10 Best Train Games That Let You Run Your Own Railroad Company ... or don't, but let you drive trains. Because running a company and driving a train are the same thing.
There aren’t many train driving sims, the main ones are run8, train simulator, train sim world, and the TrainZ series. Only a handful of train simulators are actually good and don’t require dlc to have fun. Edit: Forgot MSTS)
Interesting list. Too bad the differences between the various offerings wasn't highlighted that much. In some you drive existing routes with various degrees of accuracy. In others you just manage a network with the trains doing their own thing as per the rules you establish. And then there are those where you build your world (real or fantasy) with as much detail as your computer can support. Or download what others have made. Then if you're brave, you could build your own rolling stock or again download what others have made to drive in the world you created or downloaded.
I most definitely reccomend openTTD to anyone who enjoys trains. Just learn about the signals with a quick youtube video and you can start making super rewarding railways serving industries and transporting goods! (also we have planes and buses/trucks so that's a +);
Good list. I would recommend Rail Nation. It s an MMO railway tycoon and quite unique in the genre. It s clearly not as immersive as few ones in the list but there are a lot of locomotives and you really manage your railway company to deliver goods or passengers.
Richard Bosnak indeed, like openTTD..... still they should only have mentioned transport fever, and laid that piece of trash out of the list. And how do I run a company on TrainSimulator?
You wouldn't say that if you saw how far some of them has become. Microsoft TS is only a shadow of its former self after the introduction of Open Rails, which has turned it into a completely new simulator. Combine that with the thousands of beautiful freeware content, and you have a game that never truly dies =)
BVE - Boso View Express from Japan. Translates as Drivers Eye View. Very popular and free to download in the early 2000s. It was also free to download but only cab views were available though the developers did have a fair crack at external views. Anybody else remember Hammerwich to Wood Green? Or their best one by far was Watford Junction to Milton Keynes.
Cool list, Sid Meier's RailRoads! crashes when run on Win10. There are patches that address this but even they don't work when the map gets to complex.
Some of these are Some. But they offer different experiences. S lot of the time I find myself preferring TS2017 or Train Sin World over Transport Fever.
One you missed (probably because you haven't heard of it) is "simutrans" It is sumular to transport tycoon and is free to play on both their website and steam.
It bothers me when people call Railworks "Train Simulator" because no matter what branding Dovetail has added to the game, it's Railworks. And it sucks. I have Trainz 2006 North American Demo, Trainz 2010 Engineers Edition, and T:ANE which all have reasonable control sensitivity and setup, reasonable camera controls, and reasonable surveyor-scenario setups. If Railworks could use the notch based throttle like the rest of the world, and fix bugs with their HUD it would be incredible. Sometimes speed restrictions don't show up on the HUD which is annoying. I also dislike that it is a point based game. Railroads aren't point based, goal 1 is survive and goal 2 is don't anger the customers.
OpenTTD is also completely free. Just search for "OpenTTD". There are a TON of mods for it which are very nice. I find myself getting so wrapped up in the game, time flies by TOO fast.
I cant instal railroad tycoon3 on my computer its saing no disc inserted but i cant understand what exacly i have to do if somebody knows what to do please can explain please !!!
Man is there no railroad tycoon 3 like game out there that doesn't have graphics from the 1990s and has a free mode where you compete against other companies instead of having a timeframe to do an objective?
As I recall you also can't zoom out very far, making the game feel very claustrophobic. It looks nice, but the gameplay is like RRT2 or RRT3 on super easy mode.
I played more than 200h Rairoad Tycoon 3 and I would like to say that it is much more funnier and the most complete managing game than Train Fever (way too boring and repetitive) and Sid Meyer's Railroad (difficult to master and gives less satysfaction).
Mini Metro is a great Metro Game. It’s Challenging, and You DO Run the Train “Company.” Place Trains, Connect Stations from Line to Line, and more. I’m just telling. Not Advertising.
I need the name of a game that i played before 2013/2010 ish. It was a 3D rail train traffic control game on PC which we didn't build in rail nor the train. Big circle of that. It just controlling the lamp signal in many spot, while train after train will come and we need to make it go through the route to the end point. If we don't signal the train to go it will keep waiting at the start point. As I remember there's first level area which looks like semi desert and rocky mountain, and second level area which include bullet train(?) In a green area. As i'm still and elementary at that time i couldnt pass the second area and wouldn't know if there is another level. I could say it would be categorized as puzzle game rather than build-world game. And the game didn't include first pov or inside view of the trains. Just controlling the lamp signal. I need to know this game before i die i guess..
Check out our review of The Batman (2022) here - th-cam.com/video/WPCN0WqZ5Uo/w-d-xo.html
The fact that half of these are more than a decade old is a strong indication that there aren't enough modern train sims available.
Yea right now the only major train sims are Trainz and train sim world
There aren't enough quality ones that don't smash you with DLC for sure.
11/10 not only did you have Railroad Tycoon 3 in this video, you also called Railroad Tycoon a Classic.

not really
like youre right
OriginalPiMan No, It’s not.
openbve
Definitely Railroad Tycoon 3. I wish they would make an updated version that would run on newer machines..
Railroad tycoon 3, working on all Microsoft platforms inc windows 10 :)
www.gog.com/game/railroad_tycoon_3
But then... is the 2gb ram issue fixed?
Yes, this was solved a few years ago. If you have the original game disc, you can find the 'blurry texture fix' on hawkdawg.com/rrt/rrt3/rrt3.htm
I have RT3 running fine on Windows 10 and DOSBOX. give it a try.
RT3 is so ugly and dated, while RT2 with its gorgeous 2D graphics aged really well.
railway empire is a newer train sim game thats pretty decent
Try railway corporation if your into business aspect more
Is it on ps4
@@whatusernameisnottaken3885 yes
@@KMACKTIME ok i will check it out
@@whatusernameisnottaken3885 The ps4 version feels really good, even compared to pc. That game's been taking up all my time lately
All we had to do was follow the damn train, CJ!
good list i would recommend
railroads online

Half of these are train simulators not tycoon/management games. You may build your own line in a simulator, but it won't be as friendly as a tycoon :(
Because that is what the title says 😑
Welcome to the tycoon squad :)
You have to play factorio...once understood it is just awesome for making crazy train systems
11: Factoriooooooooo
Well, it's not a 'train simulator' specifically, but it has logistics in spades.
TheFrantic5 probably better routing than most train tycoon games
The factory must grow!
Factorio definitely has these aspects. I love the train system in that game
@@marn200 the factory must grow!

Microsoft train simulator, 18 wheels of steel: american long haul and Roller COaster Tycoon 3 are my childhood
Where is Transport Fever?
BlueKingNL transport fever is it only trains.
Richard Bosnak indeed, like openTTD..... still they should only have mentioned transport fever, and laid that piece of trash out of the list. And how do I run a company on TrainSimulator?
YO hello Richard :) - Agree Transport Fever not on the list????
Awesome. Just finished watching
its not transport fever its train fever
So many entries missing.
• Mashinky
• Railway Empire
• Transport Fever
• Rise of Industry
• A-Train..
Thanks SOOO much for showing me train games cuz i LOVE trains, I do have train simulator but nothing else. Anyway.. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Deck Eleven Railroads 2. Just perfect 👌
since some people mentioned transport fever. what about industry giant 2? the transport managament (especially when using trains) is awesome there.
DERAIL VALLEY is getting really good and worth a look. also "Deck Eleven's Railroads 2" on Android.
I decade finding this.
its thankful for Showing me.
Transport Fever is the newer version of Train Feber
TrainNutter fever*
what is feber is that the fat beiber
Transport Fever 2 is very well done.
Is it just me or is it slightly depressing that the majority of these games are over 10 years old...
Give Train Fever or its successor Transport Fever a try. You will not be dissapointed
Bryan Packer go with transport fever
You wouldn't say that if you saw how far some of them has become. Cities Skylines actually doubles as a very epic train network simulator for me, but yeah you have to build the city that needs it as well.
It's sad though that Transport Fever still has no timetable support.
1:28 I see you know quality
Railway Empire is also a pretty good game, but also confusing though.
Relatively unstable at times and completely arcade, despite the DEV's potential for it to do more.
My favorite was Trainz:a new era
I suggest Rail Nation as the best train game at the present time.
For people that didn't listen:
1 - MaSzyna
2 - Train Driver 2
3 - Open Rails
BVE - Boso View Express from Japan. Translates as Drivers Eye View. Very popular and free to download in the early 2000s. It was also free to download but only cab views were available though the developers did have a fair crack at external views. Anybody else remember Hammerwich to Wood Green? You can get a version of BVE for iOS now called 'HmmmSim'.
Cool list, Sid Meier's RailRoads! crashes when run on Win10. There are patches that address this but even they don't work when the map gets to complex.
some of these are only train sims not train business games...
yeah its very stupid...
There's also train station
Some of these are Some. But they offer different experiences. S lot of the time I find myself preferring TS2017 or Train Sin World over Transport Fever.
One you missed (probably because you haven't heard of it) is "simutrans" It is sumular to transport tycoon and is free to play on both their website and steam.
actually, there might be a full video of content here in the comments XD
Where did he get the locomotion video or did he make it himself? I've been trying to get the Big Boy mod but i've been having problems finding it.
These all look really great, trying to figure out which one I should get.

Railroads aren't point based, goal 1 is survive and goal 2 is don't anger the customers.
If I get my gamer's computer, I'm getting Trainz purely for the Pennsylvania Railroad T1 goodness!
"Futuristic" 2020, Nothing Feels Futuristic Now.
I remember the old classic train sim when I was a kid and I loved to watch two trains crash into each other
We need Railroad Tycoon 2, but like a new one. Man, I miss that game.
We need more Thomas games!
"MaSzyna EU07" it's very advanced polish railroad simulator. But you must know polish rail rules and how to operate polish locomotives.
Locomotion is like Transport Tycoon
2020 right now is past
OpenTTD is also completely free. Just search for "OpenTTD". There are a TON of mods for it which are very nice. I find myself getting so wrapped up in the game, time flies by TOO fast.
completely true, love this game and the things you can do, it's endless.
1:51 actually, I was a train Sim world has that down pretty well
Adding *Railway Empire* to the list for this year ;) Awesome game!
Railway empire released this year is pretty good too. (Jan 2018)
5:20 that train on the right originates from my birth coutry hungary
Mini Metro is just great why is that not on the list
Is there no game that u can be in fps and buy trains and wagons upgrades ect to do it simulator way in making a company?
For all you train enthusiasts its £2500+ for all DLC on Train Simulator
Dovetail Games in a nutshell. 1 edit = 20 EUR
They need be downloaded?
Train Fever is just transport fever 2 but older, dont but it.
They should really make a railroad tycoon 4
I cant instal railroad tycoon3 on my computer its saing no disc inserted but i cant understand what exacly i have to do if somebody knows what to do please can explain please !!!
The Chadman on 5:06 is a nice detail lol
What game is it? 0:03
1:25 press w simulator? You cant turn left or right or smth else
Railway Empire 2018
never trust an edited comment
paradox
Ok xD
lol
this is some paradox crap
Like you ?
hoping to see train city in this
it was a very enjoyable game
Great channel. Diesel dave's
5:20 Máv Taurus on the rails (Magyar Állam Vasutak shortly)
I hope the new deck eleven railroad 2 make it in new list
Nice video ! I submitted 2 videos to your website !! Enjoy
Which game title is used on the intro. Looks cool.
I really like Railway Empire :)
MSTS is the best train related game of all time
OTTD, RRT3 and now Railway Empire. :D
Video image taken from an High Speed Italian train documentary of National Geographic (Italo Train)
But nobody cares
Aww. I hoped A train would make it on here. That game was my childhood.
Man is there no railroad tycoon 3 like game out there that doesn't have graphics from the 1990s and has a free mode where you compete against other companies instead of having a timeframe to do an objective?
By far, TTD is the best, but also RAILROAD EMPIRE is a great game
when i seen this,i knew openttd will be in the list xD
My favourite is missing railroad pioneer
yeah Railroad tycoon 3 still the best replayable train game
1:56 i thought those trains on the left were going down a vertical wall.
I love how train sim world isint here but train sim is
This video was made in 2017 when TSW was only in beta and only had one or two routes
this video was helpful
Only problem with railroads is that it is prone to crashing, so save your game regularly
Raise Da Hell the campaign's add a lot of interest, but the mechanics themselves are fairly dull. Transport fever fixes the lack of mission though
Mini Metro is a great Metro Game. It’s Challenging, and You DO Run the Train “Company.” Place Trains, Connect Stations from Line to Line, and more. I’m just telling. Not Advertising.
Tbh I literally HATE Mini Metro because it is just CLASSED as a tycoon but it is clearly just a puzzle game
Openttd and transport frver 2 are my favourites
You forgot Railway Empire, the best in my opinion
Any game in which the player can view the inside of the train with passengers and waiters?
MSTS and Train Simulator and Train Sim World all allow this.
Sid meiers Railroads baby
I have over 500 hours on trainz a new era
Man i just love trains :)
im looking for an old train game i played as a kid but it wasn't in there
There is a forgotten game called TRAINS AND TRUCKS TYCOON
You forgot the A-Train series unfortunately.
2:50 You say that like it's some sort of mods that you can "download"!?!? They are DLCs wich are freaking expensive hahahaha
Are any of these games available on android for free?
you forgot TransportFever, its such better than all the games on your list ;)
What's the difference between Transport Tycoon Deluxe and Open TTD?
OpenTTD is open source, free, and vastly more flexible/customizable. It has its roots in TTD.
I need the name of a game that i played before 2013/2010 ish. It was a 3D rail train traffic control game on PC which we didn't build in rail nor the train. Big circle of that.

And the game didn't include first pov or inside view of the trains. Just controlling the lamp signal.
I need to know this game before i die i guess..
....but i own most of these titles....
*MOAR TRAINZ*
superROTV kramm
So you put some simulator in here too, so I’m just wondering under that logic, where is Run8?
Don't forget you can also vote in the comments also I vote train fever because I love the transport fever Games 1 and 2
