Why pivots instead of the usual hinges? Just style, or a better way to support such large doors? Seems a shame to stain your nice (CVG fir?) doors black. No stain and some good spar varnish would look beautiful. Seems like everyone wants to paint over good wood these days.
The pivots because of both aesthetics and yes they support large doors much better. As far as the stain goes, the client gets what the client wants. We've done plenty of clear finishes (usually spar/tongue oil mix) but the fir alway goes so orangie and does not appeal to many. I think the dark stain will look great, the door and jamb will then get an oil top coat. thanks for checking out the video
