Setting up my table saw. in this cranker of a video i assemble the new saw. I use cool tools like wrenches and other interesting power tools not nearly as bespoke as thing ultra bespoke things i will likely create with my nearly bespoke saw..

Making space for the new Felder K 540 S

We bought a new sliding table saw so the old set up had to be dismantled and moved out of the way. First I had to move all the old shelves and build a new saw station to house my kapex and add storage then I could dismantle the old setup and move the old table saws

A quick easy way to measure for long pieces of wood when butting into angles
มุมมอง 4202 ปีที่แล้ว
I have to measure from a square end to an out side angle. It’s critical that it’s perfect and the long point is what matters so I use a piece of wood the same height as the final piece, cut the angle on it and double check the saw is set perfectly. I then measure back and square down at an easy number and transfer the mark into the face of where I’m measuring then but the tape into the square e...

Applying the planks to a door core that will yield a 12 foot tall pivot door. I only have so many clamps so I can only do half of the one side.
Work bench extension
มุมมอง 9212 ปีที่แล้ว
I made a extension to my work bench to enable sanding and other exciting actions on longer pieces. It was the style at the time. I once had a different extension but it wasn’t wide enough so I fashioned a new one that.. you guessed it.. is wider. It also features various dog holes as well as a screw to firmly hang an air compressor nozzle

If you drop something down a dog hole, how do you retrieve it? I love your dust collection system. I would like to do the same. But need to have an easy way to retrieve dropped items. Thanks for the T-track info. You have helped me to think through my system.
Quit wasting your time and money on shitty but expensive new machines. Either look for quality used big ass machines, or there’s a company called Martin.
@@jamesnowicki1107 ha. Yeah. You’re right. At the time I didn’t want to remortgage my house for a jointer so a compromise was made
Man, I thought I was alone with Hammer issues. Alignment goes out almost immediately. Tables are warped, and the “fix” is to use the jack screws to torque the table flat when you lock it down. But the adjustment point on the bottom of the table is cast, and the steel screw digs in and leaves a dent that gets worse over time. Ugh.
Do you use this saw For joinery/dadoes etc?
Can you tell me more about the noise and what you did to fix it? I have a similar machine, it just started making a loud noise.
Thank you for this video! I have exactly the same machine, and as you know, there is very little on-line information about it. Question: Have you had an trouble with wood being pulled to the Left or Right as it goes through the planer? I've found that adjusting the infeed rollers is very tedious, and the corrections don't seem to last... Thanks!
It pulls because of the curve of the cutters head. A straight blade machine wouldn’t do it.
Get real. You expect too much. This is an average machine! Spend more money.
You’re obviously an idiot. Thanks for watching.
I'm an IDOIT you replied. Obviously you don't know that only IDIOTS call others IDIOTS!
Hey whats the best way to get in contact with you?
Hot fire old sport!
I hope you got a refund.
Wow, just discovered your channel - so good! If you could ever do a pivot door series from start to finish for us newbs that would be amazing.
Thanks! Im going to try
Hey, great video, not alot of info on SCM machines. Still happy with it? Im thinking of this, the FS41ES or the Felder AD741. All machines are overkill for me, but I dont want a 500kg lump of steel thats crooked. The ES and Felder are alot more expensive here in Norway.
I am still happy with it. But I need a bigger jointer for sure. I think the felders are just as good as long as You keep clear of anything hammer. What a load of crap.
Hi, what suspenders do you use?
Great Video
What would did you use for the stiles
I was seriously thinking about a A3-41 for a hobby shop. Nope.
Good to know Snickers pants might work for me. Like yourself I have a 29” waist, and more often than not ordering other brands 30’s leads to disappointment and returns as they’re way too big in the waist. Our options as thin people are quite limited! Any other finds you’ve made?
Where did you buy this in Canada?
The was an scm show room near Vancouver. I don’t think its there anymore though
Crappy could not be bothered careless courier employees .
This is great man. Good job. I just bought a cart for use in my shop and as an outfeed helper as well. I’ll be doing something very similar. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks. I’ve had the thing for a bit now and I will say I need to spend the money and by a proper one. It’s such a handy tool in the shop but the cheap Canadian tire table is just too sloppy. Still incredibly handy though.
Please use a microphone; it would help your videos so much.
Be sure to cross-sight each end of the door before planking so it cures with no twist in it.. And then buy a glue hopper with a roller on it; it will cut your laminating time in half. You can get slower titebond glues; talk to a Franklin rep. great videos!
Hey Gary. You bet! I have spots on the floor where I put the saw horses knowing they will be flat as well as the strong backs I use. Just to be sure I check before the glue up and make sure everything’s still good and then double check after. I’ll check out the roller. Thanks
I just checked my SCM Nova FS410. The worst diagonal dish I could find was 0.08mm, or 3.14 thousands of an inch, on the infeed table, and 0.05 on the outfeed. The straight line flatness, i.e. with the straight edge parallel to the fence, was remarkable. Better than 0.03mm or 1.18 thousands of an inch across the width of the infeed and outfeed tables. This is so precise that the straight edge was pinching a human hair in the middle. SCM done good!
When you where experiencing the bearing like noise in the planner could you tell me what you did to reduce the noise. i am experiencing a louder bearing like noise when i run the planer head. the machine has not done a lot of work so i don't think its the bearings.
Where the feeding rollers go in to the sides shoot a little lube in there and see if it makes a difference. That’s what Mine was and it fixed it completely. It was getting real loud.
Mrp
the reason the cables are all red is because they're all active! the white is neutral. why would you need different colours? Does he use different colours when he wires up a house? Normally control cables are coloured based on voltages and sensors etc. Looking at the schematic they're all numbered anyway so you would literally need zero experience to wire this thing up
I thought he was going to say 15! 15! 15 millimetres!
Jesus your waist it’s child size
Thanks for review. So does this machine comes adjust to straight cut? Or does it also makes spring joint? Is there a way to adjust it one or another way easily? Really considering to buy one. Thanks for reply.
Mine came set up for a straight cut I believe. It’s hard to tell Some times as I mostly make 10’ tall and up doors and generally (technique willing) I get straight boards after jointing. I don’t think any combo machines adjust easily From a straight to a spring joint. At least not to my knowledge
What is your arm made of? Looks like 2 sheets of plywood 345 for square, sandwiched over a ¾x4 then sistered together for length of 10' total?
I did the same by fixing it with a self tapping screw. But WOULD NOT. Recommend as this causes fatigue over time . I had a crack in the casing and cost over £150 for the part from festool.
While I personally don't like combination machines it's pretty obvious that the engineering with SCMI is better than Felder. They do a far better fence assembly for a start and without a rigid fence assembly you are screwed. They definitely have way better tolerances on their castings too. Felder is diabolically bad on that score.
That's some serious bulls#$t right there. You can't get a 1 thou feeler under my Wadkin tables anywhere. Felder is an unbelievably shonky machinery maker. The dealers are just as bad. I would never ever recommend Felder to anyone let alone their budget fudget Hammer brand. You'll get hammered all right. From behind, dry. Can't believe a door maker uses such a lightweight girly machine. Dude, you need to get a serious machine. The new one will crap out soon enough, you can count on it. Felder doesn't season their castings. They often start to wind after a few year's. By then your warranty won't be worth jack. Lipstick doesn't make a pig in to a total babe and fancy paint job's don't make a Felder a quality machine unless you enjoy getting shafted.
I recently took delivery of a Felder FB710 bandsaw, which was an absolute horror show of quality control issues. Welds so bad that the Felder sales guy quipped that his 6 year old child could do better, spatter all over the place, doors out of alignment, bent bedding plate (the part that holds the table and tilt mechanism), the main column of the saw was welded to the base/foot with so little care that it was out of alignment by 5mm across a width of 200mm. These were all factory issues, not transport damage. Packaging wise, the saw was pristine when it arrived. I have lots of photos if anyone is interested. The only thing I will say is that Steve at Felder UK was amazing with his support, agreeing to give me a refund the next day, which was many days before they had collected the saw. My regional rep Jamie is utterly useless though. Doesn’t respond to enquiries, knows nothing about the machines and generally doesn’t seem fussed.
So now Felder dealers expect users to do their own assembly ! Mind you, that's probably a good thing because most machinery dealers couldn't change a light bulb without calling in the manufacturer. Back in the day my dealer did his own deliveries to avoid damage but nothing on the machine was dialed in. NOTHING. Felder Head office never listens to complaints or returns email's. Their warranties aren't worth Jack. Felder is overpriced, underengineered and vastly overrated.
If you want to sale that and upgrade to the three phase I’d be interested 😬😬😬
Why would you accept a unit that arrived in poor condition???
How the fck is he supposed to test it in the crate? Hold the delivery bubba there at gun point?
You have a delivery driver that really Needs to go and you have about three seconds to look at it wrapped in all the shipping protection material and half disassembled. If your some sort of magical detective that figure out that a jointers out by 14 thou coverd up than I commend you. You must be something else to work with.

Also, the front screws are course thread and the rear are fine thread. The outward adjustment screws are also not far enough outward. This is a major design flaw having to adjust these outward screws from the inward side to make the outward side move is dumb. I am an engineer that has to solve these types of design flaws all the time and this machine is riddled with problems. I would say if you want to take a chance buying the machine, go for it. If you want to be certain of not having a problem, buy another brand. If I was do it over again, I would not buy this machine.
I agree mine is also out on the infeed side at .006" bow in the middle from side to side. The length is out .003" on infeed and outfeed tables along the length, which is acceptable. I have probably put up to 40 hrs on this machine trying to get is set up and I'm still not happy. Felder is terrible and not responsive. I think they know this machine also has a major design flaw at the adjustment points. If you look at the front and back adjustment screws they are not square but more of a Parallelogram
Felder doesn't make good tables or castings period. They don't season their castings properly. The old makers left them out in the weather for at least two or three year's before machining them. You can't get a feeler gauge under my Wadkin table's and that's with a two meter hardened and ground Moore and Wright heavy engineers straight edge, not some piss ant Lee Valley toy straight edge. There is simply no way you can get truly accurate jointing or planing unless your beds are spot bollock flat and coplanar all the way. Trust me, I've used a lot of jointers over the years. Never ever pay for a machine until you've shit tested it with a straight edge. That includes the thicknesser bed too. Same with their panel saws. I guarantee you you won't get co planar out of their sliding tables at full extension. They sag. Badly.
Thank for the video, think I’m going to get the Felder AD941 though.
How the hell did you end up with a Felder with the disappointment you had with your Hammer?!..
In short, Covid. There was an availability issue. It was a year minimum for an scm and Canadian dealer had one felder in stock. I wanted a simple Saw thinking there was less that could go wrong but that also made it harder to find at the time. I think fielders good equipment but out of principle I for sure intended never to purchase anything from them but oh well.. I’m happy with it.
I would add my biggest problem with the hammer purchase was the dealer I bought It from. That guy was a joke. I got the saw from a different dealer.
Can you please put a link to the clamps you used in the t track and/or tell me the make/model?
Nice machine , i have fs52ex , 4 knifes .....7kw ...its a monster
That is a monster door! - Raja
Thanks for the video! I thought I was the only one with issues. Now I don’t feel so bad about getting scammed. I had the same problems, plus a broken motor. They sent a replacement but I had to install it myself, otherwise they’d charge me for a technician to do it. I live 2 hours from their office and I’d have to pay for the travel time too. This was about 7 years ago. Thank god for track saws to straight edges.
What kind of countertop material did you use? Kind of looks like a formica but already made up?
It’s called valcromat. I’m unsure on the spelling. It’s just fancy mdf

I have A3-41 for about 4 years and mine is perfect and I have never had a single problem with it
Thanks for rubbing that in my face Dave. Sweet..
Very funny! Which part of Canada are you from?
Not sure how I missed this gem!
Nice review. In the process of deciding if it's worth moving (almost 300 miles) the older 16 in SCMI jointer and SCMI 20 inch planer (both 3 phase) or sell and switch to this. Realistically we only used the full 20 inch width of the planer to put through multiple pieces at the same time. Question though....Do the jointer infeed and outfeed tables lay perfectly flat or do you see issues with clipping or or not getting the edges straight, needing adjusting etc. due to the pivot feature? Secondly it looks like the fence moves easily. Our old 16 in jointer is a bear to move, I'm guessing they improved that.
