Yes, 'Broadway'. Jay Ward loved Daws Butler's "Silvers" impression (which he also used as Hanna-Barbera's "Hokey Wolf") so much, he had Butler use that particular voice in many of the "Tales" and "Aesop & Son" episodes, right into "GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE"....
anyone remember an old cartoon about 3 bears trying in vain to get to sleep for the winter? they keep getting disturbed... was a classic, been looking for it for years with no luck :(
Say Edward Everett Horton 3 Times , I LOVE THIS SHOW , I was a kid when it was on . The Maker was an anti-Vietnam War Guy named Jay something , but he was a good cartoon show guy .
The wolf here is actually a characture of Phil Silvers, who was a comedian of the time who had a show of his own, The Phil Silvers Show, where he played a sargent named Bilko.
It's a reference to Cassandra the daughter of Priam, the King of Troy. She was given the gift of prophecy by Apollo, but when she refused his romantic advances, he placed a curse ensuring that nobody would believe her warnings. Cassandra was left with the knowledge of future events, but could neither alter these events nor convince others of the validity of her predictions. Hence a "Cassandra Truth" is a character who tries to warn others of impending troubles but no one believes them.
steampunker7 Cassandra had just been given gift of clairvoyancy before she decided to do the old switcheroo on Apollo - she should have seen that curse coming! 😆
So...the guy learns the hard way that it's best to work hard if you want to be rich...while the girls inherit their fortunes. Ain't that the way it always is, fellas?
@skrat5 yeah, me too...just like a pesty little fly. If only they'd have opened the book back up and let us see the remains! Now that would have been hilarious!
The three pigs were safe in the brick house until the bank pointed to fine print in the mortgage allowing it to raise interest rates. The pigs could no longer afford the payments and appealed to the government, which did nothing about the predatory practices of the bank. The wolf, a nephew of the bank president, moved into the house and the pigs had to move into a house of straw until it blew over in a storm and the insurance company, pointing to fine print, refused to cover the loss.
Back then, "gay" meant happy and carefree. Starting in the late 60s or early 70s, "gay" started to mean "homosexual." (I always enjoyed how "The Simpsons" joked about Mr. Burns still thinking "gay" meant happy due to his old age.)
+Jennifer Hodges I hope Hanna-Barbera was cool with Daws Butler using his Phil Silvers imitation for another wolf not done by their studio (as during this time, he was also voicing Hokey Wolf, with the same Phil Silvers voice.)
You know having relationships with a maid (even a pig one) in Japan is considered a great honor... If you happen to have that sort of fetish that is..:)
Was in great. Taste them using that in a telegram for sows did s similar thing playing the itsy bitsy spider n shoo fly don't bother me in a bugs life right ?
@aprilgeminisaturn No, actually "gay" could mean homosexual more than 40 years ago. I remember a Playboy mag xmas cartoon where a gay was chirping, "Now we don our gay apparrel," while admiring his very drag like wardrobe. But the word could just mean happy. Now, it seems to have been entirely polarized into meaning homosexual. That's from overuse in one case, and underuse in another.
@Henry8thWAS You lost, man, get used to it. Next time get yourself a worthy running team that isn't Methuselah and an uneducated low IQ token bit of tail. The world is better without McCain & Palin. Last word loses.
I remember these from when I was a kid - loved them - thanks for posting
I loved this when I was a baby! The colors made it great! The voices are the best!
June Foray is just a legend, her vocal range is just so appealing to my ears and just simply FANTASTIC .......PERIOD.

The wolf... Top Cat voice lol.
More like Hokey Wolf.
Nice to hear Bill Scott, a.k.a. the voice of Bullwinkle, doing the wolf. Hilarious.
Wait a sec, "Top
Cat"?! Holy Crap, it's Arnold Stang!
Wow, this was made before The Supremes even recorded a song!
Love that singing telegram!
Thanks!
FABULOUS!
i looove it

The continental approach almost worked...too bad Henry blew it by revealing he was just after her money
Eventhough these cartoons were produced with a very low budget, THESE ARE 100% funnier than the S hit Cartoon Network produces...
3:34 Looks like being a pickup artist doesn't work in fiction either.
That was exactly the one! Thanks so much for replying :)
whisper sweet nothings. Now thats funny!
I just watched that I minute ago I looked up fractured fairy tales on google and it was the last video on the 1st page
This was 1961, gay meant something different than it does today, but it’s still funny!
Moral of the story: Never stop Cassandra when she tries to tell you the truth.
Get it? Cassandra? Truth? Cassandra Truth?
I'll show myself out. >.>;
I liked it :)
I don't get it

steampunker7 well, I learned something here today! These cartoons sure were clever, despite the lousy animation...
steampunker7 Cassandra had just been given gift of clairvoyancy before she decided to do the old switcheroo on Apollo - she should have seen that curse coming! 😆

That's pretty much how exciting Niagara Falls is.
"Gay Boy Annual"? The subliminal messages in the cartoons were to blame, ma!
+fishhead06
The word "gay" used to mean happy. Keep in mind this cartoon is from 1961.
James M
I know. I'm being facetious.
+fishhead06 :D:D:D

Title almost looks like Three Litle Pigas
@JoePrzemyslany I think it's Paul Frees.
@skrat5
yeah, me too...just like a pesty little fly. If only they'd have opened the book back up and let us see the remains! Now that would have been hilarious!
"whom shall I say is calling whom? hmm?" lol
It was about Goldie locks and the 3 bears
It's supposed to be a parody of Playboy, if you notice, he has a collection of girlie mags.
women can be like that wolf. 🤔
The character of the wolf is based on Phil Silvers.
My teacher showing us rockey and bullwinkle
Seems like Daws Butler did that Hokey Wolf voice a lot in these shorts. Was it just easier for him or something?

i think it's called " whats brewin bruin? 1948" .. i hope that this is what you are looking for..
How to marry a pig. lol
Henry Q is a clone of Phil Silvers' Sgt. Bilko', and a forerunner to' Top Cat', with a bit of 'Snagglepuss' thrown in.
Is that wolf supposed to be styled after Phil Silvers?
2:52 That's a really gay mag he's reading.
It's not d gay magazine. It says Say What? I looked at it closely with a magnifying glass.
Dude he even brung it too her house sheesh wutta dope
Back then, "gay" meant happy and carefree. Starting in the late 60s or early 70s, "gay" started to mean "homosexual." (I always enjoyed how "The Simpsons" joked about Mr. Burns still thinking "gay" meant happy due to his old age.)
read the cover of the magazine at 2:54--sheesh!
Heh, a cartoon wolf voiced by Daws Butler imitating Phil Silvers, just like Hanna-Barbera's Hokey Wolf!
Was the wolf the aardvark from the ant and the aardvark?
Wolfie sounds like Phil Silvers :D
Henry wolf you mean
+tripp cory Yeah...I was just being silly :)

Hmm u think he have mace or a dart gun too get out of that again he married the wrong pig correction sow
I think the word "gay" back in that time meant "happy" and "care-free".
I wasn't suspecting such an ending. Also is the bottom at 1:08 censored or are those just artifacts?
i wonder what rich Alice pig would look like.
She must of got suspicious when he started reading Gay Boy Annual. It made him a bit TOO sophisticated for her liking.
Better than the caveman approach...I can't believe he thought that would work!
Hmm well i thought in by the thick coloring the wolf was blue not pink n the pigs will be swines not sows
dns1976thurman, will be having lots of views since at my school we r asked to watch this.

Hi mr Kwek
why does it say gay boy at 3:00
"Type PRIZE before youtube and hit enter"
This would have been SO much better if it had a bunch of shitty CGI animation and a computerized 3D background, and a loud thumping techno soundtrack.
i like the origanl better

Out of shape fairy - she's out of breath pushing a book! Perhaps back in 1961 they knew about the coming obesity problem in America!
