I just got mine a couple weeks ago, quite similar to your F Xiao, 3 sections. I too prefer the non sectional flutes, this one sounds very good though and appears it may last a long time and the tuning is very good. I enjoy practising along side with you playing in harmony. I'm also grateful to be a flute maker, if my flute cracks or slight damage at some point I just may be able to repair it. Btw there is a specific method for pulling apart your flute at the sections in such a way that causes less wear and less chance of distorting it at the joints, learned from Riley Lee. If the joints become loose, a minute amount of bee's wax does can remedy that. Your videos and your approach encourage me to practise and play daily. You've provided a beautiful and great selection of songs for any beginner and for the more experienced players. Btw, are these considered to be "healing music"? I have a library consisting of Chinese music for healing and meditation, and I sense consistencies. I have a passion for music that heals peoples' spirits and soul. - Mark in 🇨🇦 Blessings, peace.
Awesome! Very cool to have you here. Yes, for the joints, it is best to not disconnect them that often but if necessary that is a good tip to preserve them. A good trick from shakuhachi practice is to grab the joint with one hand and then lightly tap that hand with your other hand. It slightly disconnects the pieces without causing much damage that a direct pull would. As far as healing music, I think this applies to everything at a certain point. However, most of these tracks are popular songs, adaptations, and more contemporary music. A few of the later ones are traditional pieces and do approach this idea but are not strictly or commonly referenced in that way.
I just wanted to say that these videos/resources in general are really valuable. You are single-handedly ushering in a mini xiao renaissance. I have four seasons down for the most part, just need to get the tempo and sustain a bit tighter, but moving onto this and planning on practicing both. Very well graded, this feels just a bit harder without being overwhelming. You're a great teacher.
Thank you so much!!! I just apreciate every Video from you. Thank you, thank you thank you. I just started the Shakuhachi afther seeing your Videos and afther seven Years practicing Taiji and Qigong. Now recognising the shakuhachi forcing me to take absolut control of my breath. What is not to less important for meditation. 🙏
very nice song and good tuto :) i wonder where we can buy this instrument you play with ? ^^ , merry christmas and thx for all you video ( music and kungfu and so ^^)
Breathe from the belly. Many times in the beginning we will put too much pressure in the chest and shoulders. Stay away from doing this by engaging the core and "pushing" air out as opposed to breathing too heavy. Do not have any "Ha" sound or hot air in your blowing. It actually does not take too much pressure to get a good sound.
Hmm. I haven't played that. But most woodwinds do have very similar ornaments and variations. Of course each has it specialty. Xiao's specialty is it's versatility. :)
@@xxxxx5897 Great. That is the best to start with. If it is F or lower the spacing gets farther away and will be more difficult. Keep working on it and try to get you wrists more relaxed and even with your fingers. You will get it!

It took me a while to get "Four seasons" right, but I'm finally here. I'm enjoying this so much and making solid progress. Thanks once again!

Your channel is so under-rated
Thank you! As long as it helps those it reaches, I am happy!
Jake, I am loving these. They are helping my Xiao playing skills so much. I hope you are well. - Antonio
Hey, Antonio! I am glad to hear that! I heard that you were getting a flute. ; ) What key did you end up going with?
@@WuDaoMusic My flute is in the key of G. I love it!

Does you use any breathing method?, i'm able to hit the notes, but i seem to run out of breath very quickly.

The ornaments sound so like tin whistle ornaments.

Thank you from brittany,france...
You are welcome!
Actually, am I the only one who cannot make a sound playing 5? Is it because of the way I breathe or is my finger too short ??😂😂
It could be a little of both. :) Everyone has trouble starting off with the lowest note. What key of xiao do you have?
@@WuDaoMusic I got the G with 8 holes
