I will never love a console more than the 360. Not much for the console itself, but for how much fun I had playing multiplayer games with my friends in high school when everyone was on the same schedule

I was in 11th grade. I got kicked out of my first band. My girlfriend broke up with me. Then my xbox red ringed. That month sucked.
My mom cancelled her vacation and bought me the new Slim model. I've kept it on my shelf for the last 12 years, it never felt right to get rid of it.
About 3 months ago, I made video about a 360 era Tom Clancy game that has over 130k views now, and I get to make money playing Xbox 360 games.
I spent my first YT pay on a gift for mom. ❤

This generation needed the originality of the original xbox 360 & xbox live gold. Im talking about the old school gold that gave you good ass games full games. And.. the original servers for CoD before the remaster with full support and everything. If they (microsoft/xbox) would have KEPT the originality instead of shutting down and creating built in emulators on xbox1/ xboxS&X they would have won this generation of gaming but again Sony has showed us resilience even among this tuff economy.
*This is coming from a pc gamer whos gamertag ends in 117*

In terms of favourite memories for the 360 era, I have a few...
-going to Walmart with my family to buy the 360 and Guitar Hero, then coming home and all of us (Mom and Dad included) playing it on the plastic drums and guitars
-playing Halo 3 for the very first time and finishing the fight
-going to friend's houses for sleepovers and playing all sorts of games on the 360
-waking up at 6am in the morning to fit in a few hours of gaming before school
-playing my final match of Halo 3 on the original servers a few years ago when the servers shut down, winning a Slayer match on Last Resort, but everyone chatting on the mics and having a good time, saying goodbye

Nothing better than getting home from school and all the boys getting on MW2 filling up a whole team in ground war with people still being left out cause there wasnt enough room. EVERYONE was on the 360 back then.

I had a similar experience. Tactical Nuke incoming! We would assign roles for people. Our top slayers would go for nukes while not as accurate players would target harriers with stingers and run UAV/ counter UAV

So many great memories on the 360
    •Halo Reach
    •Destiny
    •Borderlands 2
Those were the big 3 for me
Spent a lot of time on Destiny 1 360 before eventually getting a Xbox one off of Craigslist to play The Taken King expansion

The gradual loss of information, creations, and art is something that's so sad to me. Think of all the many lost works of the ancient world, whether written or oral stories, physical monuments and buildings or simply the personal experiences and memories of a person. The loss of fully digital works and information in the modern day is strikingly similar, and arguably happening at a quicker pace than physical creations, and it makes me wonder how, in the future, will people look back and try to uncover or interact with lost digital media.

There are so many memories. From reaching Inheritor on Reach, playing those last Halo days on the 360, to just being forced to play with my brother every summer day on whatever game we could on split screen before trying to rush all the chores last minute ... It was all such a wonderful experience with so many technical challenges too. My NAT was incompatible with a friends so we could almost never comnect to ome another for custom games, but out was also something I couldnt figure out or change.
Visiting friends to play late night games or passing the comtroller around while just talking... Nothing beats it all. 🧡

Halo Reach. Need I say more. Grew up playing Halo 3 and gears with my older brother for a while and loved every minute, but it was always local. Sometimes even with our neighbours who were same age as my brother and I so it was perfect for local lobbies and stuff. But when Halo Reach came out in fall 2010, we convinced our parents to "let us" play online and we went and got one of those goofy wifi antennas for the 360. Reach was the first game I played on Xbox Live and it was just brilliant. Learning to get good at shooters, custom lobbies of those game modes like avalanche and cat and mouse etc. Playing invasion with 8 of your buddies at the time, some even from different countries that we just met in lobbies. I wonder what some of those guys are up to now. What a time to be a gamer. Thanks for this video man, great banter and discussion of this golden era im so grateful I was part of like many of us.

Halo 3 midnight launch is one of my favorite gaming moments with the 360. I was in 7th grade, and needed my Dad to go with me to pick up the game at GameCrazy. There were about 200 people in line, and my Dad was mad af. But he still waited with me : )

The days where Halo 3 would never leave your disc tray. Also probably bought a couple copies of MW2 from the 360 falling over. Learned to set it on it's side after a while.
Great discussion though. Certainly was an awesome era to play games. We'll definitely never see online like that again. I also think it's important to point out that the loss of communication online can also be blamed heavily on Microsoft cracking down and banning people

My best n favorite gaming memory of all time:
It's Christmas 2010, not even in high school, and I've been ripping every new COD with friends for a couple years at that point. Playing Halo for longer. I asked for a headset for Christmas. I was able to open one present early on eve, and I knew what box was my headset. Went right for it. Ripped it open, happy as can be and went straight to my fat 100 pound CRT and set up my brand new Triton. It was magnificent, I could actually hear footsteps! It was surreal to me as a kid.
I'm playing for a couple hours, and I get the "finish it up, it's bedtime" call and I fake saying, "alright, I'm finishing up!" sign off comms with whoever was online and went into dark mode to keep playing and using my new Triton. Careful to snap the TV off on event of a rogue door open.
I hear the rents go to bed... then I let a bit of time go by as to ensure shut eye was indeed initiated.. then I make my move.
I sneak downstairs to the Christmas tree. I knew exactly what I was looking for. We all know the right dimensions of the prized possession.
I spot it. There's 2 of them. I had a 50% chance of choosing correctly. I pick both up, look back and forth, shake them, then choose the right hand one. I swiftly run upstairs.
Ever so carefully, I peel back the tape ensuring that no wrapping paper gets ripped and the design stays in tact. I open just the bottom, just enough so I can slide it out from the wrapping, inch by inch to make sure the suction doesn't krinkle the wrapping paper.
I finally get it out, paper in tact, plan in motion. Fallout: New Vegas in all of its glory.
I run to my 360, absolutely in zeal of the feat I just accomplished. I pop that sucker in, and watch as my life literally changes overnight.
Mind you, I was a twitch shooter kid up until this point. I had tried Fallout 3, but did not see it through at the time. I played new vegas for hours, well into the early hours of the morning. When it had become late enough, and I had to close shop, I took the game out and carefully slid the still in tact game shapen wrapping paper over new vegas and carefully laid the tape back over the original spots. Making sure to retape with the same exact sized pieces of tape over the original to get them to stick again. I put it back under the tree.
The parents were never the wiser. That is, until I told them about it years on years down the line as an adult. Fallout: New Vegas went on to be my first proper RPG that I saw to completion, and what would kickstart my immense love and passion for RPGs and a deeper appreciation for games as a whole.
Anyone who read this story, thank you. I hope it sparked a memory of yours to reminisce on. Those were special days in the gaming community, ones that will always live fondly in the hearts of those that were able to take part. Dragoon, thanks for the lovely video as always. Always proving to be such a great voice on the platform. Thank you for the great community you have fostered. For as long as you make videos, I'll be here to enjoy them.

There’s a podcast that listened to not too long ago. It’s was called “The Xbox 360 Draft” and the podcast name is “The Back Page”. It was 2 guys who basically did a sports type draft of 360 games. They had a bunch of categories and had to pick 1 game per category. It was honestly really entertaining and it might make for a good video to make with your friend you have on this video.

I still find watching some of the old videos in my download history to be such a time capsule. It’s crazy how this console is from an era where watching new gaming content on TH-cam wasn’t a thing because studios didn’t have their own channels so any footage we saw was from fans downloading/capturing it and resharing it

Some great memories I remember are the avatar games. My buddies and I played a lot of full house poker, doritos crash course, and 1 vs 100.
My favorite memories are definitely staying up all night til I fell asleep with the controller in my hands, playing halo 3 custom games with friends. That was just a regular thing that happened every weekend
Great memories, and I'm glad we all have such similar and happy experiences and I love hearing about them

The last truly great generation of gaming, imo. The Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, as well as DS and PSP all had a ton of games I love to this day. One of my two favorite memories from the 360 is the Halo 3 launch, the first midnight release I ever attended. I was just out of college and hype for that game in my hometown was off the charts. The other memory I have is from summer 2009. Had a few days off from work and during one of those I stayed up all night to download the full version of Shadow Complex as soon as it was available on Xbox Live Arcade in the early morning hours. Never did that for a digital game before or after but I was really looking forward to that one as to me it seemed like the closest we were going to get to a 2D Metroid at the time.

The xbox 360 was my first microsoft console, I had only Sony for many generations. It kept RROD but I would keep sending it back and getting a used one cause I loved the console. It was during my college years, I had a job and lived with my now wife but alot of my work friends had one and we used to play Halo 3 and stuff all the time. Also playing Bioshock alone in one of my first apartments was something stuck in my brain forever. The game was so much fun and the I normally don't even pay attention to the story but the characters and the plot twist just had me going the whole time. Great video!

  • @Adam1Gee

Really loved this! My first games were Borderlands, Haunt, Kinect Adventures, Trials HD, World of Tanks and Minecraft. I came later to the party likely around late 2012 or sometime around then. World of Tanks on the 360 was different, I remember multiplayer chat. It’s something they no longer have, and now isn’t playable on the 360 anymore.
Unlike most I did continue playing on my 360 reliably until 2019. Stopped playing World of Tanks in mid 2018, Borderlands and Skyrim in 2019. Went back and cleared Haunt during 2020. I got back on post store shutdown and started playing again. It’s been a lot of fun.

Well put together discussion. Our entire school played 360. You could always find a party of 3+ people in nearly any game. Halo 3 (best gaming experience of all time), Cod4, Nazi zombies, MW2 (greatest game of my generation (our school went on a 200+game of domination win streak)), Minecraft, 1vs100, L4D, Gears 1 & 2, Civ on console, Battlefield (1, 2, 3, 1943), Guitar Hero vs. Rock Band, Lego games, GTA + Red Dead
An unmatched experience. I smile because it happened not because it is over.

For me, the Xbox 360 and having Xbox Live was like having my first social media. Seeing what games people were playing, seeing their achievements, their avatars. All the cool content in the store, felt like a place by gamers for gamers. Felt like a living breathing place. I love my Series X, don't get me wrong, and while the dashboard is nice, it just feels lifeless

So many fond memories playing the Xbox 360 but my best ones were definitely playing Gears, the campaign & online for all 3 was just too good for it’s time. I remember my best friend and I had an issue with 360 parties one day while playing Minecraft and we wasted so much time we had to go to bed because we had school or something the next day. Parties were consistently problematic after that day. And I'm pretty sure Minecraft messed with our 360s 💀

  • @IMDMeta

First things first you guys never mentioned the kinect. I wanted to go in this generation of consoles for a long time, but my dad had to test the kinect in a friend's house to convince himself to buy it.
To this day, when I enterro a fps lobby with someone having a open mic, I shout "TURN OFF THE KINECT!" 😂
If I'm not mistaken, I remember something about people posting on youtube videos where they command the kinect to turn off the xbox after that command patch in the console😅
And that's kinda the second thing. TH-cam. Peak of sniping clans. I loved all that. It was a dream of mine as probably it was for most teens/kids. Unfornutaly I was restricted to using theater mode in MW3 because recording gear were way expansive at the time here in Brazil.
Of course I had hundreds of hours wasted on Skyrim, that before I buy, I rented in a locantion (rent?) store close to my house, as many other games (we didn't had gamestop here also).
I think that's the thing about 360 era, not only the console and everything it did different, but also everything going on with gaming world. TH-cam, gamestop/renting, peak E3, and let's also remember the first big microtransaction buzz was in Skyrim with that horse DLC. Miss those days

But in the aspect of preserving 360. Like I said I have an RGH 360 so I can go on internet archive and download and 360 games or DLCs and put them on there including any OG Xbox game with white listing the modded console

For me, it was Minecraft halo three black ops, one model warfare three then eventually black ops two zombies with the shit all of the arcade games I loved I would play at 12:00 PM to 6:00 AM on the weekends cause I was the only time Internet was free With our Internet plan we had but if it wasn’t before 12, then it would be charged on our Internet plan and I always thought it was cool that you could get it for free at midnight all the way to 6 AM and on the last day of the month, my mom would let me play the Internet really early because each month the Internet data cap reset it so she said I could run it up as much as I wanted before it became dial up Internet and my brother and my friends online would have so much fun Xbox everything change and feel different. I was hyped when I got the Xbox one and retrospective that’s when I played less with friends. Also hated having to download the games and wait for the download to be done to play it, I love the way. Xbox 360 had everything set up. You could play the game download later. It always felt so great. The graphics were great and still hold up to this day. I wish you go back to those days. Kind of wish. I never had an Xbox one.

  • @SimplyTexy

BO1 was the first game I bought online for and there was truly nothing like it, BO1 was the best cod ever made.... also rockband, kinect adventures, just dance, minecraft and all those amazing games either on my modded 360 at the time or on my 360 for online play with arcade, the 360/ps3 console generation was truly the greatest and I think it will stay that way considering the direction consoles are going in now and social media kinda killed the whole social aspect of gaming it just doesn't feel special anymore ):

On a side note, I wonder how long Microsoft will keep the 360 service alive for in general, most 360 games are backwards compatible especially multiplayer ones so I'd say it's here to stay, but they did cut off OG Xbox Live quite randomly in 2010 so who knows at this point. Especially with some games getting shut down this year and last year, best to play while you still can.

I think people are more "chill" about the shutdown compared to other platforms because a lot of people havent liked/moved on from xbox in the past decade. Also a lot of the favored games have been preserved woth back compat unlike the ps3,wii and 3ds.

  • @forrandomsites3336
    @forrandomsites3336 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

I think a reason why people are a bit chill with the store closing is probably because most of them already know websites that have archives of most of the content that was on the Xbox 360 store. A lot of digital only titles and videos (arcade, indie, and even some games on demand) can be found in the internet archive, while most (if not all) dvd and digital rips are available on the seven seas, though of course you need a jtag/rgh console for that.
It's still sad though, also because ps3 is probably next, and I think sony has already started breaking and removing content from the ps store. Though it's impressive that it's nearly survived 2 whole console generations and you can still re-download or purchase backwards compatible games and play them on your 360.

okay, so I'm a little weird, because I was never involved in the whole xbox 360, social network, like halo 3, all that stuff. I had only ever had two consoles, the ps3, and the wii, both of which I have to this day. I have played so many good games on both of those, and then when I started to transition to PC gaming, the first game I played was Subnautica. weird first choice, but I loved it. subnautica might be one of my top 5 games, but my number one is still Ratchet and Clank: a Crack in Time. A ps3 game. THere was something special about that era, and I'm sad that I missed out on it. I remember the nights when my dad and I would play motorstorm: pacific rift for hours on end, but I can't remember the last time a modern game has made me feel that way. I'm really feelin' the zoomer saying of "born too late to explore the earth, born too early to explore the stars," because that era is really something I wish I was a part of, but I was just born too late.

My story with the Xbox 360 starts with me when I was about to hit 9th grade in 2009, that's when I finally got my 360 because of me keeping my grades up and in that same year later got Xbox Live for the first time..
Though the story goes back to when I remember before we got a 360 in 2006 that my father rented or bought for a bit to play a couple of games. Because shortly after he sold or returned it to where we got stuck with the fucking Wii for three years. I hated that thing so much, while everyone was playing Halo 3 launch and me missing out on the blades dashboard, the Halo 3 beta I got stuck with the fucking Wii, which I've grown to despise that console with a burning passion. Granted I was still pretty young back then, I was in 7th grade when Halo 3 came out, and it didn't help I had pretty strict parents when it came to video games. Especially since I admit I kinda was an ill behaved kid growing up through elementary and middle school.
Flash forward to the late 2009 was when I finally got a 360 for us to own as a family from me getting my grades up. Several months later was when I got Xbox Live for the first time and I managed to get Halo 1 and 2 for the original Xbox. So I got to experience Halo 2 online on the OG Xbox Live on my 360 before the servers shut down within the next few months. A month after I got Xbox Live, I finally got Halo 3. I remember I made a decent amount of friends over Xbox Live through Halo 3, and Halo 2. The screaming laughter and all the fun custom games and matchmaking we used to play. I remember on New Years from 2009 to 2010 was probably the best night I ever had staying up late playing that night.. The landscape of on line on Xbox Live, the internet, and even TH-cam was vastly different that it is now. For better or for worse, depending on how you look at it. (I might say for worse on many aspects.) I think it's safe to say I had more fun on Halo than I did with COD. Infact, I'm a outlier here I started hating COD by like Mw2 if not Mw3 and getting so sick of that series. I think probably because i was partially bullied in school for being a Halo fan but I was also getting tired of this series coming out yearly. So my COD fatigue started a lot sooner than everyone else did here at some point. (I missed the Reach beta because I was grounded D:)
Think the best memories I had was the group of friends that was formed during the 360 days. Which some of whom with that group I still talk to this day, however real life priorities like family and work prevents us from all getting together to play games together. From playing Mass Effect 3 MP, Halo Reach custom games, Bf3 (fucking loved Bf3,) Minecraft and many more. And before they took it off, watching anime with my friends on Netflix. Those were good times, those times in which were my final years of High School. (I graduated in 2013.) I know a lot of people like to hate on High School, i'm not gonna lie I miss High School or at least that era and age you were at when life was simpler. I'm a firm believer that life goes downhill after High School.. Back then in general, despite my teen depressive state. It was a much simpler and happier time, my grandparents were still alive, my childhood cat was still alive, my parents were healthy and happy, my whole family were still together, and yeah..
I think its safe to say also if it wasn't for Xbox 360 and among many things, I would've never met my wife. My wife has been the center of my life since we got together, she's the one that kept me moving forward in life and pressing on and working harder.. I think it's safe to say also, without her. I would've blown my brains out... And I'm not joking about that either.
I think my only regret with the 360 is not being experience it sooner and having the money for all the games I missed out on and not experiencing them when they came out. I didn't get like L4D or Gears of War until a little later when I had money of my own, games in which i preferred the SP and PVE over the MP. And many other games that i've been buying digitally on the Marketplace and physically to invest and playthrough at some point in time. Though, most of which I missed out MP..
I think though its safe to say also, my favorite game on the 360 was no doubt Halo 3 and even Reach. Back when the series was at it's peak and those days playing matchmaking and trying to get better. (I suck at games.) Or the days of laughing uncontrollably from the hilarious custom games. Those days can never be beat. And gaming was just in a better place, like something was finally turning despite some issues here and there.
Now gaming isn't really in a great spot or a spot we all want it to be, and it's much different than it was back in 2007 through 2011. The world is a much different place than it was back then as well. And I wouldn't say for the best at all, its a much darker time. I hate to sound like a doomer and get a little political, but we're living in quite a dark era for entertainment like gaming and movies, also socially, politically and economically as well.

Take it from me there's alot of gamers are pissed off, sad and upset that the shut down happened... personally I'm pissed on how they shut it down cause it was led to believe that they were gonna close in the night time but yet outta nowhere in the middle of the early afternoon they just decide to close it with no warning or nothing smh... they need to make it where we can still download all the free stuff in the store like the themes, gamer pics, demos, videos, etc but u can't do nothing... the store is still there u just gotta access it a different way now... and the dashboard look soulless and empty only three columns now and they stretched out the squares to rectangles which look horrible... they need to fix that and rework it and let us download all the free stuff atleast
