  • In 2018, a group of twelve boys and their coach nearly lost their lives trapped in a flooded cave. It was an incredible story that made headlines across the world. News led to a number of helpful souls trying to lend a hand to save these Thirteen Lives. It’s an inspirational story, and one ripe for a feature film telling. And the man who was the perfect voice for it happened to be filmmaker Ron Howard. The director collected an impressive cast, and has given us a powerful cinematic telling of this awe inspired tale. The cast he gathered includes Colin Farrell, Viggo Mortensen, Joel Edgerton, and Tom Bateman as the British divers who lent their time to help. It also features wonderful performances from Sahajak Boonthankit, Teeradon Supapunpinyo, Weir Sukollawat Kanaros, and Pattrakorn Tungsupakul.
We were lucky enough to speak to virtually all of the players during the Thirteen Lives junket, and the experience was awesome, especially when it emerged that Howard was a fan of the site! Thirteen Lives premieres today on Prime Video.

A world-wide community of cave divers who were hobbyists came together with the discipline of professionals. The Thai community was outstanding. It reminded me of watching how the crew on an aircraft carrier works together to the end result of catapulting Super Hornet Jets off the deck of the carrier. It could not be done without every soul participating and doing their job. Sobering. When the actual event was unfolding, I was watching every transmission possible. Recreating the event was as spellbinding.

An absolutely life affirming movie, and thanks to this series of interviews you could tell that the cast and crew understood and accepted the burden of properly telling this invaluable story. Also appreciated the tone and gravitas of this interview. Many thanks 🙏

JoBlo switched the two Thai actors' names. The guy is Weir and the lady is Ploy.

The missing story is that Rick Stanton and John Volathen of The British Cave Rescue Council initially found it too difficult and dangerous to penetrate into the cave and were about to give up when two other divers were called in, Ben Reymenants of Belgium and Maksym Polejaka of Ukraine.
Ben and 'Max' did ALL the ground work in way of exploring the right side of the T junction and laying of guide ropes through the most difficult sections- making the rescue possible and yet are barely mentioned in most articles and documentaries. Ben was the first to say the kids would need to be brought out in full face masks and was ridiculed and shunted off to manage the O2 tank replenishment station.
However both were recognized by The Thai Royal Navy and His Majesty The King to receive medal commendations.

Ben and Max should have been portrayed in the movie. It's a real shame.
