Perfect tribute. Eddie was the type of guitarist who felt the significance of the overall sound itself and feeling of the music. Every note of his playing was special and played with purpose. What I love about John Frusciante's playing, is that every note that he plays sounds like it's carrying the weight of the world. 🤟

I always like how John serves the song and doesn't over play or show off like most elite guitarists do. Even when he's shredding it still fits the song. Even though it's ridiculously fast he's still holding back rom what he's capable of doing
@@igor_stepanov Maybe I should have clarified....he's playing tastefullly ridiculously fast. Sure one can go faster but it probably wouldn't make sense for this song
They somehow captured the essence of their live performances in that solo. Wow Edit: the part at 5:07 sounds like a throw away your television live outro, this is fucking amazing
Reading their tweets about this song gave it such a powerful dimension. Especially ‘Please don’t remember me for what I did last night’. Rest In Peace Eddie
As a Dutch man I'm very proud my favorite band made a tribute song to Eddie van Halen. It is gorgeous, boys. So much emotion, so much John....ahhhh you guys never let me down. I'm looking forward to the new album
90% of their material is.... last great band... all stopped post 1994 when it comes to great music aside from few leftovers and this band is one of them
I can’t stop playing this song. It gives touches my soul. I grew up with Van Halen. I was 13 when 1984 was released. Still one of my all time favorite albums. I was devastated when Eddie died. A legend gone way too soon. Thank you RHCP for making this beautiful tribute to EVH.
Who tf cares about technical guitar playing which doesn't evoke emotions in the listener? Music is for listening pleasure and not for technical analysis😄
John's solo is such a beautiful send up to the legend without stepping on his toes. This whole song is just such a wonderful tribute to one of the absolute best to have ever done it ❤️ 👏 🙌
watching John play this solo live was one of the most amazing moments of my life. I just couldn't believe what I was presenting. I'll never forget that
Nice tribute to an absolute legend. John's guitar is channeling Eddie's fire and magic. It's done so eloquently and in his own style (just as Eddie had his own unique style). This is so beautiful. Thank you RHCP. Nothing but respect for you guys.
If anyone want's to hear the best live performance of this song check out RHCP Eddie live at Rio de Janeiro 2023. this is the very best guitar solo for Eddie i've heard. let me know if i'm wrong.
The power in this song is so uplifting and I just love this. Frusciante’s solo combined with Flea’s bass is such an amazing combo. Wow. Great singing, great instrumental ❤️ love u RHCP
This song made me feel just like I did when I found out Eddie had passed. The solo was a genius-level tribute without slipping into mimicry. As an Eddie fanatic who graduated in '85, the line "It's only 1983" hit me like no other line A.K. ever wrote. Oof. Time to give "Women and Children First" another spin.
I understood most of the references. “Amsterdam” his background is Dutch, his father was from Amsterdam. Also I loved the reference to “Hot for Teacher”, about him getting aroused “Little sombrero, cause teacher was way too hot”. Ha

that is what makes him so great to me. He has a very high level of technical ability but still has lots of passion and emotion in his playing. Usually you get one or the other. Saw them live in Dallas last Sunday. They are just on another level. Best show I've ever seen. John Frusciante's guitar screaming through the stadium, Chad's thunderous drums. Flea and Anthony with the next level energy. Unforgettable.
Energy is the word! I saw them in Dallas, the energy between band and crowd just washed over the place. Can't remember the last time I had that sustained feeling at a gig, let alone in a giant stadium. Here's hoping/expecting another tour for the new album.
I saw them in Vegas, California and Toronto. Every show was a unforgettable experience brother, not better, not worse, unique. I've been to 28 concerts, these last 3 were the most touching ones with John back. Don't forget me live is something else man...
This is just some raw ass, borderless Pepper Magik. We are just living in a bonkers time, it’s amazing. They are truly returning to that dream canteen! Long Live Eddie
OMG.....this song is jaw-dropping and amazing! Super-clever lyrics and Van Halen drops .... and John's guitar solo becomes more devastating with every listen. They did EVH proper. So proud of this band!
Okay. I'm 72. I was at the Rolling Stone's 1st ever American show in '64 (Swing Auditorium...) and have been a life-long rock music lover. Until... '94? New fangled, grungy stuff? Passed me by. I just kept listening to the same old stuff, like old people do. Leslie West, Johnny Winter, Jeff Beck. But the short clips on the internet surprised me with Flea's speech at the RR Hall of Fame and that led me to two weeks of deep immersion of this fantastic band. Allen Thicke show up to today. That's too much back story. Sorry. The soaring whirl Mr. Frusciante takes us on here is as wonderful as anything I've heard in these SIXTY YEARS of living in the music.
Went to a concert last month, whole stadium went nuts when they first heard the opening thinking it was By the Way. People weren't too disappointed when they played this song instead. Plus they played By the Way later on anyway lol

The mix and tone for this song is soo crisp. This is the cleanest track I've ever heard from them. They really captured the live sound here. It sounds very honest and true to who they are right now.
I love John’s solos where the guitar(s) sound like beseeched, screaming cries of a mother’s fears for her family and child(ren). Pure emotion. Solace and shots of uncertainty drilling the cerebrum.
its so incredible how John emulates Val Halen in guitar tone and emotional electricity just as apt as Anthony does with his lyrics. absolutely mind-blowing tribute!
@@durgamy9457 I know, I know, I was just making a joke out of the original typo, being that there *is* a character in Dexter's Laboratory/PPG called Val Halen. He's a Nordic god of shredding, as you might imagine.
This could be the best studio frusciante solo I’ve heard by far, he has faster and more complex stuff in other songs but this one felt so emotional thanks to flea’s bass lines
The outpouring of intense emotions from John’s guitar playing is incredibly deep. It actually sounds like he’s mourning, a truly weeping guitar. I get teary eyed every time I hear this song, from the very first note. It really strikes a profound chord and resonates with every Ed and RHCP fan. Thank you for creating this heartfelt tribute to the GOAT. ❤️🔥😢
Such cool guitar techniques going on here. Ive been hearing fusion guys do stuff like this for years but not in a particularly accessible context. (Ex. Bending strings before activating them and then lowering the pitch) Frusciantes really good at taking that stuff and handing it down so everyone can enjoy it. What a killer riff and an absolutely devastating solo. Flea does the same stuff, by the way. He takes jazz that is complicated in every way it could be and he distills it to small enough portions it can be in the radio and instantly be recognizable. Its pretty clear that lately Kiedis is saying the first thing that comes to mind and owning it - that's the opposite of contrived lyrics. Its not all that different from someone like bob dylan. They've covered one of his songs before and if you didnt know it you'd think they were any old kiedis lyrics. All of these guys are top of their game. Smith got to do an AVH fill at the end. I saw them live this year and you really need to hear chad play with them live to understand how great of a drummer he is. These drum tracks are to drill the rhythm into our heads, but his live playing on literally every song is like a constantly changing solo that exerts unrelenting pressure. Also the video reminded me of listening to their music decades ago with computer generated visualisers. That was a serious hit of nostalgia. Aura t09 makes a lot of creative choices that hit just right. Shes tuned into what works. Last point, its good to hear frusciante playing with stereo imaging for his solos because thats just as much giving dimension to the sound as any other factor in his playing. Hes also doing super cool octave displaced pedal tone stuff thats super prominent on his style of playing from when he wasnt in the band. Great to hear that imported as well.
@@BeyondTigerMilk you're right, they have existed elsewhere. My point is they're very common in less popular instrumental genres like fusion and less common in others.

John's solo here is one of his best..
Perfect tribute. Eddie was the type of guitarist who felt the significance of the overall sound itself and feeling of the music. Every note of his playing was special and played with purpose.
What I love about John Frusciante's playing, is that every note that he plays sounds like it's carrying the weight of the world. 🤟

Pre-bends are hardly fusion exclusives
Amazing review and analysis!
