    You’re so right Brian. Horning someone in the US means Eff you! In Brazil a horn means “here i am”. A kinder, lighthearted sound will prevent nasty road rage. Smart!!

    It doesn't make any difference whether you're driving an EV or not. (See 9:19 of your video.) Pedestrians have lost the habit of looking both ways before they cross the street or making eye-contact with drivers. (Exception: Dads walking young kids out of grocery stores. Most dads have an iron grip on their kids' wrists.) I assume in whatever car I’m driving (EV or ICE) that pedestrians in parking lots are going to walk in front of me without looking. I’m usually right. On those rare occasions when a pedestrian makes eye contact I stop, roll down my window and say, "Thank you for making eye contact."

      I agree! People are too busy with their phones or music.

    • @LightsOnMultiMediaMindArts
      @LightsOnMultiMediaMindArts 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Resist4 Oddly enough I haven't noticed that.I’m thinking of a grocery store that I pass frequently. People of all ages blindly walk out of the store looking straight ahead, no evidence of earphones or smartphones, plodding along with no regard for the outside world. I live in Oregon, but in California the law says that when a pedestrian steps into the street all cars stop for them. That's not the law in Oregon, but I think so many people here have come from California that their unconscious expectation is that the law is universal. I don't mind stopping, but I do mind the thoughtless, recklessness behind blindly stumbling through public spaces I see people. All I want is for them to be aware of their environment. Make eye contact. Nod. That way we can all be safer.

    • @Resist4
      @Resist4 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LightsOnMultiMediaMindArtswhile pedestrians ultimately have the right of way in California, it doesn't mean they can just jump out into traffic and not get cited or worse get injured. But in any State cars should stop for pedestrians, if they're in your path of travel. This just makes sense.

    We all were putting air horns with different programs, on our cars in high school!

    • @bburton333
      @bburton333 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That brings back memories as when I was just out of high school, I added twin electric air horns to a Honda Civic. The stock single-tone "beep" horn was left connected. Since it took a fraction of a second for the air horn pump to spin up, tapping the horn button lightly would just get a "beep" sound but holding the button down a little longer spun up the air horns which were really loud. In addition, the high beams were wired to the horn circuit so they came on when the horn button was pressed. Of course, this was done in a way so when the high beams were used, it didn't sound the horn continuously.

    Most ICE vehicles are just as quiet when idling and moving at slow speeds. This noise maker mandate is another unnecessary law and will just increase the price of cars. But if we are given the ability to pick several sounds, then it could be kind of fun.
    Hope you didn’t violate any copyright laws with those sounds.

    • @googadisbeotches9360
      @googadisbeotches9360 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      With ice cars all they have to do is cut off the exhaust at the manifold and if it's too loud pipe it into the cabin so it can heat the interior on cold nights or whatever since they're greener than EVs as they say it's a win win win for everybody!

  • @SCWgreg
    @SCWgreg 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think one of the sound options for when you’re motoring through a parking lot should just be a looped/continuous sound of the Jetson’s mobile. Another one, would be Kit’s scanning sound (from Knight Rider). How about Flipper? Or something more ominous like the Cylons from Battle Star Galactica. Or Darth Vader breathing. The possibilities are endless!

    A bluetooth/wireless version wouldn't be hard to make and would simplify the installation / wiring, could even control it with a phone app! Having the car emit noises is such a stupid regulation. One of the greatest benefits of electric vehicles for the public is the lack of noise pollution. Most modern engines these days don’t have a lot of noise anyway and if someone has headphones on they’re not going to hear any type of car coming. People just need to learn and adapt to being more aware of their surroundings when stepping out into the middle of a road.

  • @bburton333
    @bburton333 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is cool! The next level modification would be to tap into the horn button by using a relay in series with the stock horn that would allow enabling and disabling the stock horn to alternate with the pedestrian sounds. By using an Arduino or Pi Zero as a controller, it should be possible to program it to output different sounds depending on the length and frequency the horn button is pressed. For instance, a long press could sound the stock horn whereas a short press in some combination could invoke different sounds of the pedestrian horn. For safety purposes, the stock horn should be the default unless the pedestrian horn is specifically turned on. However, in some localities, it could be illegal to make such modifications to your car. Even if it's not illegal, you better know what you're doing so as to not damage the car.

    Not absolutely sure that it's the official one. it was supposed to be recorded from a phone, or maybe the sound was not recorded in a good way, but damned the forward one just don't match the backward one, at least on the record.

      If someone sold a kit with the board pre-programmed with copyrighted sounds, they would need to pay for a license to distribute them or find alternatives that aren't copyrighted. For individual use, one would need to look at the copyright for each sound and evaluate whether it can be used for this purpose or not.

    Who wants to see the sound modification that sounds like a V12 engine going over 100 mph when driving under 19 mph?
