I loved Laverne and Shirley watched every episode while it aired..I actually had the opportunity to meet Cindy Williams at a Comic-Con years back in Novi, Michigan and she was one of the nicest and sweetest people that I have ever met..It was my first Comic-Con attending my friend and I were in another part of the building watching an anime film..When it had ended we were walking down this isle headed back and I felt someone close behind me..I stopped then turned around to see who it was and it was Cindy Williams..I was able to chat with her for a minute, she was eating a sandwich and was able to get a couple of pictures in before she went back to signing autographs..Like I said, she was very kind and considerate and it was an honor and a privilege to have actually met her..🌹❤️😁👍

Yeah not only that but Betty Garrett and Michael McKean left the show so it was only Laverne, Squiggy, Laverne's father, Carmine and Rhonda, but some episodes only featured Laverne and whatever guest star was on that week. It was a very much diluted show in the final season

I’m not sure I understand why they couldn’t film around Cindy’s pregnancy that doesn’t seem really fair to me. I pretty much lost interest after they split them up! In my mind it was like splitting up Starsky & Hutch. Both of the actresses were irreplaceable for the series. I hope Cindy got a new agent because it seems to me he was instigating their arguments.

jade blues, I agree with you that when the producers split them up, the show lost some of its charm. Although this isn’t an excuse, I have a feeling it boiled down to production costs: rewriting the scripts, redoing the camera blocking, rebuilding parts of the set(s), and bringing in new props.

I had always heard that the reason Cindy left the show was that she and Penny didn't get along. I did see Cindy say after Penny's death that they would get together at Penny's home, and watch movies or just hang out. It is nice that they were able to mend fences, if that were needed. I always watched L&S, as back in those days, only 3 channels, but I've never been a fan of physical comedy.

I think they did physical comedy the best... I can remember a few episodes that made me really laugh out loud. One was the candy stripers when the girl's were to change the bed sheets for 300lb patient that is asleep. They end up sliding under the hospital bed trying to move the man.
The other episode was the girls go on vacation to a tropical resort that is less than what the brochure said then to top it off a hurricane hits and the room their in starts to collapse around them, their writers were the best. One of the best tv shows ever made.

The other thing is Ed says the song was written in the key of Eflat and I argued that it was written, sung, and recorded in the key of F. Loved Laverne & Shirley. To me, the entire cast were more or less equal because they all added a special something to the show. If one was removed, it would be noticeable to the point of it not being the same show. Example to this is Milwaukee, once the setting from there was changed to California, it became noticeable to the extent of ruining the personality of the show.
I have to admit, though, that the removal of one of my favorite characters, Big Rosie Greenbaum, was heartbreaking for me. 😢

Ugh!!! I listen to Kate and Olive’s podcast. And they spoke only once about their relationship with their Dad. He was verbally abusive to them and physically abusive to Goldie. But I guess Bill is married for I think a fourth time and has 3 kids with her. But I guess he is totally different now and he seems like a better Dad this time around. I can’t imagine starting a third family in your seventies. And I don’t think he had any kids after Other then with Goldie, then Cindy, not the third wife and now 3 more with fourth wife. It’s to bad anyone who doesn’t deserve kids can have them. But some who want them can’t.

RIGHT!!! He’ll be around 90 when his kids graduate high school. I picture him walking his kid into Kindergarten and the teacher saying something about their grandpa walking them to class. Kate’s youngest is a toddler. So his youngest granddaughter is around the age of his youngest kid. My Dad was 31 and Mom was 28 when I was born and they had 2 more after me and 6 before me and they were one of the oldest parents in my class. So I can’t imagine how shitty Bill Hudson’s young kids feel.

She could have made out that she went on a trip for awhile to get away from everything, and she would be back in few months. It has been 35 years now so it doesn't matter. The series really went of the rails when the characters leap nearly a decade into the future having Laverne&Shirley swept up in Beatle Mania moving to the California of the 1960s. When this occurred at the start of the 6th Season both it and Happy Days were already over staying its welcome and what kept them on the air was watching more out of habit mostly. Happy Days ran for 11years and when its ragged end came even the actors were just hitting their marks for years just for a paycheck not much else. There might have been a 9th Season with Penny Marshall but part of her character go to New York so she would return and fortunately that debacle never helped because the well had gone dry as they say years before....

Was not a big fan of 70s TV, but there were a few exceptions. This show was one. It wasn't 'the best', or 'my fave' but it did feature Andrew & Leonard. I had seen them with Credibilty Gap, and, more often, as the duo, doing shows on college campuses. When cast on this Happy Days semi-spinoff,, I was anxious to see how they would parlay their bit into livingrooms across the nation. Although roped in by the producers, they, now Lenny & Sqiggy, were still undeniable personal faves. Because of their being cast as regulars, I then fell for the talents of Penny & Gary Marshall. Cindy Williams had a difficult job as 2nd banana to Penny, but that's what it boiled down to, and although, hard to take at times, Cindy did an admirable job as the terminally virgin role, to Penny's 'loosey goosey' stance. Edna, Pop, Carmine could have been minimized even more, in my opinion, or sidelined to occasional cameos at the best. Overused. The true link to the era was Penny's reach into her own childhood, that Gary masterfully pulled from her, or helped her to pull from her own experience. Milk & Pepsi. I fell over when that was first aired, as it was a childhood (the 50s) of mine, to the extreme, with the addition of Bosco. But without doubt, for me, understandably not everyone's choice, Lenny & Squiggy's 'burst in' appearences, brilliantly, helped carry the show, and Penny & Gary's nostalgic romp, to it's apex. Laverne was the girl in my classes, K-12, who for one reason reason or another, was always liked, or at least, appreciated. Thanks to producers for not ruining Lenny & Squiggy with a spinoff, it would have ruinied their hit & run effect. Leave that for Carmine. See where that got ya?

I think my love for the show is more nostalgic than my enjoyment at the time. Why people get upset at the choice of a cast member to leave is divisive. When a show is cast no character really has any indication of how it's longevity will commit them or obligate them. Every occupation has turn over and it's unrealistic to expect any actor to limit their opportunity for growth experiences or broaden their experiences. Attributing blame for a show ending or a character leaving is quite selfish when in the same position they would grow weary or resentful of the expection they place on hold their freedom of choice.

No, it was Cindy's pregnancy. Originally, the idea from producers was to incorporate Cindy's pregnancy into the show, but there was conflict between Cindy's husband/manager and the show's producers. He wanted more $$ and less working hours for her, the show thought he was too obstructive and just dropped her altogether.
