Did you have any experience in the IT field when you took your classes? I'm going for the general IT degree, and I don't have any IT experience. I'm starting the WGU Academy A+ cert in Jan.

When I started WGU, I was 1 year into doing helpdesk with the A+ and Network+ already in the bag. The A+ was the cert that helped me get into helpdesk. WGU helped me advance within the same company and got promoted to Systems Admin. I also went from 40k to six figures, getting my WGU definitely helped me get those promotions. The MBA is now helping me move into a management role.

@@UltratecJS wow that's awesome and great news. I started thinking maybe I was wasting my time and this wouldn't be worth it. But it sounds like this is gonna be awesome for me!
I am starting from scratch though. My job is not IT related, however they have offered to let me start doing work in the IT dept doing help desk stuff. So that should be good for me!

@@timothygreer2400 You are definitely not wasting your time. I see many IT Gurus recommend skipping college and going directly for certs, but from my personal experience, you need a combination of college and IT Certs to make it. Wgu provides both of those things. Even just having a Bachelor in Science qualifies you for tons of goverment jobs as well.
I used to mow lawns with the family business and if I can do it, so can you man. When you have a shot at doing the helpdesk, make sure you document everything that you are taught by the more experienced IT people. I used to document step by step how to do anything I was taught and never had to ask twice on how to do things. Little stuff like that makes the difference so you are successful. Good luck in your journey, it's not easy but it's worth it and the pain of studying does not last forever!

@@UltratecJS yeah, I hear people say all the time "you don't need a degree", but I know too many people that are stuck where they're at without a degree.
Thanks, man I appreciate that! I will take your advice and notate as much as possible.

@@timothygreer2400 Yeah it is really rare getting far without a degree nowadays. I think most people that say grew up in a time where IT companies weren't looking for degrees, certifications, and just wanted to see if you knew your stuff and how passionate you were. Now there is ton of gatekeeping by HR. Need Bachelor's, tons of certs, and experience. Main reason I'm getting my Bachelor's was because I never got a response back while I had my Associate's degree but had experience and a a few certs but that wasn't enough. Just putting I'm getting a Bachelor's in progress on my resume has got me way more callbacks or phone screens than just having Associates degree. Can't wait to get my Bachelor's and Master degrees I'm planning to shoot for. Want at least a Master and a MBA as well. CIO, CISO roles look real interesting to me the more I study. At first I thought they were boring roles but the more I study and work and see how upper management acts I think "Man I'd do a way better job."

Don’t like that WGU proctors exams; very uncomfortable.

I didn't mind them, they are less stressful than regular college. Everyone is different, so it will depend on your style.
