I am 62.........and lived through those wonderful years, the 60's. Listening to Puff brought tears but as they sang, Puff is still with us. Rest in peace Mary....................
When I was a little boy we sailed from Australia to Canada to live for two years (1968-69) -- in those days it was cheaper than flying. The ship had a playroom for all the children on board. This song was played every day. It's one of my earliest memories.
Am I the only stupid father that has tears in his eyes when he hears this song . "FATHERS live for ever but no so little boys" All too soon they grow up, leave home and the fun and games you played with had are gone for ever. They move on but you are left behind thinking of the wonderful few years you had together. And with daughters. For those fathers out there with small children - treasure your times with them. Puff was a parent!
RIP Mary!! 3 generations of my family have grown up on your beautiful voice! My 9 year old daughter and I are fighting back the tears. But just like Puff was told, No one last forever. God Bless You Mary!!
Im 46 and I still listen to this song often... My 5 year old daughter asks for me to play it all the time and sings along...... timeless classic ... RIP MARY
Many comments are more than a decade old...how many wonderful beautiful things people will forget, and disappear with time. Like many others, my dad also sang this song to me as a boy. He sang it with such melancholy. I love you dad.
Once again the tears flow freely. John Stewart, Nick Reynolds and now Mary Travers. The great ones who made the music of our lives are slowly fading away. RIP one in all. Thanks Mary, you were beautiful in every sense of the word.
I've never cried listening to or singing Puff before....but tonight, it is all so very, very sad even though we delight that we had Peter, Paul and Mary in our lives. God Bless you all, as you mourn the passing of your dear friend.
I'm 34 and i still sing this to my 6 year old nephew! My mother sang it to us when we were little and i'm glad i'm able to continue the tradition with him.My hope is when he is older and has kid's of his own he'll sing it to them, this song is truly timeless.
Awesome Group! Beautiful! makes me heart soar to sing this and to listen to this talented group who have made so many children and adults happy.......RIP Mary. I did not forget your passing!
Smiles and tears on watching this, and thinking of how much Peter, Paul, and Mary brought to the world. Mary, you were a wonder and a joyous light to the world. Thank you for all you left. May you live forever in your Honalee.
This song never fails to make me smile. So many memories from my childhood. One of my favorite songs of all time. I will teach it to my kids when they are a bit older.
For a 40 year old like me (and I am sure many of you) the great folk singers of the 60s (Seeger, PPM, Dylan) were the "allowed" link from my parents between "kids songs" and the eventual rise of Rock and Roll in my life. How wonderfull is it that even now I could play/sing these songs to my children and they can enjoy them. Of course how sad is it that so many of them like"Where Have All the Flowers Gone" are once again so relevant today.
Love this, not as fast as last version! I love this song! Always will, part of my childhood! Still love this! All children need imagination! Worked as a teacher for 30 years! Loved all my kids! School librarian for 17 years, Special needs teacher for 13! All my kids were important to me! Everyone of them were different! I loved them all!
ya I used to have the 45 and play it on my little record player pretty much when it first came out in the 60's.....I was only 7 years old but sure liked that song. Then I'd take and put Chubby Checker's "do the twist" on and mom would crack up laughing at me doing the twist!
Even after all these years, Peter Paul and Mary are still the greatest folk singers the ever. I can sit and listen to them for hours. They made folk songs fun.
This song brings sooo many memories back, 3rd time i hear this song, 3rd time a tear falls:) Mary, we will never forget you. Love this song :-) I hope we'll never forget this fantastic song!
I used to watch one of Peter Paul and Mary's concerts on video all the time as a child, and this was my favorite of their songs. Listening to it again, it brings back so much emotion. I still love this song. In fact, it feels like I love it even more now. It's such a beautiful song.
What a sweet and lovely performance. I grew up with this song, and even though I've been "grown up" for quite a while now, this song still makes me cry. (And I still believe in Puff!)
Peter Paul & Mary care so much about folk songs and the Folk Music genre. Their song and their work has provided so much happiness to so many around the world!! Nice to see generations enjoying their work together. Thanks for this great video :) JEN
Beautiful. Love seeing the audience reactions and watching young and old sing along. You can tell many of them are reliving happy times from their childhoods.
It's just a harmless children's song. It brings back great memories for me. I remember singing it at school- we all sat on the carpet and sang while our class teacher played the guitar- it was so much fun!
My daddy raised me on this song!! it is amazing.. He recently passerd and when he first became uncocious i sng him this and he squezzed my hand right before he passed
Thanks for sharing this video. It's my favorite version of the song, the one that introduced me to Puff. Treasured memories of my childhood shared now with my sons.
i grew up to their music in the 60's, they will always be a part of my life, i will never forget what it did for my life, PP and M, you will be missed by many
All my musical heros are moving on to the next life. RIP mary you had the voice of a angel . Now you truly are a angel . Heaven is truly a more beautiful place today with you there
When I was a kid, my mom and dad divorced. When I would visit my dad, he would always play this, and I would sing it with him. I can't hear it without crying.
I am 38 and I have seen them 2 times in concert. I have been too many concerts, ozzy, metallica, The Met Opera and many others and they were the greatesst thig I have ever seen live
Thank you Peter Paul and Mary. This is my favourite song. That marvelous little toy is next. I can't get through Puff without a tear. The fact that the audience cheers by the second note of the opening tells the story. I hope you see this e-mail. Thank you. Your entertaining is first class.
I remember this song from my childhood singing it at school as well as the song " where have all the flowers gone" - my singing teacher loved these folk songs. There was another song: "there's a tiny house" think it's called Gilly Gilly by the Sea. All brings back great childhood memories.
oh how i understand where youre coming from.i always think of my parents when i watch this and think of lovely times when i was a little boy.great stuff
ts a great song. If your a mom or dad, it brings tears to your eyes. How children grow and turn into adults. I have a 7 year old, and it seems like yesterday I was carrying her in my arms, pushing her stroller to get her to sleep. Enjoy your time with your children, and always love them
I would take day time naps in the 60's dreaming about "Puff". I was just a young boy. I have since been to the part of Hawaii that they talk about in the song. It is beutiful.
Oh God this song makes me cry...every single time...I love it though. I mean it was written like forty years before I was even born, but I remember watching the movie as a kid...so it reminds me of childhood...great song.
I love this sound as it reminds me not only of hearing it as a child, but also of the F-15D that I was a crew chief on in the USAF at Luke AFB, AZ. This particular F-15 (Tail Number 9016) had an engine that everytime it was cranked, it would shoot out a ball of fire from the after-burner. Well this aircraft became known as Puff the Magic Dragon and, of course, I earned the name of Little Jacky Paper. Well, I"ve grown up and left the Air Force and I have no idea where Puff is now. So sad.
Thank you Mary, for all you contributed to my life along with Peter and Paul. You provided my soundtrack. I loved your music, your passion and your activism. Rest in peace.
I so love this song even here in November 2024, so any great memories. 🎶🎶🎶🙏🎶🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️
