I remember this. My company operated an airship (blimp) for Carnival at the time. We were in Long Beach for the unveiling of a remodeled ship. I remember the Carnival President and Marketing VP at the party that night telling me the headaches of bad PR. Things happen.
I was in Cozumel the day before this on a cruise lol. Weather was already really bad. We got told that there was a massive current already and it was just getting worse. Luckily nobody was hurt.
Went to Cuzumel on my honeymoon, it was our last port of call before heading back to Tampa. I had initially booked a tour of the Mayan Pyramids but changed it when I found out that they didn't let you explore them anymore. So I booked a 6hr party boat that was canceled due to 6ft seas. So we ended up just going and checking out the places around the port, and first found Carlos and Charlie's and had a drink that I swear was big enough for me to swim in. Then went upstairs to Senor Frogs and had a blast eating amazing food and drinking. They had 2-4-1 yards so we figured we would order 2 but they brought 4. Once they find out that you're on your honeymoon they just pour the liquor down your throat, literally. Ended up so drunk by the time we needed to be back on the ship that we didn't even go down to the dining room for the last nights dinner. Out of all the ports of call we had on that cruise I think Cuzumel was the best. We got incredibly lucky also bc had we kept the original date of Halloween for our wedding we would've either had our cruise diverted to other ports or canceled bc that year Cuzumel got destroyed by a hurricane but we got married in the beginning of October instead.

Edit: Pre-Emptive response: Acceleration (a) = Change in Velocity (dv/dt). Momentum (p) = Mass (m) * Velocity (v). If mass is constant, F=ma, so F=m(dv/dt), thus F=dp/dt. The latter was actually Newton’s original derivation.
So I did some real quick estimates. The Gross tonnage of Carnival Glory is 110kTonnes. That converts to 111,765,160 kg. I estimate the component of velocity that hit the Legend was around 3 knots, which is 1.54 m/s. I estimate it took about 2sec for the collision to stop. So if it took 2sec to change velocity by 1.54m/s, F=m(dv/dt) -> F= (111,765,160)*(1.54/2) = 86,059,173 N (Newtons, measure of force). For reference, that’s more than double the force of a Saturn V rocket engine, used to blast our space shuttles into orbit. Now, this is a super rough estimate. I don’t know what effect buoyancy has on the effective mass, I don’t actually know how fast it was going, etc etc. But at least you can see just what a big effect mass has on force.

Usually it will support the internal structure as well as the superstructure of the vessel. it goes from the very front to the very back. I believe what you're referring to is the Stern and Bow? The reason the bow didn't suffer much damage and the stern was very damaged is because the point of that ship is mostly solid metal. Steel. Very hard and very durable. That's the hull you referenced. But the part it collided with is just a substructure made of thin aluminum sheet metal and glass. No match for the solid steel of the other ship's bow.
