Had my S for a year now. Lives on my 11.5. I didn't buy it thinking it was the quietest or lightest, i bought it because its durability. People get so worked up about how quiet it is but in reality 556 will never be quiet because its a round that is always going to be supersonic. I can see why people wouldn't like it cause its "HeAvY" but that is a mute point for me.
Exaclty.... I want to put out info so that people don't buy it expecting it to have great suppression compared to other cans. Its about durability and versatility.
Sandman s as my first can. Have had it for 3 years now, many thousands of rounds through it. If I’m being honest I would recommend most other 30 cal cans over it. The lahar 30 for example straight up stomps it for half the cost. Sounds better, reduces flash a ton better, and has a versatility in mounting options. I straight up replaced the Sandy s on my 11.5 with a polonium k that performs better in every single aspect by a significant margin, with the possible exception of long term durability. And the sandman K is an absolute joke, I have videos of it spitting out bigger fireballs than another buddy of mine who was running a 10.5 with a Lantac dragon muzzle brake on his rifle. TLDR I don’t hate the sandman s, it’s decent. I just wouldn’t recommend it over plenty of other options currently on the market today (polo k, absuppressors have a bunch of great cans in the same space, lahar 30 s, the PWS cans, and many more
I just don't understand buying a .30 cal can to specifically live on a 5.56. Why not just get a better, lighter 5.56 can? Then buy a .30cal can for other guns.
When shooting suppressed, I noticed a big difference when I switched from my BCM upper to a PWS upper. Now I have a bunch of piston uppers. They’ve made a world of difference in shooting suppressed.
The Sandman S is my first suppressor. Just got the tax stamp for it last week after a 4 1/2 month wait. I sort of chose it spur of the moment while buying a 300BLK pistol. While waiting for the tax stamp, I started watching/reading reviews and thought I may have made a mistake, but after taking it to the range last weekend I'm happy with it. Being my first can, I wasn't after the quietest or lightest, just one that was durable and easily interchangeable between firearms. I tried running subs through my (non-adjustable gas block) 300BLK while waiting for the can and they wouldn't feed, so I knew it needed some back-pressure. I took it to the range with the S and it ran all subs and supers fine. It is plenty quiet to my ears. The supers were gassy, but I'll likely shoot mostly subs through it so that is fine. Plus, I can swap it onto my AR-10, which does have an adjustable gas block, so that'll mitigate some of the gassiness. I think if you're planning on getting just one can that you can swap between guns, it's a great choice, as it will stand up to the more powerful rounds. As for carbon lock, I'm pretty anal about cleaning, so I don't think that should be an issue for me. That said, if/when I buy another can it will be more directed to a particular round/rifle.
My first suppressor was the Dead Air Sierra-5, I have it on my 10.3 sbr. Bought a sandman 5 to throw on my ar10 and swap around if id like to a few other rifles.. Very recently i purchased the huxwrx 556k for a mk18 build im doing. Let mse ay that the flow-through technology makes a WORLD of difference. I get almost no gas by face its actually unbelievable. For any sbrs i use now My go to will be the huxwrx.
Sierra-5(or polonium) on a non-adjustable 10.3 is brutal to your lungs and shoulder.(Compared to the usual 5.56). High backpressure is never fun on non-adjustable SBRs.
I have the S,K, and sierra 5. I prefer the K overall. To my ears that have been abused by loud music and machines 😄 I can’t tell the difference in sound between the three.
Have a 16” SOLGW with k and ebrake plus 5.56 fh end cap. Not a bad set up at all. Within the threshold of pain for no ear pro outdoors but I keep ear pro on
I use the k with e brake and flash cap on a 13.9, quiet enough so I don’t blow my ear drums in tight spaces or my friends hearing ,flash suppression, a little gassy but hey that’s reliability in dirty environments
You have to spend a little time cleaning the Keymo device and suppressor when cleaning your host rifle. I have had mine since 2016 and I have had to replace the locking system due to worn locking mechanism but It was covered by dead air. I didn’t send it in, I just emailed and received the parts in a couple days later
I have a sandman s and I’m happy I have it. That being said in 2024 there’s way better options on the market. The sandman is a weird sweet spot where it’s not great at any specific performance category. There’s cheaper lighter quieter and less back pressure cans on the market these days.
The Sandman K is disappointing for total sound reduction. But in SHTF I can only take one I’ll probably still grab the K just because it’s so versatile caliber and use case wise. It can take major abuse. Works well in tight spaces. The concussion reduction is significant over non suppressed. Durability to weight ratio is good. For everyday use it works well on my 18” 6.5 Grendel AR which I use for hunting. I can shoot it without ear pro with zero discomfort.

I would never buy again the DA SANDMAN L just because the Nomad is way better, but i have to say they are tanks
I was considering the Sandman S, and your video definitely provided a lot of insight. I'm planning to put it on my gassy 5.5-inch Rattler in 300 BLK, both super and subsonic rounds, as well as on some >11 inch556 rifle. Do you have any recommendations? I mainly use the KeyMicro muzzle brake
I have a Radian Model 1 p&w dead air keymo so I don’t really got a choice other than the sandman s. Looking forward to eventually getting one even though it has some drawbacks
There are some other companies that will accept the Keymo 1 3/8x24 adapter… cgs helios qd for example as well as some Silencer co designed. You can also break the weld and swap the muzzle device and re/pin weld. Also, the nomad 30 runs like a champ and is significantly quieter on the guns I used and has less back pressure. BUT if you crave ultimate durability, sandman is where it’s at.
WHEN did SBRs become a thing? You take a small round 5.56 with too fast twist rate (1:7) and put it in short barrel, not a good move. The rage just a few years ago was the caliber is too anemic, made worse by SBR lengths.
for the 5,000 rounds you claim to have thru your sandman, the rachet still sounds like new! Usually after 1,000 rounds or so the rachet noise, feel loosens up quit a bit. And bud that's not carbon lock when you put a suppressor on, don't shoot it, and take it off and it hung up on you, you just didn't have it lined up properly!
I have a little over 3k through my sandman s and the ratchet hasn't become any weaker. After the 3k rounds I started EWL grease in the spots on the detent ring that dead air suggests it's almost like if you maintain it, it's going to treat you well. I have a sandman s, a mask HD, and an odessa-9, and once they work out the Sierra 5,i will get one of those as well
@@defconcreativesorry, was binging a ton of videos I think I put this under the wrong one like a dumbass. Trying to compare this to a surefire RC2 for my SCAR. I’ve got a few cans all of them are dead air and I want a “duty” can. Been doing a ton of research on pew science and others. But while I have you here, why would you put a .30 on a 5.56 instead of a dedicated 5.56? Thanks for the response, great video. Sorry for being stupid lmao.
Save yourself almost 8 minutes. No- unless you send it off to ECCO for the HUB conversion. Great cans but being locked into keymo is a thing of the past.
Show me a better made suppressor that does the same thing and can hold up to the sandman. It's funny how people bitch about gas in my face or coming back then don't shoot get a sqwirt gun.

Sandman K on a 300blk, with subs. Great, short bag, truck, close quarters package!

piston guns definitely make a difference
