1 of Buckner’s LR 11000’s helped Franken Crane lift the 1st OLM into place “back in the day”. Also installed the vertical tank farm too. I’m betting it’s going to work with Space X’s 11000 , which would probably need to be reconfigured, and do Tandem Lifts for the remainder of Tower 2’s components. Always impressed with the way Liebherr designed and engineered their cranes to be built so quickly. Always will be my fav.
Das - the last part of the crane that was installed is called the SA-Frame or live mast. It will connect to either the main boom or the derrick. On the SpaceX crane, it holds the whole boom, and all those parts of line are what is used to boom up/down. The next step on the new crane will be to install the derrick, then the main boom.
So, just as a thought. Maybe Spacex can use tower 2 coms as redunancy and vice versa as I dont think we will have 2 catches simultaneously. Thoughts???
I think they could do that...but here very soon they will need to catch the Starship also...but who knows...they might be able to drain the remaining fuel and whisk the booster away in under 6 hours or so and catch the Starship on the same tower later on as well.
You should make a time lapse video of the entire crane assembly. What was in this video was really interesting! I guess being a rocket nerd goes along with being a machine nerd in general. 😊
The top antenna was bent during launch due to shock waves. It is highly probable that it was the cause of catch abort. Next time this antenna will be quite different and stronger.
Glad to see stage zero in good shape, I remember the damage after the first flight and since then I'm just happy that the ground equipment survived the launch. My hope for the 7th test is a first orbital trajectory, first payload deploy and a boil off prooftesting before a controled re-entry. I believe that they can do it and I don't mind waiting to see them get it right. If they can get it right they can sell starship launches.
@@NASASpaceflight Never had an XWing as a kid. Usually my younger brother, best friend, and I would create epic Star Wars themed land and space battles with our massive amounts of LEGOs. The XWings we built would be pretty epic when they crashed and separated into hundreds of pieces though! 🤣
The scheduling of the cranes can be complex at times. It could have been scheduled to go to a different project and has to be there by a certain time. The other thing to consider is the cost. That 8800 probably cost 1/2 a million a month on rent so the faster they can let it go the cheaper the bill. Also I have heard that the spacex 11000 is having an issue hence why Buckner is being brought in to hang the chopsticks. To rent a Buckner 11000 is roughly 300k a month if I remember correctly.
It depends on for example what SpaceX is choosing to do for flight 7, if they just want to fly they wouldn't need to prepare much but if they want to deploy a payload into orbit they might need more time. Time will tell what they choose to do and how long that will take.
9:20 I've also gotta wonder, they keep renting all these massive cranes, what about their own that they already own outright, what is that sucker doing all this time?
Ideally with enough towers there's fallbacks if one needs repairs. But yes they will need to generally figure out the "rapidly" part of the "rapidly reusable"
With any luck the different design they have for Pad B will solve the turnaround problems. It is remarkably difficult to solve though, so might take a while before we see super low turnaround times
Yeah, I think I would have launched ship 26 into orbit as a test bed for learning how to cut, weld and generally reconfigure something for future use. Waste not, want not.

Possible the blast did damage to the base connection(s) of, off, ove the mast as you said.
Why of off, and not just off-?
They have to get a crane in because they dont have one tall enough to remove and repair the mast atop the tower.

The crane assembly shots were amazing! I had no idea how quickly it could be assembled... Wow!
Thanks, Das. I only ever rented a small crane, and it was really easy. Pay them, and they show up, lift your stuff, and leave.
Who else only watches these videos with Das’s commentary enabled?

How do I swich it on? I'm on the youtube app?

a video of the crane being assembled would be really cool actually
My thoughts exactly! NFS, please do one for all the crane nerds watching, it was so fascinating.
Thank you NSF team and Mary
Favorite part of the coming of the two towers, booster and starship catch together.
Das and NSF, y'all rock! Thanks for the update. Peace 🤘
"Rest in pieces" seems fitting for Ship 26... they could have make a few bucks selling the pieces as souvenirs.
Or donate it to a museum for display.
I wonder if we might see S26's engines on another ship/booster at some point in the future

I suspect the mask transmitters are used for accurately locating the tower, so it’s not just a case of locating them elsewhere.

Starbase Radio! I love the concept of the battle-damaged X-Wing. You got it exactly right. I am beginning to love the OLM in its current state.
I saw that crane headed in as I was on my way out of Starbase passing through Corpus Christi!
6 months from Augusta, this gives me the feels of The Masters
Love the narrated ... I too would love a vid of just the crane assembly !
Thanks again for the info and updates. You are the Best!
Love the commentary Das keep it up!
I cannot see anything else in the BQD at 1:17 than a cursed Mickey Mouse 😂
They should have used ship 26 as full HLS mock up since it’s already what HLS would have looked like… flapless and shieldless

When is Flight 7❓
Will it happen before year end❓

Probably. They would need to static fire Ship 33, which hasn’t happened.
Causway between building are typically more complex! Hense more time!
Please release the Ship 26 tribute video
Yea das 😊
Catching both the booster and Starship has to mean one mecazila would necessarily be empty.(?) You suggest 2 ship at the same time. Just wondering….
I’d watch a giant crane being built!
Nice..

Shucks. - Das
So, I'm not sure i recall hearing where the name "DAS" came from/originated. Maybe a cool backstory... Especially if your mom even calls you that.
8:48 why do the need a big crane there? Shouldn’t their own crane be more then capable enough to lift the new chopsticks?
Evidently not.
Someone else in here claims there’s a reliability problem with SpaceX’s LR11000.
They should turn Ship 26 into a gift shop or something.
How did you come to be called "Doss"?🤔

How do they expect to do a "rapid turnaround" if the launch mount takes such abuse every time it's used? Thousands of flights per day??

It’s intended to be caught by the tower.
