1:43 in the very lower right corner of the video you can see the included white fuse puller. You don't need pliers to pull the fuse. Again, it's inside the fuse box in the lower right corner.
Appreciate the video, just yanked mine out of my 2020 Bolt. I didn't think the noise would bother me at all, but I found myself hating it after one day lol.
i agree. when i test drove this car i loved how quiet it was (they had this sound deactivated) after i paid for it they turned it on and it was clearly noticeable to me. i am very mad about it. i probably would have not purchased the car if i would have known.
Just something to think about, but folks who are visually impaired rely on these safety features, when they navigate the world with a guide dog or walking cane/aid. while this noise is annoying for you personally, they are still safety features that could prevent a collision and save a life. Someone else commented that it opens the person up to liability if they strike a Pedestrian after disabling a safety feature.
I just bought a 2020 Bolt EV Premier. Teslas don't make a noise moving forward, but they do when reversing. Nevertheless, I don't want the noise in my Bolt. It turns off at 22mph which is way higher than the 14mph I read on here!
Wow, it stays on up to 14 mph? That seems a bit high. My 2016 Kia Soul EV+ has one, but it only works at up to around 5 or 6 mph (I think). I have to say I've grown accustomed to it and hardly even notice it except when I'm pulling into the garage at the end of the day. That being said, I thought it was weird that this was even added to EVs. Yes, they're very quiet, but so are plenty of ICE vehicles. A modern ICE car, especially something like a high end Cadillac, etc, are super duper quiet too when they are not revving the engine. It's too bad that this can't be disabled by some control on the dashboard.
The many "Extra" empty unused fuse sockets are most likely due to a shared GM part. For example, this fuse box could be the exact same part used on a Chevy cruze. And since the Bolt doesn't have power seats, no fuse is needed for that.
I don't recommend doing this because of the possible repercussions but if it bothers you that much that you have to get rid of that sound why not take the fuse out and put in a fuse of the same amperage but a blown fuse instead of a good one so for 1 it is disabled and you won't hear the noise and for 2 if there ever was a problem like an accident with a blown fuse in there you could just say you were not aware it was blown and maybe just maybe you won't get in to trouble and since you stated that if you take it in for service it may have a code and they will see, it just put the good fuse back in before you take it to the dealer so it won't pop up any codes that's easy enough. But like I said in the beginning I wouldn't recommend doing this.
Any thoughts on disabling the driver open door chime? It's soooo loud and constant. It appears to be routed through the radio speaker. I guess passengers falling out wasn't such a concern as they do not chime. Thanks for the video. I also just went from the 500e to the Bolt LT. Congrats on yours.
Yeah, that's kinda of annoying as well. If you listen long enough, you'll hear the end of the recording loop, which tells me there's a sending unit. That means it can be disabled. I just fixed a different annoyance, that will be in ep #29. Maybe after that. Otherwise, the Bolt is a very solid car that's just the right size. So much better than the Tesla Model S that I used to have. Less crap, less weight, & it goes just as far, about 300 miles per charge (if I wanted to). Congrats on your too! 😃
@@theevolvingworld I'll definitely stay tuned... Used your 500e vid to disable the noise maker. Will do the same for the Bolt. And yeah, the size increase is really nice. A real back seat is helpful. Good to hear about the door. Thanks
GM door chimes are built into the head unit. The only realistic way to get rid of it is to do an aftermarket unit(which is likely not possible on the bolt due to how the EV controls are integrated into the screen). I've swapped a few aftermarket displays on GM trucks and they usually come with a separate buzzer. Leave the buzzer out and you won't ever hear it bong.
any possibility that if you took the interior door panel for the drivers side you could unplug and put in a resistor or merely connect the wires to the door closed mechanism showing it as always closed ?
Did you not hear what you said?? It is a safety feature for the benefit of pedestrians. If this is not illegal (and it certainly should be) it is incredibly self-centered.
My previous EV didn't have a noise maker. It was annoying when I'd drive through my neighborhood and get stuck behind someone walking in the middle of the road. If you think the bolt is bad you should hear a Honda CRV hybrid. My neighbor has one and I hear it coming from around the block. My bolt not so much.
@@samurphy It's out of warranty, So it doesn't affect anything. But, I'm looking forward to potentially getting a brand new HV battery pack for free, under the current recall.
If you want plausible deniability, you can short the fuse across the battery to burn it out and then put it back in. If you get pulled over, you can just say, "Huh, it looks like the fuse burned out. I'll get that fixed right away."
That is definitely a good suggestion. The one risk I see with doing this especially removing the speaker. If by chance you ever happen to hit a pedestrian you might end up in some legal troubles or at the very least some financial troubles.
Pulled over? I don't think a single cop in the entire country is going to say "And now lets have a look at that fuse box mister!" I think the whole thing about it being somehow "illegal" to pull a fuse on your own car is overstated. As mentioned elsewhere there are ICE cars that are almost as quiet as the Bolt in a parking lot. Bottom line - if you hit a pedestrian, you're going to be at fault. Noisemaker fuse or not, you're at fault.
@@curtbrackenrich7883 It's possible that you could get pulled over for not having a working noise maker. If it happens, you might get out of a ticket if you claim that it was working last time you checked, and then showed him that the fuse burned out. If you don't have a burned fuse, then you can't use that excuse.
