I'm really happy with this one, and I'd really like to replicate the vibe and flow of this one in concurrent Burb episodes. Here's to more of this in the future man! As always check out Chris Piche (Heyopc!) Link to him and more of his BOMB music in the description! And shout out to my buddy Zornok for being down to help set up shots and film everything!
Murdapan was a term created by an old gang called KAOS Crew. Their territory was in Mattapan. They were into it with another gang, Corbet St, which is located on the border of Dorchester/Mattapan but is in Dorchester.. They were litteraly right across the street from each other. That street is Morton St.
I dont know how you do it but you manage to consistently somehow manage to make the most interesting, insightful and entertaining videos on the platform on things that I generally wouldnt care about. Kudos to you dude your content is amazing
This is really awesome, showing us the other side/the true side of a place often seen as a murder capital when in reality it's a place like anywhere else you go, yeah there will be problems to deal with much like where I used to live around downtown Louisville and even the high school I went to. The stories you heard about Iroquois high made it sound like a death wish when in reality it's just a school filled with people going through their own problems.
It’s crazy that all these burbs that are demonized by those around them are all just victims of being in the shadow of Boston. Good on you to break the stigmas and show the people that truly care for the future.
I’m from New Bedford, MA, which has its own history but I never really knew about Mattapan’s history beyond being called “Murderpan” by a lot of my family. I use to do drug test collections in 2016 and I’d be in Mattapan or Dorchester at 3AM and nothing ever happened, guess I wouldn’t be so lucky 20-30+ years prior. Great Video Ryan, I haven’t watched anything since the grump vids and the Evangelion ones, but I really love the care and respect you put into this. I look forward to watching the other Boston Burbs vids. Subbed.
Had this vid on watch later for around a month - so glad I pulled myself together to watch it. Your organic storytelling has vastly improved since the fist couple vids. Glad to see you grow as a filmmaker, looking forward to more great stuff. 🙌
This is immensely informative. I knew that there is still a heart and soul to these communities that saw nothing but oppression and hate from the powers that be and it is awesome to see it in action. Thank you!
Mattapan (murderpan) is not a suburb but a neighborhood of Boston. Mattapan was a decent and safe neighborhood when I was a kid in the late '50s and early '60s. It became a high crime area in the late '60s after the 'great migration' occurred. And its been a high crime dangerous neighborhood ever since the 'great migration; from the south.
Simcos original owners where greek from when Jewish Greek Irish German lived in mattapan pre 1960s then after 1960s Caribbean and Latino moved in the neighborhood

I worked for the medical examiner's office. Mattapan, Blue Hill Ave, Roxbury kept us busy back in the day sadly. Glad to hear things have improved.
I love these videos, definitely making me want to travel and explore!

Growing up in Dorchester’s Codman Square area, I don’t set foot in Mattapan because I have no business being over there.
Good for you. I’ve lived here so far for 15 years and it has only gotten better and better over time.
Glad to see a great place get some light shed SALUTE
