Hello my friend Donnie Law. In Native American culture, our Story Tellers are held in high regard. They tell the story so they are not forgotten. The stories are what keeps our culture alive, and they honor those who have taken the Journey before us. You are a great storyteller Donnie, and this I tell you from my heart. You are an honor to the people of the Appalachians.
    Blessings my friend,
    George

That was beautiful to say Donnie. I happen to have Native American Indian blood on my Father's side. His Grand Mother (his Mother's Mother) was Full Blood Native American. Yes, my Great, Grand Mother was Full Blooded Native American. I couldn't be more proud of anything else in my whole life than to know that. I keep her way, deep down in my Heart, always. I wish I could have been alive to know her and be part of her physical life. I wish the White man hadn't come along and change what my future should have been had they not come and "ruin" it for future Generations of Native Americans.

George, thanks for keeping our culture alive. I'm Eastern Band Cherokee on my mother's side. I look quite European. Our names were changed, and we accepted it. Will Rogers was a Cherokee from the Trail of Tears, born in Oklahoma, as was my second cousin. Be blessed, my brother.

My town is one of the oldest settlements in NC. Sherman came through here because of the numerous textile plants in the county that had converted to making uniforms for the confederate army during the time and the nearby river was a source of transporting goods from Charleston up into the Carolina for the south. There are a couple of old haunted historic houses in the county that date back to the late 1700's and early 1800's. One of these still has bullet holes preserved from a battle that occurred on the grounds. One particular house in town is said to be haunted by a confederate soldier who was brought to the house for medical attention as this was a doctors house at the time. Well the soldier died from his injuries in one of the upstairs bedrooms. As years went on, the house was restored and listed on the National registry of historic places. Just prior to that though it was used by a local bank. Workers in the bank would often hear footsteps upstairs and catch a glimpse of a man walking at the top floor balcony. They couldn't keep help because of fearful workers. When the bank closed the city bought the place and restored it. I had a friend who wasn't from here who lived here for a spell back in the 1990's. He took a job working for the local paper. He joined the historical society and they allowed him to live in the house as a grounds keeper and he would be required to watch the place. One day he told me at a party I attended that he had seen the old soldier many times walking the hall upstairs and out on the balcony. He managed to snap a photo of the apparition that looked like a hazy mist in the hall one evening. He posted it and the story in the local paper and it got allot of attention. To this day, that house is said to be haunted and it has 24 hour video security now and a grounds keeper that lives in a mobile trailer on the back of the property. I've heard stories that the cameras and motion sensors will occasionally go off and send an alarm to the police who never find anything wen they get there. There is allot of spooks and ghouls out there in these small southern towns. Lots of history too. Thank you again Donnie for such a wonderful old story.

Your narration really captures the tragedy of this story. Those poor little boys just wanted to go on an adventure and should not have been subjected to such senseless violence. War is such a sad waste. I wonder where we would be as a society if we could have embraced peace and kindness to all instead of greed and violence. There is much to be learned from these ghost tales. The energy still hangs there believe me. Had an encounter with a Marine buddy with me years ago I will never forget. Another thing, I don’t remember which shop it was in town but it was like an antique store next to a diner. Anyway, I wandered into the basement section and even tho it was just me I couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched. It wasn’t a good feeling either more of a get out type vibe. I started to feel very cloudy headed almost sick feeling and decided to take the cue and leave. I learned later on that some people more sensitive to these things have trouble there too

There is a lot of emotion from the past still at these battlefields especially Gettysburg. My Great Great Grandfather and Uncles fought with the 28th Virginia Infantry under Garnett and were captured at Pickett's charge at the wall. Walking that ground is powerful and knowing what both sides went through is deeply humbling. Are there imprints left behind to haunt us of that war? You better believe it.

Very cool story Donnie! There is a similar story here in Georgia concerning a bridge and a returning soldier. (The road is still used and got a new bridge, but they say you can see him by the remains of the old one!) Putting it in East Tennessee however gives it a twist. Many folks these days don't know that Tennessee was a true border state. As such, even though it seceded from the Union, over 31,000 such boys went to the Union side instead of the Confederacy! The majority of these Union boys came from the Eastern Tennessee region, so there were literally neighbors who could have had sons who went entirely different ways. I wonder perhaps if the Union soldiers who killed this poor lad were actually from the area! I wonder what they thought when they found that it was an old friend or did they never even look? Just another Reb to get rid of! Gives this old ghost story a whole new meaning doesn't it!
