To put a bit of perspective of when Rasputin was running around Russia, it was 1916 when he died. Directly in the middle of WW1, Aspirin was recently invented and used as a popular cure all. Guns became more popularly manufactured because of the war effort. The last Tsar of Russia wouldn't end their reign for another 2 years. In roughly 35 years after Rasputin's death, Television would become popular in most western homes.
All of this was just barely over 100 years ago.
