    I own the Iron and love it! I can make it sound good with any guitar amp combo using the low cut, mix, tone. Like Shawn my favorite clipping position is the middle because it sounds more open than the other two.

    Holy Fripp man! Wow! I've been trying to learn to play the first two minutes of this video all day and I'm not even close yet! Why you aren't on posters and kids lunchboxes is completely beyond me. Keep being awesome! I don't doubt that you will!

    You are an absolutely fantastic player and a great pedal reviewer. Like how you try to always play the same licks when making tone changes to the pedals. Great job!

    I bought one after watching this video. Love it. I’ve bought, sold, traded, a dozen midrange ODs but never got what I was looking for. This works right out of the box; everything centered sounds great. Works well with all my guitars and into a Boogie Mark. This one will be around awhile.

    Nice job Shawn- thanks for the demo. I just picked up a Pettyjohn Iron this weekend and am trying out the different tones. My amp is a super clean (Fender Blues Deluxe), and have been trying to get a subtle and articulate overdrive that doesn't muddy up on chords. I think this is going to do the trick. Guitar is a Fender Cabronita with TV Jones Brian Setzer pickups. Thanks!

      Hey Thanks David. I'm out on the road with Carrie Underwood so I don't have my Torp in front of me to tell you exactly which one I IR I ended up on. I'm pretty sure its the Vintage Live ML 4x12.

    Hi Shaun, first things first, you have a phenomenal channel. I know you're busy with the Carrie Underwood stuff but I always love your demos when you have time. As a music industry hopeful you are a real inspiration.
    My question is this, how do you have your Torpedo Live set up? I am having real issues getting my Torpedo Studio to do what I want and when I put pedals in front of my amp it compresses way too much and just sounds digital and dry. Your sound retains so much clarity and character that you can really hear the different guitars and pedals doing their thing, could you share your setup details? Do the Ownhammer Impulses make a big difference over the standard cabs and mic's offered in the box? Is an IR different from what comes standard?
    Thank you so much for any attention you're able to give this question, it would mean a lot.

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Aidan, thanks for your question. I'm using the OwnHammer 412 MAR-CB V30-EN SS Live Vintage IR. I keep it totally flat. No EQ, No room verb, no extra mic models and no power amp modeling. The reason I started using the Torpedo was because I needed a direct load and IR box from my Suhr SH 100 for the Carrie Underwood gig as we were moving away from ISO boxes for cabinets. I was really impressed with how close it sounded to my 2x12 cab with Cele V30s and a Royer/57 set up and decided to start using it in my studio at home because the consistency was stellar! The one thing I try not to do is let my input level to the Torpedo creep much above -6 on the meter. Anything above that could get a bit digital sounding. Other than that it's the IR I mentioned.
      YES THE OWNHAMMER IMPULSES MAKE A DIFFERENCE OVER THE STANDARD CABS AND MICS!! Sorry I could have made this reply a lot shorter but....That's how I roll man!! Thanks for your question Aidan and for the kind words.

    IMO the best video demo tones on the interwebs...great demo mate.
    So, is it too much to see something of the Chime and Iron used together?

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      YES IT'S TOOOOOO MUCH!!! Hahahaha...just kidding... I'm positive the two together will kill. So much so that I'm putting them both on a board.

    +Shawn Tubbs Shawn your playing and tone is always killer! I hope to get to see you live on tour with Carrie Underwood sometime soon! I'm thinking about getting a Torpedo Live, especially for home use and recording. What monitors do you use?

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Torpedo Live is killer for home studio use. My monitors are old school man...Event 20/20. They're like 18 years old.

      I've seen a lot of great players on You Tube,but I'm totally in awe of your ability to weave such an interesting build to what I consider an ultimate climax that is not only in the same class as Hitchcox or Orsen Wells but is ,in my opinion a gift you have to share with your peers.If that sounds like butt kissing then so be it,but few people have knocked me off my seat as you have.. Thanks

    hey shawn .. which one do you like better? iron or chime? what would you choose for an el84 vox style amp?

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah man....Yer killin me!! They're both so good!! I would say either would be fine with an 84 amp. If you think you'd be less apt to take as many solos I would lean toward the Chime.

    Knowing what you know now, do you prefer the Iron or the Gold that recently came out?

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really like the Gold. The Iron does sound more robust in the mids but if you love Marshall Plexi tones the Gold is hard to beat!
