I don’t need a new multitool, but I really just want to support what Roxon is doing. I’m picking one up. This type of innovation needs to be rewarded.
They need a minimalist handle: no pliers, 2 slots thick and will accept 2 long and 2 short tools. That would be very appealing to a lot of people…
They are on it
@@maxlvledcWhat does this mean exactly?
@@Rxn2016 They also make non-pliers based multitools, and will likely release modular versions of them
@@qwertwert21 I'm aware that they do. I was just hoping that his comment meant he knew something was already in the works.
@@Rxn2016 I think it's more about suggestions here. So far the flex is a nice base platform. But as I see it doing a lot of variants will make the system more powerful.
The ultimate thing would be bars where some can accept two handle tool heads.
So people can build their own frankenstein multitool.
Although with the current system multitools with a base tool and bars should be fine. So it will expand upon the platform.
Sometimes it's nice to just have a small multitool, other times it's better a small one.
I think they need a lock pick set tools
Yeah but wouldn't that be better in bars ? I mean in a knives versions of this product. So on handle gets the tension bars while the other gets the picks.
That's a click on 1, nothing on two, three is binding
@@starkparker16 nice click there 😀
Check out covert instruments.
@@michaelgrova225 yeah they do sell this stuff but having bars from roxon can allow you to tailor the whole thing.
It's just incredible that a completely unknown company came up with this !!
I liked the idea of the GOAT but they screwed up the design, it's a block. But the Roxon is really smooth and contoured and incredibly versatile !
The other fantastic feature is, you can buy replacements for broken tools !!
So impressed !!
Goat tool has that as well
I like the excitement. I hope it lasts. Previous attempts, like the Coleman ProLock, the Quirky Switch, and even the GOAT have fallen short of the goal of becoming the great multi tool with exchangeable parts. Time will tell.
Roxon is actually a pretty well established and known company.
GOAT was created by a regular guy with no multitool manufacturing experience. I prefer the small blockiness of the goat over the rounded banana shape of the flex.
Goat has a lifetime warranty. If a tool breaks you just send a pic and they send you the tool.
This is cool as it gets, Im a Leatherman fan boy and wish they would do something like this but can you imagine how much they would charge for a implement
The next generation of this one could become very interesting.
SAK will not be providing this level of customization, and if Leatherman does, who will be able to afford it?
yes, this is great but it is totally improvable.
@@sda4jesus1 Agree. And as muchbas it hurts, i think we have to forget about Leatherman, they now live on a different planet lol
I’ve been thinking about getting a custom SAK for a while now, but this is even better because it supports a company that seems to be worth supporting!
They kind of remind me of what Knafs does; encouraging you to take apart your tool and modify it with your own custom parts
Edit: just preordered one
I'm half tempted to buy one with a bladeless tool set, just to encourage them to support that use case. :-)
Nice part is that it's always going to be an option.
I can already see more extra short third party tools to fit right next to larger hex/torx implements that take up 2 spaces.
the fact they are selling blanks makes me think that Roxon is moving in the right direction with this multitool allowing people to mod it how they want it making specialist tools for their given niche. I would however love the option to have a separate handle that you could put the scalpel in to for finesse work or the bit driver to have a more ergonomic screwdriver or the files just to have a more comfortable handle on the files even the scissors so its more slimline and not getting caught up on the bulk of the multitool. I'm a furniture maker and have a non standard tool set need for a multitool and this fits the bill for me cant wait to get one and mod that small serrated blade in to a kiridashi style marking knife.
They are working on a handle similar to victorinox already. As soon as I get it will show it off.
@@maxlvledc Ooo... Now we're talking! Especially of it's fully tool compatible.
They could also do a small screwdriver handle that has a locking system that accepts a tool
I wasn’t going to do it, but you convinced me! It was a blast overthinking each tool and imagining the perfect loadout.
Mine just arrived and I’m super happy! One note about the fish scaler, though. I have mine installed because of the end. It’s super useful to have a pusher/puller for small things in tight spaces. Also, you don’t need to worry about cleaning it if you use it on fish because you can just take it out of the frame and use it separately! I kinda want to go back and get a couple more tools to try them out, also.
Bit driver implement for klein style double end bits would be perfect.
I bought the $6 dollar small Cabela's multi-tool 4 years ago and I installed the tools I want from a small Leatherman multi-tool. ✅ The small Cabela's multi-tool has star screws that allows it to be taken apart easily.
Awesome video. Thank you. This definitely makes me want it even more.
I pretty much ordered mostly what you say to get with a few exceptions. Looking forward to getting it. Roxon is rocking on! I really like their knife with all the blades.
I would use the long scalpel implement, because you then have a good handle if the hole multitool does not fit.
Wow, super cool! Definitely a step in the right direction for multi tools! Pocket clip is a good addition as well.
Awesome content thank tou for covering this in detail
Haha so true about the descaler. I had one on a old Victorinox and it took forever to clean!
Great video! glad I watched before buying!
I have to give it to Roxon, they really outdid themselves here. This is a wonderful looking tool. Have not seen it in person yet but I have already ordered one on the website and ordered most of the tools to go with it. The one handed blade is the only thing I wish they would have done and then it would be a perfect tool for me as well.
I wish the flash had tools that could be swapped. D2 , one hand open blade. I have several Roxon tools. The knife that can change blades on is awesome!!! I grab the flash without thinking about it. Good size , good tools.
Man this is such a game changer. There are tools that are on multitools, that I never ever use on a daily basis, but there are times when I need them for a few days.
Like a can opener. Useful when on a camping trip, but not much else. If im going camping I want a small and lightweight can opener, but for normal daily use I wouldnt. With this, I can just swap out something I wouldnt need on a camping trip and bring a can opener instead.
Same goes for a ferro rod, saw, etc.
omg, I'm so buying this now. thanks

I just bought a LM super tool… really tempted to try one of these out
love this if i had not just got my ark for christmas. I would buy of these and not ask for a ark. thanks for the share! stay awesome!
This is exciting been waiting to buy something a little nicer than my budget multi gang
Hm, I really like the idea, I just have two issues with it as of now:
1.) The 4 tools you mentioned happen to somehow fit, the tool is NOT designed for 4 long implements and the website clearly states 2 long implements (and also their configurator only works with 2 long implements) - so this is more of a hit-and-miss off-label use, where you have to know and experiment which tool you can combine with which.
2.) How much does the tool weigh? It looks pretty heavy(?) I guess that's my "biggest" gripe with it: I LOVE that I can customize it, but fully equipped it will cost around 100 bucks. Which is fine, but for my personal use case, I really just don't have a workplace requiring me to use tools daily and for private use I just want something as light as possible with the tools I really need - so this whole customization to me would make a lot more sense on a low weight, smaller frame. I used to carry a Wave and it was actually already more than I wanted to EDC. But it had the tools I would want. For use cases where I don't really care about size or weight I would likely rather buy a cheaper "full fledged" tool to just keep in my car or at home.
So while I really LOVE the idea and also the price point (I know I mentioned it's 100 bucks, but I think it's still pretty "cheap" for a fully customizable and especially open sourced tool)... I am afraid it's just not for me. Which is fine. ^^
Finally, I get a main 4 of blade, file, scissors and saw in an easy to use unit. plus a decent choice of small tools. what is not to like. I look at all my Multitools and think why do I have to modify , chop and change to get what I want and then, Bamm along it comes. Cheers
i NEED A NEW MULTI TOOL
doing some research to winde down the results
modification makes it even more of a wish list to get
Would love to see the mini version!
I am definitely happy about the bicycle spoke tool. I am going to wait for a while, to see if more tools come out. I want to buy once, cry once. The chisel is definitely awesome. I will probably end up putting the bicycle tool and phillips in my pocket tool pouch, that I keep 1/4 inch bits in and the rest keep in the tool. This way if I need any optional tools, I will be able to switch them out. You could do the same with the file, can opener and the hex bits, if you want to have it for just in case situation, but don't want it in the tool all the time. Because of that, I definitely want this. You could even put the bit holder in your pocket tool pouch and have 3 more small tools in and change them out, when you need the bit driver. I just now thought about that. 😀
I hope the make a T Shank holder
Exactly what I was looking for… went to their site and had questions that you fully answered.
Only other type of blades I am interested are curved blades already makes for the Phantom:
BA12 Serrated knife 69.5mm 8Cr13MOV 56-58HRC
BA13 Electric knife 54.5mm 8Cr13MOV 56-58HRC
I just pre-ordered it.
Thankyou for this video. I was about to write this tool off since only having two long tools would be a waste to me. I can grind that bit of the scissors no prob to make a tool that works for me. Cant wait for a magnacut one hand blade to come to the 3rd party market for this lmao.
I imagine there are some doctors and EMTs out there that like the piece of mind that the long scalpel holder gives them. the long one is much more usable if you take it out of the tool. so it's probably better for emergency medical interventions, like a tracheostomy or to fix a collapsed lung.
They need the option for a nice blade steel as well
I’d like to see some type of dedicated extra tool storage that could hold a bunch of unused tools, as well as some 1/4” bits...Especially if it was incorporated into a belt sheath..
Then one could have access to a lot more options, if one was willing to sheath carry the tool.
I’d also like to see a dedicated full length pry bar made from tool steel.
They've got the unserrated knife just backwards; I want the spine straight, and the belly on the edge.
Crosscut must be much coarser, like so bitey at first that it needs some breaking in. That'll get a lot of work done fast, and as a bonus will provide increased longevity as a capable file.
I cant believe I love it so much n don't have it yet . I'm getting ashamed of my Leathermans here . Thanks max!
Just for those curious, if you buy one frame, and one of each implement, it's $220.00 total before tax/shipping. But, you're going to have a lot of extra implements. So either a second, or even third frame to hold them all, or be more selective and only get what you need. Personally, I love the idea of the design, I did pick up a GOAT, which is good, but not great. That said, I'll probably wait and see on this one. Roxon is a pretty solid innovator, so I won't be shocked to see some serious improvements in future designs.
A good hack, it still doesn't really bother me tho that it supposed to hold 2 long tools as its easy to swap them out. A nice really well designed pouch with some slots for spare tools and a 1/4 inch bit set would compliment this tool well , or even better a small hard case for spare tools and spaces for 1/4 inch bits.
Unless it has a secondary use I will not bother with any of the screwdriver tools and just use the 1/4 inch bit holder.
I love the modularity here and that it's not in a #Cr crap steel. Excited to get a tool that has what I want but nothing I don't need especially the blade.
They should make a thin handle that you can put one tool in or maybe one on each end... you could pull saw, scaler, file out of main unit, pit it in "handle" and rock it like a blade..put it back in big tool when clean and done....
When you get the bit adapter for this tool, you should compare it to the one from the GOAT. Also compare the two scissors.
I get my Roxon, Roxoff tomorrow! Early shipping
I really love this modular future we're heading. My only nitpick about it, and this applies to GOAT as well, is those release levers/tabs, I know modularity is the main selling point but having them obnoxiously out like they're supposed to be the most accessible part of the tool is a miss for me. Easiest access should be reserved for the most used tools like the drivers, scissors, or knife.
Seems like I would really like this over my goat tool. Wished this one came in black or at least with black scales.
t6, t8 and t10 bits would be awesome
would love to see a sim card removal tool, a utility knife/standard box cutter blade holder/quick disconnect USB holder/ and a module to make the unit itself thicker to hold more things, and a module to hold their standard Larger scissors that they have on their multi-tools as well. Does the magnetic bit holder take a mini ratcheting wrench as well?
You could do some shorts showing set ups for different purposes e.g. edc, bushcraft, fishing, hunting, etc.
Great idea
I wonder if they will make a replaceable plier head next! Swap it for wire stripping plier, or shears! Or add in Leathermans file/saw exchanger!
I’m already excited for someone to start making Leatherman bit style holders for the roxon, because I’m just in love with it, I’m getting one of those nextool e1 and taking the blade out to have as my take anyware tool, followed by a scalpel roxon, if I need to go bladeless I just toss out the craft knife and scalpel! I will be the greatest hotelier ever to have existed! Muhahahah hahahahhahahahah 🔥
Got a Phantom after watching your videos to finally replace the kinda crappy multitool I'd had for years. ...Now thinking I'll need one of these later this year, on top of the 502UC that I was planning...
This looks great! I wonder if Roxon is planning to open this up to a single or two implement pocket knife form factor
Yeeep
For the hex drivers I was thinking if you could use the 6mm with a 1/4 to 1/4 hex adapter. This would be a slimmer way than the actual bit attachment to use 1/4 bits.
Could you do a video on how the blade lock works? I want to preorder but we need not locking blades in the uk and a lot of Europe so I’d have modify the blade to prevent it locking. Night into that would be really helpful. Maybe even a short. Thanks for the great content and please let your roxon rep know us brits really want a non lock version
Just change your government and their stupid laws)
I made mod one of the blades to see If I can make it non locking..but my fear is it will close in a dangerous way.
very interesting, specially they released the CAD file. I just downloaded those, i wonder if i can do keys as one of the tools. i don't need another multi tool, but if this can replace my key organizer. I used to use keysmart, but those have tension issue, always loosen up. then i found Screwpop Tether, very clever using o-ring to tension up without screws. but the o-ring will snap overtime. I have been looking for something that can lock my key, but the options are very limited and usually quite bulky
A small handle/grip that allows the use of one tool individually would be cool, imo. Or maybe two tools.
they are way ahead of you.
Dom, do you know if the 1/4" bit holder is also going to lock at a 90 deg angle? I don't think it is now, judging by the photo, but that'd be rad.
Someone trip the alarm at Leatherman!
what wrench type and size is needed for the screws used to adjust/take apart the tool?
Like you said at 5:25 that was my ONLY reason to not get this. I'll be getting this a little closer to release once they maybe have a few more tools. I'm kinda particular. I actually need a file, saw, and knife. Scissors is just extra.
What tools would you like added?
@DavZell I would like a micro bit driver like on the leatherman tools, and I want a better blade steel. Cork screw would be interesting for those who need it, and the most interesting to me would be a lock pick set. Even having a single handle with the lock pick set would be amazing. It locks so you get dexterity, and it has removable tools, which is ideal for a tension bar and a rake. Nobody on the market currently makes that, I feel it's an unexplored niche, so it could be a hit. The only comparable items come from covert operations, and they're massively overpriced.
Great video! I am planning to use S501U for Saw and Scissors. With the Flex, is it possible to have both files on the outside, each next to a blade? I saw the scissors did not fit perfectly on one side, but wondered if a blade might fit perfectly in its place since I am getting the scissors elsewhere.
So 2 files and 2 blades? Yep
Finally a pocket knife with 4 identical blades
Id like it if they offered a marlin spike as well. My partner enjoys sailing and is a marine biologist. I've tried finding a good tool with one in it but there are so few.
Seems very easy to Mod from a blank
@@maxlvledc possibly. I'm not sure what the process of doing so would be though, I've never custom made tools.
Is it possible to replace the blade and serrated blade with a comb and can opener to make it TSA approved?
They need a removable pry bar!
Roxon: sell a Non-locking blade option and sell 50 million more units. Even Goat Tools saw that and I will now support them
It's a good idea..but also super easy to do with a file
I concur, if they offer a factory non-locking blade it will open their market quite a bit.
F Euro
Goodbye leatherman. Hello Roxon!
Would you recommend modifying the scissor on your own to make it work with the tool?
Seems easy to do, I'd say yes
Have you disassembled it....would it be possible to take the pliers out and have 2 sak replacements? Similar to what you've showed before with the multiforce. Even with the one end empty it would be useful to me.
From what I understand they are already working on something specifically for that
Dang, not available for order in Australia yet
Four long tools has me ready to pull the trigger, BUT -- will the long scalpel tool also fit in the number two spot next to a file or saw? It seems like it would be tapered enough to nest next to the pliers without interfering, but I don't think you mentioned it in the video and it's hard to tell without seeing it up close. Thanks.
I'll try it in the next video!
@@maxlvledc thanks!
I don’t think I saw you operate the 4 long tools. I’ll rewatch. I can one hand all 4 long tools on the GOAT. Even before I added thumbstuds.
I do have my modified long blade in between an outside long tool and the plier head like you did with/the 2 long tools.
I do have to nailnick my modded blade out. I don’t currently do any swapping now that I have things where I want them. I do often take out the long handled craftblade to use it separately.
Roxon does have more tool options and I like how the ordering set up is. GOAT is working on a t-shank and a sak like no plier tool. All decent multitool tools are pretty much going to function the same as each other. So along with personalizing the outside appearance and frame & tool finishes; I still think goat is the preferred option for me.
That's awesome! And no the long tools are not going to easily be one handable in their current form
@@maxlvledc
thanks for responding. I gotta keep sticking up for the GOAT. 🙂
We have any idea what steel they are using?
A spoke wrench would be useful.
Also a two hand opening blade with nicer steel (D2!?!)
Pruning blade.
Fork which can be pulled out from a holder.
A ferro rod! Just kidding!
how accurate is the fitting tolerence on the tools? does it produce any play after installation and during use? Im interested but i would rather wait for a long term review. I can never bear with sloppy tolerences cuz it makes the tools feel floppy
Less than you would expect..but because of the nature of modular tools you need some play or things don't move
Do you feel like this works smoother and would be more one hand usable than the goat tool?
I have a goat and don’t use it cause it’s always jamming and loosening
Well everything works one handed except The long tools. So not really.
the mechanism on the Flex is really well done however.
This is a super compelling offering. I might get this instead of a Free P2/4. Do they list a weight anywhere?
9oz when fully loaded with tools
It seems to be missing a large flathead/prybar. Although perhaps the blank could be modded, depending on the heat treatment. Any idea on the heat treat for the blank?
The blanks are purposefully not Heat treated to allow grinding
@@maxlvledc Thanks, so you’d still need to heat treat it? (I know you want a prybar-driver to be softer, but not totally untreated I assume…)
Do we know what the nylon pouch will look like? same as the other one that comes with some tools? Does it hold the bit kit?
Only a matter of time before someone designs a 3D printed sheath 👍😁
No idea
What is the hole in your 2nd favorite implement the store stripper one? Great video btw! I'm getting one for the wife and I asap!
No idea..maybe for nail deployment?
@@maxlvledc interesting. Thank you!
Do they work in the goat tool
How much does the Flex weigh all decked out?
Will they make a tee shank holder 🤔
Probably
It looks you can only buy it if you are in the US? If so, I hope it ends up being avaible in europe too.
I know it will eventually but likely as a complete tool rather than a a la carte.
I'd call this tool - TSA guy depression.
I read it as Byom. One word.
The dual-sided diamond file is a nice idea, but the tool’s mechanism looks like it would be impossible to clean metal grit out. That’s the only real criticism of this design - I wouldn’t want to use it in a seriously dirty environment.
It's one of the things that GOAT tool has over it..however..until it gets some hard use its impossible to know
You're saying use the lock for the large Implement or it can come out..... but it's still coming out 7:40 while you're demonstrating. Did I miss something?
If only victorinox would make something similar to this
A. Wondering how long before third party options are available
well, its not even on the market yet. so too early to tell.
I didn't purchase the arc specifically because it doesn't have the pull cutter. It is SUPER helpful for cutting zip ties quickly and safely.
With your 4 long implement load out what is the weight? Yes I know its a prototype, just ballpark curious.
Around 9 oz
Am I the only one that's still not satisfied with this? It's not just that I want a specific tool layout, I want specific tool designs too. This is a step in the right direction but in the future when there are more companies doing this, the company that gets my money is still going to come down to who's designing the tools themselves the way I want them. Right now I carry a heavily modified Supertool 300, only because the frame itself is big enough to accommodate the tools I want, and there are enough variants of the 300 that I bought a few of them and mixed and matched the tools to what I want and even then I had to mod in some Victorinox scissors. I feel like this particular tool is trying really hard to give you all the options you want but when I look at the individual tools themselves I'm not overly impressed. I really hope this becomes a trend though, I'd love to see what Leatherman and Victorinox can come up with.
Don't think they will, it will probably hurt their own sales too much
@@maxlvledc It definitely does feel sometimes like Leatherman make tools that are 90% what you want but never quite push them all the way to 100. Maybe it's just me, I'm more picky about MT's than I am about pocket knives, and I'm extremely picky about pocket knives LOL.
If only they shipped outside the US
They will later on
