I love how this tiny little blip of Gohan showing his potential was enough for Goku to bet the earth on.

The creator of this anime show keeps forgetting facets about the story and his characters which end up creating an inconsistency which people argue on about.
The Super Saiyan can be used with the Kaioken when you have mastered the Kaioken so that the body can handle it. SSB was used with it but that doesn't mean he used it because of a "controlled state".

It ain't what he wanted tho. Dude wasn't a fighter. Ever. He's trained willingly (Not being dragged along basically) like 1 time in the OG show and that was for the Tournament before Buu. After that It took till the Tournament of power for him to think about training again.
@@indepth9930 Agreed. Gohan may not have become the hero people wanted or expected him to be, but the result is a much more interesting and deep character than most of the cast. Whereas most Dragon Ball characters are very one-note, Gohan actually has layers to his personality in how he hates fighting, but is willing to step up when needed despite that. Which I guess is also one-dimensional in a way, but it's made a lot more interesting because of his contrast to everybody around him.
I love Gohan, you can't deny his fatal flaw. When he knows he has the upper hand his arrogance is worse than vegeta. Proof of this is when he fought cell and when he fought buu as ultimate Gohan. His arrogance becomes his downfall.

what about goku & vegeta? why didn't goku finishes freeza before he reached 100% power? because goku is curious to see freeza's max power so he risked that chance of winning and then trunks has to finish goku's job. why didn't goku ss3 finishes fat buu? because goku said to vegeta he wanted for young generations (trunks & goten) to be independently. why didn't vegeta finishes cell 2nd form? because he's pride would be wounded so he gave cell to be perfect. the point is: if everytime a hero finishes every bad guy with ease, the story wouldn't be dramatic.

Well Future Trunks is not that arrogant. He killed Frieza, Frieza's father, his men, 17, 18, and Cell the second he had the power to do so. He did not care about seeing any of them get stronger. I mean even when Vegeta tried to help Cell get stronger Trunks attacked him.

I love that they show us the flash back after the we the viewer see Gohan "achieve" the form. It brings satisfaction to understanding the mystery of Goku's confidence before + during the tournament. It's a good pacing of story in other words
Sadly the scene was not in the manga, but it’s excellent, it actually explains why Goku made the decison, he still didn’t tell Gohan about it but it’s a hell of an improvement.
@@indepth9930 I disagree. In the manga version it is thought that Goku sensed Gohan's potential before actually seeing it happen, which makes his choice to send his son against Cell an ever bigger leap of faith, while being absolutely senseless for the rest of the team.
Exposing this scene, implying it did happen, just dampens the depth of Goku's opinions about Gohan.

I think he would actually be proud to tell everyone Gohan overpowered him even before starting the Cell games.

A flashback is always a lazy resource in storytelling. But if i remember correctly this was like a reminding of something already shown in a previous chapter, so its something like "remember what happened this day? There my behave" from goku to the audience. But if this wasnt shown that wouldnt be like a deus ex machina, we have seen gohans anger and growth season to season, and this, even if it was blasting, was a relief not a surprise

Chizu Egwuatu Gohan was originally supposed to be the main person after Goku died during the fight with Raditz. But fans liked him more than Gohan, so Akira kept him in. People wanted Goku, not Gohan, to be the main person. So Gohan was made stronger than Goku, but really cocky, and not knowing the full extent of his power. And THEN Chi Chi made him go to school. If Gohan had kept training, he deffo would've been stronger than Goku.

I love the attention to detail the animators put in. Briefly you can see gohan go from base, to super saiyan 2, then he briefly goes back to base super saiyan then back to normal. Just the small de-transformation detail is nice to see
You can tell it’s Kai, when the scenes are allowed to breathe with only ambient noise like the wind. Original dub just had nonstop music for 25 minutes.

Goku was like always on sidelines most of the time from the start of dbz until Cell saga. The story focused on Gohan's development. Goku joined to the late fights only. Then Buu saga changed everything (finally). I don't like that Gohan get nerfed in Buu saga tough.
Goku used to be so proud of Gohan. You can tell he gave up on training children during the Buu saga when Gotenks was useless and Gohan didn't keep up with training

For anyone that is confused. Gohan (at his base level) was stronger then Goku when they came out of the chamber. Then he unleashed his true power and he was even stronger. Add the 100 times multipler on top of that as a SSJ 2. And None of the Z warriors came close. Matter of fact. It took Goku and Vegeta years to catch up.

It is not that his base is stronger normally. When Gohan gets a rage boost it is an additional multiplier on top of his transformation. That is why Gohan had more than a 2 times multiplier on top of his mastered ssj.

Honestly, Toriyama shouldn't have wasted Gohan's potential, we can only imagine what could have happened if Gohan became the MC after the Cell, no even after then Frieza Saga. It's fine that Goku stayed, because the fans wanted it that way. But having his legacy become the MC would have been just way too 🔥. Gohan could have become the coldest MC.

Goku may be dumb, but once he goes ss2, he does start to become smarter. The super saiyan transformations pass 1, make the user more violent and instinct prone. Peoples insticts can make even the dumbest person, a genius. With ss3, Goku becomes capable of much greater things, not only with his power, but with how he thinks. Like when he fought buu as ss3 for the first time. When buu recovered from his first assault, he instantly knew, buu was not harmed. "He's completely unscathed, not even a scratch on him." Was his direct line. He also knew he could beat him at that time, but at the same time couldn't. He didn't have enough time, he used the fight to test buu. A thing Piccolo does very often. It shows when goten and trunks ask to be ss3, and goku denies them. (However he did show them, which seemed like a mistake because he inadvertently taught them at the same time, though im sure he knew they couldn't handle it when not fused, and im sure he knew they were going to attempt it when fused). I believe why he showed them, was to give Gotenks an even greater power to use against Buu, though it backfired. Goku is a genius who screws up imo lol.

The only downside to KAI is the lack of BRUCE FALCONER music. The dub is much better (apart from gohans voice) and KAI follows the manga more correctly. I still prefer the original FUNI dub but KAI would of been 10/10 to me if they had bruces music.

I love the way they animated this to show all three of his forms in a split second, Gohan broke through the barrier but then instantly reverted form to SSJ1 right before he passes out, showing the audience a real physical difference in the forms!
This first glimpse of SSJ2 is just so perfectly done.
