This is such a great and well thought out video; I absolutely love dancehall and I always ask myself why it hasn’t reached the mainstream like reggaeton. Pretty much answers all my questions about why my favorite dancehall artist hasn’t blown up to the mainstream even if he has one of the best beats I’ve ever heard
This is just an American view. Come to Europe, no one listens to Reggaeton unless you're Spanish. Reggae and Dancehall still influence and sell out shows here in Europe
Spanish is the #1 language through central and South America. The Mexican immigrants in the US also influence music here as well. So I hear your perspective but they got it rocking over here
Latinos never quit on Dancehall. Reggaeton came out of the carribean to latinos to the U.S. latinos to South America and Mexico. The other factor is the latin sounds that are fused with Dancehall make it relatable to the whole latinoamerica.
Reggaeton music is house parties, sweet 16s,graduation weddings back in the early 2000s really hit!!

I don't think it was stifled, it seems like it was abandoned. While Puerto Ricans kept bringing variations to keep the drum pattern fresh.
