Pushyamitra Shunga (ruled c. 185 - c. 149 BCE) was the founder of the Shunga dynasty which he established by rebelling against Maurya Empire.
Pushyamitra is recorded to have performed numerous (at least twice) Ashvamedha Yajna to legitimize his right to rule.
The Buddhist texts claim that Pushyamitra persecuted the Buddhists, scholars have expressed skepticism about these claims.

Puspmitra Sung was real saviour of India and re established vedic religion and culture. Maurya empire was established by a brahamin Chanakya who made Chandragupta Maurya the emperor of India. Chandragupta Maurya was great emperor who defeated greeks and become greatest Hindu Samrat. Hinduism was later discarded by his grand son emperor Ashok who embraced Buddhism and under Ashok , Buddhism prevailed in India.
No bro Chandragupta Maurya accepted Jainism at the end of his life and he did sala khana (died upto fast)

Nicely depicted but there is no archeological evidence of vaidic religion before Asoka or during pushyamitra sung. As pushyamitra became king after assassination of earlier king Brihadrath so it is natural that people (Buddhist monks and general population) to oppose him and not cooperate with them. Further he must be Buddhist king only as written Buddhist texts and he must of destroyed things fom where he got opposition. He fought war with Mathura... which was Buddhist centre and power. So he has strong opposition in the country and finally assassinated as given in the Buddhist texts.
Almost all brahminical text written much later after thousands of year in the form of story and religious falvour with biases so can not be believed. Correct your observations and do not be biased.

Mahan Pushyamitra Shung was a senapati of last Maurya king Mahendra. The Maurya were not great but cruel and they got throne at the mercy of another cruel selfish Chanakya who did not shame to invite the Greeks to defeat his own king Maha Padamanand.
