I love this song so much. Makes me think of a friend that passed away at the age of 18 yrs old. He sang this song to me for my birthday. I love you Larry. R.I.P.
I remember seeing the promos for this movie in 77. Never saw the movie then, but fell in love with Didi Conn's cuteness. I was 20 years old then. Flash forward to 2015. GET TV ran the movie and saw it for the first time, and now at 58 I'm still in love with Didi's off the scale cuteness. Yeah, movie was kinda sappy, but Didi portrayed her character well. I'm a rock/metal guy, but have to admit I like this song.
Oh, yes, I loved those promos on TV too! Didi Conn used to be on Match Game a lot. Huh, the ads spoiled the bit where she said, "I can't marry you." huh, considering that you'd think she meant the song for the love interest guy. I have to see the film again. I saw it in theaters back then.
I went to see it at a drive-in. I would have been 17, and it was after midnight. I tried to watch it through, but dozed off. Maybe I saw half of it? Wasn't there a T-Bird driving on the freeway?
MOR music is pretty much gone from the radio nowadays. The only time I listen to the radio nowadays (unless I am in someone else's car) is when I listen to the NPR classical station for classical music or All Things Considered. TH-cam Music gets a LOT of use in my home and I also have an extensive music collection, most of which I copied over to my computers. I have literally outlived my generation (I am almost 80) and because of this radio stations no longer cater to my interests. My father is still alive at 104 and he feels the same way.
I remember being a little kid watching this movie and crying at this song and had no idea why. I only watched it because Didi a.k.a. Frenchy was in it.
I love this. Never seen it before. Her reaction when the strings start -- I know that feeling. I've sung with bands and orchestras and when you feel that energy coming from the instruments it's a HUGE RUSH. Didi portrays that feeling so beautifully here. This is also the first time I've heard Kasey Cisyk's version of "You Light Up My Life," and it's leaps and bounds better than Debby Boone's version. This version has raw emotion and so much more feeling. Debby's version sounds bland in comparison. It was, essentially, a copy of Kasey's version (I just learned the whole story behind that), so I'll let Boone slide in that she didn't have much control over what she could do with the song. But hearing other things she's done, she's not nearly as expressive a singer. I wish Kasey had a chance to build a career with her voice. It was truly lovely.
D Boone's version sounds like shit. She ripped Kasey off by re-recording this and releasing it. He putrid father ripped black artists in the 50's like Little Richard for re-recording his music with P Boone's bland white bread crap. Two vile musical sows, the Boone daughter and father.
That’s because Kasey had a much better voice than Debby Boone!! I saw this movie when I was around 17, it wasn’t that great but I loved Didi and the song.

I agree...the entire You Light Up My Life album is classic! My mom would play it on her turntable all the time while I was merely 4 or 5. So it's ingrained in me. Joe Brooks composed and produced most of it. Yeah he had sexual impulses that were inappropriate, but it was the 70s...when "free love and experimentation" reigned mostly guilt free and Aids free. No excuse...I believe most super talented and creative people suffer from social ineptitude and different of mental illness. RIP Joe..your music is timeless

Here's a rare opportunity. It's not right to judge how how good a song is until you hear it sung by a singer doing it full justice.
