we get today is Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke. Lord save us all.
I''m 86 years young, and don't know much about modern things like songs and singers, but I can still remember the wonder of sex and the beauty of pretty girls, and I say hurrah for Miley Syrus, and she can wiggle her pretty hind end for me any and all the time! But I love Peter, Paul, and Mary in a different and more holy way!
I have been a PPM fan for years.Just got the DVD of this concert today and just finished watching it. It's an incredible show and experience. These single clips, while enjoyable, simply cannot give you the same feel as the complete show. Well worth the price.
These songs bring back a time of turmoil but, because so many different kinds of people worked together, it brings back memories of hope for a world of peace and tolerance as well as understanding. Nothing in today's music tops the music of my youth in breadth and depth. Thanks so much for posting......
So touching. I'm so glad that you understand it now. I have always loved and understood them. I got hooked on them when I was a freshman in High School and love them to this day. I'm 65. Their music never gets old .They're Universal!
I grew up listening to folk music and this was one of the best. It was as appropriate then as it is now and will, unfortunately, be in our future. I had so much hope back then, that our protesting would bring peace. It did help to wake up the people and the Vietnam war eventually ended. Some of our boys came home, but all were wounded in one way or another. They never forgot the horrors they witnessed and we never forgot all the wasted lives. Since that time there has always been war. The military industrial complex rules our lives because of money, and will continue to do so. We can learn, but they will not.
Radio doesn't play any type of folk, or country or anything anymore. We always said "as the pendulum swings" so does the music. in 2016, its horrific, and i always wonder what the next generation will grow up listening to..
I also wonder who can influence the new coming up! We had such great music, back in the day! I hate getting old, but if I wasn't, I would be dead! So much good music from the past out there! Hope they listen to some of it!
I worry about the next generations music , hope a little bit of the old influences some! I love music, listen to it all the time! Music has always been a part of my life!
From the days when PURE talent ruled, no tricks in the recordings, respect for the artists talent, no smoke bombs or light shows used at all in the concert, the way they looked was never a problem, just talent!
"Where Have All the Flowers Gone" sung by Peter, Paul, and Mary was a song we would sing in bistros and bars during the Vietnam War. It was an anti-war song high-lighting the drafting of young men to fight the war. The young men would burn their draft cards and head to Canada to escape the draft. Many that fought as heroes came back in coffins. There is a huge black wall in District of Columbia with each fallen hero's name inscribed upon it. We, who are the living Veterans, commemorate their sacrifice each Veteran's Day.
A song I heard has the following line: "Willy, don't you ever wonder, when you refused the call; the one that took your place, is his name upon the Wall?"
Ande AS I'm 51, and learned it in the 80s. I used to sing and and play it on my guitar as a teenager. I detested the vile Leftwing political message against our soldiers, and our all volunteer military. But it's an ugly Anti-American sentiment, written very well, wrapped in a melody too beautiful to not sing. Like all beautiful music that is written by Lie-berals. Bad and false beliefs wrapped in a pretty wrapping that is often hard to resist by us Normals.
Ahhh the beautiful music of the beautiful souls of the 70's. I'd give anything to be able to go back in time...and do it all over again. This makes me want to cry. RIP Mary.
Where has all this good music gone?
my dad was playing me some of the songs from his childhood and he brought up this song. i will never forget the look on his face when he listened to this and started crying. he preceded to tell me through his tears about all of the young boys that were from his small town that had been drafted and died in the vietnam war. i could never imagine losing so many of my friends and family... this song will forever bring tears to my eyes.

I went to Vietnam in 1966 at 17 returned in 1969 to a military hospital. Given tickets to PP& M . This hardened Marine will never forget this song
Thank you for your service!
The soldiers are gone but not forgotten. Let not their sacrifice be in vain. Pray for the soldiers who are on the battlefield right now until we can put war to an end forever. PP&M's music touches not just the heart but also the soul.
I am a Viet Nam Vet. This song still brings a tear to my Eye. War is Stupid.
Yes, war never will be good. instead: PEACE, LOVE EACH OTHER, TOLERANCE, UNITY IN DIVERSITY,
I agree. Thank you for your service. Vietnam vets deserved so much better than they got.
My husband also went to Viet Nam! Never the same!
Thank you for your service! My husband was there, too!
My life changed forever! I lost him!
Being a Vietnam veteran this song brings a heaviness to my heart and a tear to my eye.
Yah classic antiwar song for all time
My thoughts also. Gone but not forgotten :(
Thank you.....
🇺🇸❤️❤️
Ther are a lot of people who dont get this song. It speaks to us vets

This song is so relevant to today's world!
This said so much to me when my brother and husband was fighting in those jungles, they were the lucky one's they came home, but they were never the same....War is Hell....
My 19 year old husband went to Vietnam, made it home, but was never the same as he was! Vietnam was such a senseless ruin of life!
God Bless and thank them!
No one came home from Vietnam the same!
The war changed them. I've heard that so many times from the "survivors" of Nam, even the ones who saw no combat. Happy-go-lucky kids or draftees or kids who felt a patriotic duty to serve. You are so right, they did not come back the same! What a loss to our country! I have cried many years over that!

Alberto Lacandalo
I agree I was hippie during 70' s
I miss when we were safe to sit and sing and talk without someone shooting or robbing people! Those were the best years of my life!
I remember hearing this in the '60's and thinking it was both prophetic, angellic, and truly inspired...Music these days just doesn't do it!
Wow, I'm speachless. Can't help myself but I start crying...never heared this song before
Fantastic song..when I was a young girl.
mary rawson
Oh, haha, I first thought Mary Travers had answered me :-) ! Yes, the song is fantastic.

Vietam was one of the worst wars ever! No one knew what they were doing! Changed my life. My husband came home, but was never the same!
Love this song. Saw them in concert in the 90's. They put on a great show. RIP Mary you are missed still today
This was such a beautiful concert! People sit and listen and sing, not like concerts of today!
Wow what an amazing trio such lovely voices
amen Mary.
+Robert Hughes Have you heard 'The Kingston Trio' rendition? It's very good!
Louis.these songs for me ,are always alive and are the best
I will never forget seeing them in person in Dallas.
Best gift my son ever gave me, tickets.
And again and again Mary Travers shows she is the greatest folk singer at all the times, indeed. And PPM the Real Band.
I have been in love with Mary since I was ten. I miss her dearly since she died.
One of the best songs of all time. Let's all give our respects to Pete Seeger.
I also play guitar. My mom suffered from dementia. Mom taught piano once. She died last year. I play guitar. Bless her.
Steamboat Willy?
Ditto!!!
My father saw "Steamboat Willy", but I wasn't born yet.
Hope you write that book, I would read it!
Write the book ... In a way only u can
This is certainly a song that inspired the public to go back to their homes with better feelings, that inspired to change the world. We need more songs like these.
years ago i heard this song, and we still sing this today,, for we never learn
i agree
ha ha i was eleven
I was in Saudi Arabia when I watched this concert. For no particular reason, I felt tears were coming from my eyes.
Mary is no longer with us but her beautiful voice will be with us forever
I'm 61. We buried so many of our young men and now we are burying our young women too. War sucks. BB USMC 68-71. Semper Fi, boys. Semper Fi.
How beautiful their voices blend! R.I.P. sweet Mary!
I love this song. This was a time when people believed peace could happen. I believe it still can.
May Mary rest in peace. May the music she helped create live on in our minds and hearts. Such talent. She can never be replaced or duplicated
peter paul and mary are and will always be the greatest group to ever grace our ears....they had a way of imparting wisdom that stays with us all our lives. i am 35 and still smile when even thinking of these songs. my dad used to play one of the old records every morning b4 going to school. thank you peter paul and mary, and thank you dad!
When will "we" ever learn. Heartfelt. Touches my heart.
A song that is as timely today as it was then, and long before then. It will continue to be timely in every generation....until they (we?) learn.
I was singing this song in 1963 - we had such hope then that we could change the world for the better but hearing the song again today it seems that as a grandmother now those hopes have not been realised. So sad the world is still so full of war and sadness . . . And the young are still be lost to us in this way.
We have the internet, now don't just sit around.
You are so right Jacquie. We never learn, but you & i worlds apart appreciate what as a generation we tried to do & if like PP&M & so many others this world listened this world would be a better place today. We can only pass our values onto our children & grandchildren, but will they listen or when will they ever learn. Merry Xmas

This group Cares so much about the departed. Thank you Peter , Paul and Mary.
Mary has now gone with the flowers but anyone who listens will be calmed and relaxed (I listen to lower my B/P). She will always be missed - thank God her music will remain,

Yes...enough. Let those who can live in peace do it. I am grateful for my country and the men willing to defend it. What I won't countenance is the misuse of our best and bravest. Thank you for your service. Please understand why we sometimes protest.
i have listened to this for 50 years. i have grand children listening now. keep us alive.
A hauntingly beautiful song.
Alan Ung Yes, beautiful melody, with well written lyrics, and an exceedingly ugly Leftwing sentiment.
Kindness raised when those beautifull people stayed on the stage! Never saw them really,
but they will stay into my heart 'til the end of my days, for sure!
love their music, gone from this world(mary) but not forgotten, wish we could go back to those times
Those were the days my friend, i thought they'd never end..........mmm
I wish I could go back

May we never forget that our freedoms have always meant the shedding of blood and how so many have given the ultimate sacrifice for what so many take for granted.
Mary Travers you are beautiful and have a beautiful voice R.I.P. Mary. Now you sing with angels...........
listened to this song probably a hundred times and it makes me cry every time.....so beautiful and poignant
A song of innocence lost, young lives lost.
What would they ever think of our world today, i was a teenager wanted to change the world, didn't succeed. One of the most beautiful songs from our youth, but the politicans never listen. Miss you Mary, but life is like PUFF the Magic Dragon for all of us.
bob - well said, man..., well said.
This song has always brought tears. War is so senseless. God, forgive us...
I just loved Mary Travers....i hope her and John Denver are making sweet music together...
I'd love to change the world, but i don't know how....

"All things must past"but their songs remain forever..thank u..Peter,paul and Mary..
I grew up in the best of music! This makes me remember! Vietnam, and the riots and stuff we dealt with, but we lived in the best of times!
It took me forever to find this concert permanently. I really love Peter singing the harmonies to the audience melody in this song. Breathtaking.
Beautiful. Simply beautiful.
where has all this wisdom gone? This is music that the authors knew what they were talking about. What a time!!
I remember listening to this with my Gran. R.I.P.
Came back to listen to this one year later.
I have been a PPM fan for years.Just got the DVD of this concert today and just finished watching it. It's an incredible show and experience. These single clips, while enjoyable, simply cannot give you the same feel as the complete show. Well worth the price.
They were brilliant and I watch their videos constantly on TH-cam. Would love to have seen them live in concert.
These songs bring back a time of turmoil but, because so many different kinds of people worked together, it brings back memories of hope for a world of peace and tolerance as well as understanding. Nothing in today's music tops the music of my youth in breadth and depth. Thanks so much for posting......
Music that made me cry many years long, long ago still brings a few tears

Peter, Paul and Mary So much good music and powerful lyrics
So touching. I'm so glad that you understand it now. I have always loved and understood them. I got hooked on them when I was a freshman in High School and love them to this day. I'm 65.
Their music never gets old
.They're Universal!
where have all the artists gone?
Beautiful...I was a child when this came out, remember it well. Still brings a tear...
Such a sad loss but Mary's voice will live on for evermore
PETER, PAUL, AND MARY ARE VERY COMFORTING TO ME DURING THE LOSS OF MY MOTHER. IT BRINGS HER MEMORY BACK TO WHERE SHE IS HERE WITH JESUS. AMEN
never before, never after. the ultimate folk group.
What no country on the radio??? Not in my neck of the woods. It's everywhere.
It's called Country Music. That doesn't make it country music. Real country died in the nineties.
I also wonder who can influence the new coming up! We had such great music, back in the day! I hate getting old, but if I wasn't, I would be dead! So much good music from the past out there! Hope they listen to some of it!
Times have changed since back then. Yeah no more Folk songs not many that have a special meaning! We lost the best of music!
I was a soldier, No more words.........
Pete Seger is crying in heaven , what a legacy they all have left us..
I am now 72 and i wake up at night thinking they are still here.
3 tours Vietnam and the first Gulf War.
Love the way she gently and sweetly invites the crowd to sing
"Where Have All the Flowers Gone" sung by Peter, Paul, and Mary was a song we would sing in bistros and bars during the Vietnam War. It was an anti-war song high-lighting the drafting of young men to fight the war. The young men would burn their draft
cards and head to Canada to escape the draft. Many that fought as heroes came back in coffins. There is a huge black wall in District of Columbia with each fallen hero's name inscribed upon it. We, who are the living Veterans, commemorate their sacrifice each
Veteran's Day.
amen
A song I heard has the following line:
"Willy, don't you ever wonder,
when you refused the call;
the one that took your place,
is his name upon the Wall?"
to all the Viet Nam Vets--welcome home, thank you for your service.
Mary Phillips thank you
Mark Burnside Thank you so much for your service. YOU are a hero and a true American. Welcome home.
Thank you for your service soldier. Thank you for giving my children and grand children a chance at what we HAD!
Do you remember from our childhood in the 60's? For those over 50.
Yes, wonderful and sad memories, but I remember!
I remember many things from back then, I enjoyed my childhood,
Ande AS I'm 51, and learned it in the 80s.
RIP Mary.
